Venting about weird TA request reply
I've found that most clerks (rightly or wrongly) will gig you for the 1/4" variation. I know on my last trip I got charged over 9 dollars to ship 2 pins to the UK, and that was the only possible criteria they could've applied.

If you use additional bubble wrap to the sides of the pin you can eliminate the variation.

Maybe the trader got the pin, that happened with the Merida chaser I got like 100 requests but I got her so I declined all of them. At least she said no and didn't just ignore you. We should have the right to back out of a trade at any time it's up to the persons discretion

+1000 ^^^^ this

I think you might have missed the point. THEY contacted HER. SHE accepted and THEY said no thanks. If they sent the request to many people and accepted a trade before her reply then they should have said so instead of saying no thanks. That is just poor manners.

What if you I offered you a drink and you said yes please and then I turned around and said no thanks?

No thanks is just not a proper response to a trade you asked for. Not you personally....the person requesting the trade.

Bryanag135, thank you for that good analogy of the drink offer. :)
i really appreciate it. I know pin trading can be a fine art of compromise and consideration. I feel like I got neither from that trader when I said "Yes, let's trade" to THEIR OFFER.
Thank you again for understanding this situation. I will now shut up about it

I think there's a problem with postal clerks not knowing/caring about cheaper shipping options. Using the USPS site's postage calculator, here are some sample rates for a "Large Envelope" to the U.K.: $2.90 (2 oz.), $3.75 (3 oz.), $4.60 (4 oz.), and $5.45 (5 oz.)

A few average pins in a bubble envelope with some bubble wrap should generally be under 3 oz. (maybe Judy's have a couple extra ounces of tape!...lol).

There are requirements that the envelope not be too rigid and not vary in thickness by more than 1/4", but you can address those issues by how you package the pins. I know that several people (including Catz here on DPF) have sent me pins recently as "Large Envelope" and they paid only $2.25 (to Canada).

Yes.. i pay VERY close attention when sending pins. If you inquire.. there are cheaper ways... Boxes however...i still get stuck paying a bit more than i like..

Sometimes when im in a hurry (like at work and being sneaky) I write quick notes, but I try to be polite, I know I am guilty of saying no thanks once or twice, but normally I try to say no thank you, mabey another time, or Thanks for the offer mabey next time, but when I have said no thanks it wasn't meant in a rude manner nor meant to be offensive.Im trying hard to respond to all offers these days but at work im always having to rush to not get caught lol, And mabey that person might have been in a hurry too trying to answer many and it was not to be taken offensivley, I do know that a little while back I was told no (not just no there was an explanation) to an offer he sent me and I was accepting, but then when I got upset about it, then I realized I was so out of line for getting upset, and went back and apologised to him, because when the request goes out it goes to many and mabey your trader already accepted with someone else who mabey replied sooner than you, try not to let the message you received bother you too much im sure it wasn't meant to be rude, you can always message the person especially since they are members here too, and let them know the response they sent was not professional or polite and you felt offended, im sure they would appreciate the feedback, after all were all friends here, im sorry you feel hurt by this and it teaches me to make sure even in a hurry to not write no thanks, seeing your side I realize it can be rude, I know i've only done it a couple times but I will make sure to not ever do it again. And I really hope it wasn't my reply, if so I hope you know I never mean't to hurt you, but crossing fingers its not me.

oh good. I know we had a slight miscommunication that was my fault but it didn't go down much like this. That's funny for you to have 2 miscommunications in one week. you must do a lot of tradeassists. Sorry i havent replied yet by the way i will soon.

No ma'am, not you either
i hear this person is famous for very terse emails. I'm sure he, yes a he-that's a far as I'll go, is oblivious to this thread. Again I'd like to put it to rest. Thank you to those who understand why I was "chapped". I am over it & will not let it spoil this hobby I've been enjoying since 1999. :)

I would have to reread that one a few times to figure it out, but whoever did it would certainly leave a skidmark on the underpants of their future requests. I get a ton of requests for LE stuff for really low end things. I think I need to take off the most commonly offered pins and just remember them for later and buy them cheap at a convention or something. I am not super interested in paying $2 to trade hidden mickey's via pinpics. Some people though I think have like 20 pins and just click every button every day in TA just to see what they get back. And in my experience, if they offer a HM or random rack pin or GWP pin for your HTF LE, no amount of dialogue requests in the comments section is going to turn the trade into something I'll be happy with.
