Ugh - DSF Beloved Tales Release

This is true for pins since they did go for significantly less a long time ago but it only perpetuates the vicious cycle but I guess that will never end (pins getting higher in price years down the road). At least with DS.com and DA though, they were online stores and were thus open to anyone and everyone, not just those located in a specific location so this wasn't really a problem back then

The surprise releases tend to be highly sought after pins and DSF only makes surprise releases highly sought afters pin because they don't want everyone to get 2 of the most wanted pin. This has happened with King Candy who was a lower LE size, Tangled BT and China Girl (both pins that are naturally popular on their own) but when you look at a case of a pin that isn't as popular, like the Tango Jessica pin just released, you can see that just because it is 1 per person doesn't mean it will automatically go for more. The Paso Doble Jessica pin goes for around $40 while the Tango goes for around $65 and it is close to double the size of the Paso Doble pin, so clearly one per person doesn't make it increase in price, I'm willing to bet if the Tango Jessica pin was the same size as the Paso Doble, it might even go for less and it is still the surprise pin. :eek2:

The Tango pin is 2x the size of the Paso Doble pin (like literally size lol in inches, not edition size but phyiscal measurements) so it is much higher quality and is a much nicer pin (imo) from the start. I think it would be unfair if 2 pins that looked the same but one was jumbo and the other was a normal rack size went for the same price
 

We started pin trading last year, so we have no way to get DA pins now as they are no longer available so if we want ANY of them that HTF we have to trade pins that we could get now that are valued that much. Either way a release in Paris is only 'helpful' for Paris folks and a release in WDW is only helpful for wdw people. There will always be unfairness due to distance everywhere. This isn't the issue. The issue is whether, due to popularity and nothing else, we should limit the purchases, which we think is unfair as it'll limit our trading since we collect this series. If someone didnt collect the series, they could care less as their set would be harder to get (as a lot will go straight to collections and in the hands of of people with multiple family members that collect or 'employees') so they can trade for even better pins.

We personally cannot wait for Tangled Pin Trading Night to release in WDW and Dreams for Paris folks as already these are going to be hard for people that collect tangled, much less to get them as traders. As much as these will be valued, and they are going to be highly valued, we do not see it as the same value as others will.

That LE size comment was meant for that, Paso Doble is a beautiful pin but Tango, a surprise and same LE size, is still 'worth' more than Paso Doble.
 

Even if they were the same size, the Tango would still go for more since it was the surprise pin and only one per person which means people are less likely to give it up for trade, in turn making it a harder trader and also making it more valuable.

And the Paso Doble has sold as high as $50 alone (BTW, Ebay doesn't have any records of the Tango going for $100, $80 highest) so 2x-4x the price because it is a surprise...not so sure about that. Also, you have to factor in the fact that the Tango pin is SOOO big so by itself, even if it wasn't a surprise it should sell more than any of the other ones right off the bat!


While it will limit your trading, I believe it will allow more people everywhere to get a set without having to trade something they truly like. Also, the pins that are going straight into the hands of multiple family members and employees are still going there now, they're just getting double the amount they would if it were 1 per person so that isn't really a point against 1 per person

lol with everyone saying this I'm starting to think I might be wrong haha but from the pictures I have seen at least, the Jessica Tango pin is about double the size of the Paso Doble in width, double the Waltz in height, and a bit bigger than the Swing which has a giant gap in the middle and the Tango is JUST Jessica, no Roger taking up half the pin lol

That is what this topic is about, there is no way to prove that just because it is a surprise pin it goes for more. If anything, the Tango pin proves against it because despite the pin being so much bigger, it is only going for about 1.5x the price, which makes sense considering it is bigger.

With more people getting the pin, sure there are less for trade by the main Jessica collectors, but there are more in the hands of people who don't want her and thus are putting her all up on Ebay, hence why there are so many Tangos on Ebay and why she is gladly selling for only around $65 ^_^

The problem WE have with that is that it limits all other traders to trade. So yes say that said person with employees gets 5 sets instead of 10. Great, that limits his selling, only thing is that it limits all 1 person parties to either keep their set or trade their one set away. You think it'll make prices go down, but it'll make prices sky rocket, this is why some people ONLY stop by for surprise pins. [And that's when you see the shadiness of people hiring families walking along hollywood, homeless people or other pedestrians to wait in line so they can get more surprise pins, because they're only limited to ONE]. Since you're only allowed one, you think hard about trading it (as we did with our China girl). So say there are 10% resellers and the rest are going into sets or being traded away, good luck getting a more reasonable price for them as they control the market more now since more people are hesitant to trade them. Then there are the others that start selling their collection (which happened a lot since Beloved tales got popular, as we keep a watchful eye on ebay sales for BTs) simply because they want to jump into selling for such high prices.

While it may limit your traders and make you think long and hard about trading your pin, I don't think that correlates with a higher price in terms of sales. More people everywhere will have it that don't want it and will be willing to sell it anyways and if it does go into collections of people who wanted it from the start, better them than resellers who would charge that person $400 for a $40 set in the first place. It'll be harder to control the market in the end and there will be more competition with so many sellers out there as opposed to just a few who can currently control the market and charge outrageous prices for the sets since there are only a few begin sold >_<

I hope you aren't interpreting this as drama Me and PinHunters have been clear a few times that we aren't having an argument but just a discussion about why one policy might work better than the other. We can agree to disagree in the end and go along being friends which is exactly what I think will happen since until DSF does a 1 per person release, we can't really prove who is right or wrong lol ^_^ This is NOT meant to be drama at all, just a differing of opinions in a healthy discussion ^_^ sorry if you might think otherwise >_<

Yes! Kupo and us are friends here and we will continue to be friends, he has told us a couple of times when pins we want are being traded or sold here and we have likewise let him know about pins he wants. We just want to collect our set and if this is interpreted as drama, and dsf reads this, we might as well just take this conversation to PMs and erase our opinions on wanting another set to trade to complete our beloved tales series.
 

haha don't worry, the release I feel is too soon for DSF to change its policy. Unless they had it planned all along I feel because they'd have to consider the pros and cons from their perspective first before making a definite decision even if they read this right now. In terms of a worker at DSF, I can only see cons at 1 per person lol because of the longer lines and more time spent having to go through 300 people as opposed to 150 xD A trader or seller might view it differently, but as a DSF worker who isn't interested in pins, that's how I'd view it haha
 
Since they aren't doing wristbands (at least from what we know), I hope that DSF staff distributes numbered ticket so people can know if they are in the first 150 people. This will help avoid cutters or people filling in for someone. Imagine if you waited all that time and were 151...
 

That's a good idea actually. OMG if that happened and I was 151 I would seriously cry....
 
I'm sorry if I could help I would, I can't have the day off and I would love a set. if my friends are able to go and its not one set a person i'm buying it off them but if not i'm stuck in the same boat, presellers right now are really high because there are new pins and because thers a huge hype on bts so hopefully towards june we can all get a set for cheap.
 
I saw the pins today in the display case and they are so UGLY. They have no detail and the faces look really creepy. I think everyone should just stay at home in their nice warm beds and forget about these pins, they aren't worth the trouble :wat::roll:

There isn't even room for that many people. I'm 99% sure it's logistically impossible. 150 already goes from door on Hollywood blvd, down both sides of alley and curves around back alley behind jimmy kimmel. No way, Jose. Not gonna work....

Best case scenario would be line up Thursday after midnight "technically Friday". Once 150 are in line, hand out wristbands so no cutters. Worked for brave and everyone was chill and happy.
