Ok, I keep coming across these pins that say they are chasers for other pins but I don't know what they are. Can someone please explain what they are?
 
Hi there,

Usually when Disney releases a set of pins for example the mystery stamps or the pt52 as they have done previously the pins you receive are colored like any other pin. The chaser pin is the same pin but with a different coloration i.e. no color, or a single color etc. At times chasers are harder to find than the normal pin. A chaser can also be a pin in a mystery set that is not known to be part of that set until someone actually pulls it out. My example for that is Pin 81948: DLR - Disney Girls - Reveal/Conceal Mystery Collection (Rapunzel ONLY) - CHASER this pin being the 21st pin that set and therefore making it a chaser since the set was advertised to be a 20 pin set
 
Thanks for that. So they're real pins, not knock-offs, just with different colors or an extra pin in a set. But what's the backstory for these things? In the case of differing coloration, are they purposely made to run with their look-alikes? Just curious here since I keep seeing this term. Thanks!
 
I would imagine the chaser is just the newest form of putting a LE pin in with the others so you have to keep buying to find it. Much in the way they did LE mystery pack releases with different edition sizes on the different pins. Personally I find that putting a smaller edition sized pin in the series like that is just a greedy ploy to make more money, but it doesn't stop me from trying to get one if I like the set.
 
i've seen chasers in other blind box sets. Like the Kidrobot Dunnys. They tell you all but one of the Dunnys, the last one tends to be harder to find with a surprise design. Same thing with some pin sets.
For people who like a complete collection, they'll buy a bunch to make sure they get that chaser. Thus, it's a great money maker.
It can make it fun to find as you have to "chase" after it. Thus, a chaser.
 
It's very similar to card collecting. I collect baseball cards and Topps releases many box sets with serial numbered cards that I would imagine are very similar to chasers. Example: Topps Tribute will release a small set of about 150 cards (believe me that is small compared to others lol) than within that set they have 1 particular card in 3 designs; each design is a different color and different serial numbered size.
 
A cast member once told us that chasers are INDEED harder to find (in mystery boxes they are lower LEs) BUT even in Hidden Mickeys they are harder to find. He told us that they make significantly MUCH less of the chasers (in Hidden Mickeys) because you have to 'chase' for them to be in your collection. (And yes, they do make a limited amount of Hidden Mickeys, according to that cast member)

I don't really bother with hidden mickeys, partly because I'm not near the park but mostly because they tend to be scraped most often. I have a few, but not many. Collecting them is a personal preference. It's totally up to you.
 
I enjoy looking for Hidden Mickeys in the parks if the set catches my eye. Depends on if the set is something I collect. I don't live near a park so I don't get to do it that often. I'll trade for Hidden Mickeys but only here from folks I've traded with or who have good feedback, not usually on Pinpics. Been burned with scrappers a couple of times.
 
It is completely personal preference. We personally love having sets....so when we started we collected Hidden Mickey sets that we LIKED. They look nice all together. So we do collect characters but we also collect sets of Hidden Mickeys. So at the end of the day, whatever YOU enjoy collecting is worth something.
