Actually it's consistently (and only) referred to in the book as "it". Never as a him OR a her. :cheshire:

I beg to differ with your comment that the Cheshire Cat is portrayed as a girl in the book. That is so untrue. Chessie was portrayed as a girl in the 1999 film adaptation of the story and that was the only time. In the book the Cheshire Cat is most definitely a male character and the famous John Tenniel artist portrayed the Cat with more male characteristics and Louis Carroll himself referred to the cat as male. Not sure where you got your info but you really should check more carefully. If you have some documentation I'd love to see it. I have two original manuscripts of Alice in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass as well as several other versions.
