I went to DLR this last weekend for the Sci-Fi Academy release of the Piece of Alderaan History pin and the various Alumni poster pins. I only bought 4 pins in the morning and had a friend with me that did not register. They let me get 2 pins signed and they let my friend get 2 of my pins signed so I got all 4 pins signed at the signing.

Well, after walking around I decided I really wanted the other poster pins. I originally bought the Donald Autopia and Mickey Astrojets poster/pins but wanted to complete the set. So I stroll back to the store about 1pm to get the other two (Chip & Dale Rocket to the Moon and Pluto's Flying Saucers) and my buddy was going to buy two more Alderaan pins. I also ended up buying the last Sci-Fi Academy lanyard in the case!

Ok, fast forward 2 hours to about 3pm. I get off Pirates and who do I run into? Casy Jones the artist and pin signer from earlier that day. I flag him down and chat for a minute and mention I bought more pins. He was so nice, pulled out a sharpie and he signed every single pin I had so I have a total of 8 signed Sci-Fi pins!!! I was planning sell/trade the extra two Alderaan pins but I was stoked to get my complete Alumni Poster set signed!

I can't wait for August 6th when Chris Chapman comes and he can sign my new lanyard and a few other Sci-Fi Academy pins.
 
Am I the only one that would prefer my pins not to be signed?

I truly appreciate the artists' work, but I'd rather have the pin in its original form. I guess it's similar to why some people prefer regular pins over AP/PP.

I think it would be cool to have them sign the backer card or something (do they do that?), but not the pin itself.

The way I see it, it's kinda like getting your bottle of wine signed by the Wine Vintner. It's kinda cool, makes for a good conversation piece, and doesn't do much to the value. It's just something "special" that when you receive a pin you can say "oh that's neat," but it wouldn't sway me into paying/trading more for the pin.
 
Artist signing

Years ago (maybe 2003 or earlier) I was walking thru Epcot World Showcase during Food & Wine celebration. There signing (or ready to sign) event posters- he wasn't too busy, was Randy Noble. I really liked his pin designs, and I had my pin book w me. He had the Sharpie, and was very kind to sign a bunch of my pins, since I was the only one there 🙂 I loved it
