Hi guys there has been too many sad faces around lately. I belong to many forums but it is DPF I come back too because of how amazing and like a family it is. I think the spurt of dramas is only a tiny bit and shouldnt obscure the fact that the people on here are amazing, generous and kind. All you have to do is look at other sections of the forum to see it ^_^ For example Fireheadfred Has a thread on anything goes sharing daily kind messages for everyone and Psycho pixie has been going crazy with zaps in 2013 and hold auctions and everything to stock up her zapping supplies and people have donated. Thats pretty awesome

So I thought maybe we could share some stories that have made us smile or flat out knocked us on our backs bacause of disney pins and this forum

I will start, please someone post after me so I dont look like a muppet xD

I am really new to pin trading, take a look at my signup date thats when I started but instantly the people here where really welcoming and kind. I have so many stories I will only share a few or we will be here all day ^_^ Sorapandora zapped me an awesome Hades (69877) on my first day being here! Ashkai didnt see anything on my trades for a pin I wanted (11521) so she zapped me with it! then before she could post asked if I was looking for 92511 which I most certainly was and when I offered to trade for it she zapped me with it too. Fireheadfred sent me a production art hercules piece for the secret valentines which I'm pretty sure I will be clutching on my death bed. And its not all about zaps, I would like to think of many of you as friends and I have been lucky enough to meet some of you in person. I have had such kind words given to me despite the fact I bounce everywhere screaming Hercules. Even kind words have to be thought about and typed, so I thank every single one of you for the happiness the forum brings. So take a look at the zaps thread, the grail down threads, the trading threads, look at all the happy faces and thats what I like to think of DPF as.

So yeah, please post xD

I think DPF is really great!!! I am so grateful for all of the advice I get here and I never feel embarrassed to ask a question. I have gotten so many pins at below cost and it has been a wonderful way to build my collection. My kids get so excited when the mail comes and there's a puffy little envelope! Not to mention the 2 zaps I received from Jadestar! I am about a 10 hour drive away from WDW so I can't go as often as I would like but this forum helps me enjoy this hobby/obsession all year! Thanks for making this a safe place to hang out and learn about pins!

I can spread the love , and share some story.

Ok , I pass most of the time here, i am here even i go the bathroom ( With my cell)LOL. I really like take part of this community. I am from far away, and i think i am the only one in my land here. I enjoy so much the news, the pin showroom with everyone collections, the dolls threads, and the kind and funnies threads on here. I wish i can meeting some day all of you.
I wish all of you a good day , and sending huges!!

I haven't been on long and don't have any experience of zapping or anything but you've all made me very welcome :3

i love this forum, we both do! were always on it wether it be our phones or our computers, We love going on chat and talking to our friends, the kindness of Zaps and the generosity of this community is incredible! the support and love makes me joyful beyond all reason. seeing people's collection and there love for disney. seeing everyone with different interests and favourite characters, learning more about pins and becoming a greater part of the love. i hope this continues and the drama is left in the past <3 <3 because we are one big family. and no matter if we fight we all love each other

Yay, I am glad you feel welcome here. If you have not given your name and address to tiggermickey yet, you should do so. You can't be zapped if we don't have your address.

Welcome, I know it can be scary, but jump right in. I found out the hard way, watching from the outside doesn't do much. The more you put into the community the more you will get back!!!

Have fun!!!

David

I like coming on here. I've been able to learn a lot about pin trading and buying. I've made two official trades now - TiggerMickey and Catz! I've bought a ton of pins for below cost or near cost - big YAY to Jadestarr and many others! I've never met any of you in person, but we are having a pin meet in Phoenix this month, so that'll change! And, I am coming to DLR in May, so I may meet more of you then! I joined the Weight Loss Challenge and that has made me feel more involved. I would LOVE to have access to better pins, but it can't be helped that I don't live by DSF and the parks. So, instead of focusing on what I can't have, I just take the time to look at all I've amassed in a little over a year! So many sparkly Belle pins!!! It's become a habit, coming here every day to see what is going on!

I've not been here long, so have not experienced a zap yet. But everyone has been so friendly and helpful to me. Even when I was having a rant about my missing pin. So thanks

Hey David! Thanks!!! Just has my address as we're trading pins atm!
How do you zap things? (And what technically is a zap?) *newbie*

Jaxy- Zapping is sending someone a pin (usually from there wants list) without want of anything back. simply to make there day brighter

I love DPF! I am a complete addict. I have to sit on my hands sometimes so I don't pick up my phone to read the boards 15 minutes after I closed down the lap top!
There are so many people that have been generous and kind to me here, I wouldn't even know where to begin thanking people. For a long time I just sat back and read, but I am trying to participate more. I want to say thank you to everyone on here I have traded with, bought from or just had a fun conversation!
I'm a huge Beatles fan...and I think this thread calls for some John and Paul in epic hippie outfits

I could not have said this better myself!!!

Many of you have heard this before from me, so those that have just ignore it.

When it comes to zapping, it is not important what you zap, just that you zap!!!

Most of my favorite zaps are things that people have made me. It means a lot to me that somebody thinks enough of me to take time out of their busy lives to make me something and then send it to me. Now don't get me wrong, I still love pin zaps also, but the crafty things I treasure more because they are personal.

Time for my stories, Amy (my loving wife) and I try to come down to Disneyland in California at least once a year. I bring a pin book with me and spend most of my time pin trading with other guests. I always bring down at least 1000 pins and usually trade at least half of them while we are there. I don't have a bunch of top end pins, just pins that I think people will like. Most of the hardcore traders down there don't usually trade a lot with me since I don't have the high end stuff, but the other guests sure do like trading with me because I have older pins. (Last year was the exception, seems like everybody wanted to trade with me, but last year I had a bunch of stuff from overseas thanks to great friends I have made over there).

The last 2 years we have traded with a very nice couple. Kristine and Tom (Psycho Pixie and Phoenix) of course this was before I realized who they were on here. To us they were just 2 really nice people who always traded Tink's with my wife. Kristine always made sure to trade whatever Amy wanted. They didn't know us from any other guests, we were just 2 out of towners there for a few days and we were gone, but they were just really kind!!! So fast forward to May of last year and I get involved here with the trade auctions (thanx Mahrii) and all of a sudden I realize who Psycho Pixie is, it is Kristine, the really nice lady that always made sure to trade with Amy. I can't tell you how grateful we are to them. They have made a huge impression on us and they had no idea on how big of a one they made, they were just being the nice people that they are!!! So now every chance I get, I try to be sure they know how thankful we are to know them and return the kindness they showed us.

I have one more story and it is how I became a zapping fool. Last October, I became a victim of Romancing_Train's RAK(random act of kindness). For those who do not know what that is here is a quick recap. It is where a group of people volunteer to send pins, drawings, kind notes and anything else people can think of to 1 "victim" and surprise them. I received some amazing pins and other goodies, but the things I treasure the most and still have on my desk are some great drawings people made for me. I could not believe that people would be so kind to somebody most of them had never met or even traded with. It truly changed my life. Ever since then I have been trying to give others that amazing feeling I received by zapping people. We got some money last Christmas time that was unexpected so I was able to get a lot of people's grails they listed on their signatures. I zapped people that I had traded with in the past that I enjoyed trading with. I also zapped people I noticed on the forum that I had not traded with. People who were posting a lot or that had nice words to say to people. It is amazing to me how many people I have zapped have said that when they received the zap they were having a terrible time and that it brightened up their day. That happened to me a few weeks ago myself when I was having a hard time at work. It is so wonderful to receive a little piece of metal or a card with a picture on it just to know that somebody out there cares that you are there.

So now we have gone all the way back around, to my previous statements, just remember to make somebodies day better and zap people.

This is an amazing place with wonderful people who are very generous.

If you are new here, jump in with both feet!!! The more you get involved the more you get out of it.

For all of the people who have experience drama here lately, I wish it didn't happen, but every family has it's crazy cousin or uptight uncle, but for me this has been a place of wonder that I truly value. I hope everybody has a similar experience!!!

Wonderful thread.

I love DPF. Occasional drama aside, this is a very warm and caring place.

Last May I got my first pin. While on a DCL cruise I bought some mystery pins for my niece and nephew. We opened them up to try to complete a set for each of them, and ended up making a couple of trades to complete the sets. Along the way I traded for an Ezra pin that caught my eye. When I got home I started searching online to find the other 2 ghosts and I discovered Pinpics and DPF (I also discovered that my Ezra was a scrapper...lol). If I hadn't found DPF I wouldn't have become addicted to pins...the two go hand-in-hand for me...so when I lose my house because of pin-debt, you're all to blame!

I was in a pretty bad place for a while. I've been on medical disability for the past 1 1/2 years, and only recently have I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. A lot of things have contributed to that start, but DPF and pin-trading are definitely significant parts of it.

Sure there's drama here, but it's usually caused by someone interpreting a general comment as a personal slight, and sometimes it spirals out of control. That type of thing will happen in any community, especially when you can't see and hear the other person.

I'll never meet most of you in person (especially you Cali folk), but I do like and respect a lot of people here, and I hope we can all trade sometime.

Oh oh! Bumping this up because everyone needs to see this!

There are so many people on this website who have been tremendously kind to me...I can't even put into words how welcomed I feel on this website. It really, really feels like a giant family to me. I used to collect Sailor Moon pretty hard core, and let's just say sometimes the fandom could get really catty. I had "close friends" cheat me out of items, even if they didn't collect the sub-group, JUST so I couldn't have it. It was all about who's collection was bigger, better, and cost more. Of course, this didn't apply to some collectors (those of whom I keep in contact with and am friends with), but for the most part it wasn't too pleasant. I also collect Monster High dolls, which can get really stupid too. I just didn't understand.

When I first came on to DPF, I used it solely for the "Other" collectibles group. I felt comfortable with the dolls, because that is what I always collected. I had a few pins, but I wasn't really aware of all that was out there. I didn't try to get any new pins, didn't really participate in conversations, and was just plain alarmed by the prices of pins in the sales forum (little naive me thought that all pins were park prices!! Ha!). But then, it happened. The Disney Store released...the 5 pin Brave set.

Utter panic set in. That was it. The pin set that I really, really wanted. I had been waiting all of my non-collecting life for it. But before I could buy it...it sold out. Desperately, I posted my first wanted thread asking for JUST the Elinor, because that was the one I really wanted. But with no feedback, I think people were afraid of me! Lol. One day, a little package came to my door. I opened it up to see...the Elinor! With tears in my eyes I read the note telling me that it was a "Zap". At the time I was thinking, "what the heck is a zap?" and messaged the sender with hugeeee thank yous and a question. The sender was so kind and patient in describing the concept of zapping to me. He also offered his assistance in any other questions I had in relation to pin trading! This was extremely helpful at the time, because I was so confused about all these terms (DSF? DLRP? What language is this?!?!).

So basically...a huge, gigantic thank you to David, (docfish2u) for being super awesome to me and essentially dragging me down into the depths of h-e-double hockey sticks...I mean pin trading! This level of kindness was completely unexperienced for me in other trading communities. This warm, fuzzy feeling did not seem to exist.

Soon after this, I started contributing more to conversations. I frequented every part of the forum, and began to see more and more examples of extreme kindness, understanding, helpfulness, and generosity that all members here put forth.

And I still see this today, even though sometimes the drama sits next to it like some kind of piece of stinky garbage, waiting to be thrown out. This is why I frequent DPF every single day, for hours sometimes. I love talking to people, I love seeing people find grails, I love watching people open packages and getting excited, I love planning meeting with people, I just love everything!! So stop hating and start loving each other, because DPF is cool! <3
