The artwork is actually based off of 1950's Fashion Illustrations.
I actually attended a Fashion School and took many fashion illustration classes,
and IMHO, these are pretty spot on.

I, personally, think they did a great job on this set.

Do some of the princesses have hair that is maybe a little wonky? Sure, huge beehives were all the rage in the 50's!
Are the faces very simplified, and their necks a little long for their bodies? Absolutely, such is the style of fashion illustrations.

But, I can see why perhaps that is a bit off putting for others who want a very princessy princess, & do hope that this fact will drive the price down so everyone can get what they want in the end :)

I bought this set the day after it came out for $345...and I don't regret it at all. Maybe I'm crazy, but $34.50 for a LE 150 pin that is fairly sought after dosen't seem THAT bad to me...but I do think $500 is a little insane. I love the whole "designer sketch" look of the pins and the unique outfits. And I really love the fact that they did something DIFFERENT...I have seriously not wanted a set this bad since I started collecting in late 2008. Ten Princesses...pretty outfits...glitter...fancy box instead of ziplock baggies...I love it all! LOL Also...I wanted this set mint in box and with so many people breaking up sets I wanted to make sure I got one early.

Do I think they could have done better with the art and styling? Yes...I always do. They don't put out pins like the Disney Auction days anymore. But I think this set is pretty darn awesome...and I hope Disney continues to do more unique offerings like this. :)

As far as value...I think it is too early to tell. I happen to love this set and some of you aren't very excited by it. So I guess it will depend on the trade/want ratios and eBay auctions in the future.

I don't know, but I really wish people would stop panic-buying the sets so they'll come back down to that $300-350 range. $500 is ridiculous.

How does a range of $800-$1200 sound then? LOL! It is plain crazy, but I am loving it!!

My prayers are answered, this set is right up there with DA Tink as Princesses set. I would love to own that one, or rather that set would own me  But, one can only dream!
