WDW WDW: Fairy Tails annual pin trading event Aug 9-10, 2019
BiS boards - there is WDI, DSF/DSSH, Paris, Shanghai, and I think Hong Kong. I pulled DSF, WDI, and Paris pins on my trips yesterday. The same caliber stuff was on the boards all day so getting through some of my regular line tabs first before doing that line in the afternoon.
 
The Best in Show board yesterday morning had WDI and DSSH. Yesterday afternoon it was all Shanghai, Paris, and a couple of DSSH meh pins. This morning it was more like APs of Parks pins, some PTN Paris pins, and scattered DSSH with a lot of Shanghai, HK, and Paris OEs.

Not me, but they totally faked me out near the end of the event.

I had no clue how they did the grand prizes, just knew they did them, and they randomly called my name over the intercom to come to registration. It ended up being because they'd screwed up my registration date so they had to piece together my package pickup on Thursday, and they never deconstructed my labeled pickup. "Don't you want your pins?" I could've just kept my mouth shut [I would never, but... the thought was tempting to my lizard brain (; ], but I hope those pins went over to the sales table and made someone very happy. If any of you got the mini jumbos or some mystery boxes past 3PM today, they were probably my original ones! I hope they went back out to the event goers instead of in a box somewhere.

My husband won several years ago in 2015- he got the e ticket jumbo small world, the mansion o pin house mini trade book, frozen Paris door jumbo, some crazy huge transatlantic cruise pin, the chip fossee cars hood set. Some AP others weren’t. I kept my grail (the e ticket small world) and the frozen door the rest we traded to people it meant more to. We’ve never been picked for anything before or since in our 11 years of attending

One of the people who won pulled out her prized on stage. It was a mix of a some of the Hong Kong Pin Trading Carnival pins - box set, lanyard with pins, and mystery tin. Then, I heard a box set from the Channel 28 release, a jumbo Star Wars pin, one or two booster packs, and a frame from a Christmas party.

I know that many of the prizes from games were from Hong Kong, Star Wars, and Channel 28

I liked to listen while in line to the games. The hosts were funny and the contestants usually showed what they won. It seemed like a few extra booster packs and a framed set were part of the grand prize in addition to the items won for first place in trivia.

I wonder if I was the person you traded that Hong Kong gold frame to. I remember the lady I traded with had won it, so maybe!

That package looks terrific. I love the frozen door and Small World jumbo.
 
So on my last day there (Saturday) I was approached by someone while leaving and they asked for my last trading tabs in exchange for some random pins she had. Is this a normal thing? If I would have known I could have traded all of my trading tabs for pins! I didnt have any pins to trade so I didnt use any, I actually lost a bunch because they ended up falling off. Also.... if someone can't make it on saturday for the goodbye gift set would they be able to trade that tab for a pin as well? Or does that goodbye gift just stay unclaimed? This was my first event and I hope it isnt my last! I had so much fun but still a lot to learn about pin trading events

Yes you could have traded tabs for pins..and the person has to claim the gift themselves Friday or Saturday to get the sets

On reflection, I was disappointed in most of the cast members for this event. There were a few gems but many of them were very crabby and rude for getting to stand around in A/C and talk to Disney fans. I get these events are probably stressful but we all paid a lot of money for this. Wouldn't hurt you to smile for two days. They were super pushy about clearing the event too-- I get it, we're difficult to shuffle out. But I just wanted to take a photo of the Pet's World set, and they acted like it was a hassle (and someone in the ops booth turned the lights for it off when I put up my camera). I'm very much a believer in how amazing CMs are and how they can be the best part of your vacation so having less than stellar attitudes from them sticks out to me.

I'm also very disappointed that they advertised photo ops, and then put ropes up in front of the set pieces. What an absolute bummer to not get a good photo with those, they were beautiful.

I kinda get the CMs attitude and while it's not very professional most of them are standing for hours on end with diehard collectors, some of whom I would imagine are very difficult to move along. They're responsible for ensuring the happiness of at least 1000 people at the event so I would cut them some slack although I would hope they do better in the future. Everybody paid a lot of money for the event which sucks because the CMs are only getting a tiny fraction of it conpared to what the company probably made off this event.

I mean trust me, I know what CMs go through. I get the job is hard, but to be frank, the people at the event are likely more pleasant than the other people they deal with on a daily basis. I'm not necessarily mad at them or blaming them, but just saying it lacked the Disney-like atmosphere I've seen at other pin events and other large Disney events in general. My point was is that I don't think the CMs had a love for pins-- they seemed very unenthusiastic about everything and treated it like working a register. I only had one CM interact with me regarding pins (which is what the entire event is about). Just because it's a crazy event doesn't mean they should just drop the magic and not do interactions with the guests about what the guests care about. People travel from all over the world for this. I just wonder if they would be able to select pin enthusiasts next time. Or even if they could have more staff. Several of the CMs were there from open to close and I felt bad for them, so again, I understand why they might be cranky, but Disney could do more to make sure their CMs are up to this. It's partially their fault for pushing them to do full days of something as tasking as counting every minute for nine hours, which is why I was disappointed that Disney allowed the environment to be like this for guests and casts. Disney does plenty of stressful events and still manages to keep magic, so I personally don't understand how it ended up that so many cast members were unhappy working this event. It's marginally on the CMs who turned that bad energy outward, mostly on Disney for causing that energy, but my point is it did have an effect on my experience.

Yeah, definitely get that. There's definitely CMs who have the same obsessions as us and CMs who don't.
