Given the opportunity, it seems that people will take anything not nailed down. Now, this is not a new occurence, but with this hobby reaching new heights with some values of pins, it is definitely something that may occur more rather than less. The vast majority of pin traders are honest and wonderful people, but there are always bad apples in any large group, and this group is growing by leaps and bounds. I've never been near a park, but this has also happened in the past on the internet as well. Having it happen to me once in a big way, it led me to change my trading habits slightly, not going for huge deals as a first deal with anyone, as I lost 30+ pins that time and though the person was eventually caught and some goods recovered, being in a different country I had no recourse to recover anything myself and didn't even find out they had been caught until much later, beyond any recovery time period. I put it down to lesson learned, and began trading in smaller batches to start with, if trading with new people whose references were too few to check on.

As for live events, I began by trading Olympic pins at the Olympics and yes, things disappeared all the time from unattended tables, so it was always a good idea to go with someone you know and trust and have one of you paying attention at all times. Pins are very small in general and easy to palm and later slip into a pocket. It almost tempts you to slap someone who you suspect on that pocket and see if you get jabbed in the hand or it they react as if stuck, lol. Can't touch people is the problem with that now. :P The only true way to protect your pins at any event would be to have them under glass in a showcase that only you can open, or should open, but that's just not feasible for most, so it's just something you really have to watch and develop a rapport with those around you so that everyone can try to keep an eye out for anyone who seems to be looking for an opportunity to approach an unattended pin book or board. Might need to add a "suggestion" area to my OP telling people ways to prevent theft or at least make a thief think twice before trying for your pins...

I Would really appreciate a PM from those who know for certain that someone is a thief. I won't go blabbing it about, i promise. But for my little file of info, I would really like the information. And if enough people come forward missing pins that this person happens to suddenly own... maybe we can make a case for the police or disney security?

It can be removed from the pin book or opened only by the owner. It will hold twelve two inch pins off there cards or ten two inch pins left on their cards. People will have to remove PDMs off their cards as they would take up too much room if you wanted to put a lot of them in the same case. As far as the "suspect"...there was a guy at DSF a few weeks back that removed a couple of pins from my book as I was talking with someone else. I kept glancing over casually at my book as he was doing this. He set them on the side of my book on the table where we were all looking at pin books. When someone else came up to talk to him I stopped my conversation, grabed my pins and put them back in my book. When I was ready to leave I asked him if there was anything he was interested in, he said no. So I picked up my book and walked away. I don't know his name but I would recognize him if I saw again. Next time I see him I will set him up and see if he takes the bait. If he's a theif he'll bite. I have seen him a various pin events including most DSF releases. I just avoid him now. But maybe I will go out of my way next time to find him. :)

Hi--i never saw you on here before but may i say YOU ARE A GENIUS! i love your idea. i am interested. and i love your keen eye and i hope you do set some bait and make sure a few people are "in" on it with you so you have witnesses and you are safe. xo
