At least this CM traded and then pocketed it, I remember my first trip to paris, the Tangled booster set was just out and I had picked up sets for people and I saw a Pascal on a woman lanyard I said could I trade for that one please she said I could not as she was trading for it later and she actually put her hand over it when showing me the remainder of the pins on offer, then we we was walking away my other half noticed she pulled it off and pocketed it I was not that impressed.

To be honest most cast members could care less about pins/pin trading. And the whole trading for yourself thing pretty much depends on your lead/manger or area I think. And also she could have replaced the pin when she got to the break room because that's where most cast members lock up their stuff. So you never know :)

to bad u were not next in line to trade. last year i was at the western ho and saw a cm trading with 2 ppl that had the travel lanyards and pins. I hope in line right behind them so i can get a new cars pin if they trade it. Ne3ct thing i know sumone trys to step in front of me cuz his trade buddy told him that the oin was being traded inside. so guess the blod gose out to the water fast in that pond. lol but any ways i say to the guy.. wait.. im here in line and next. just waiting my turn like a good trader. the guy looks unhappy but oh well i was next. I step up to the cash wrap and tell the cm. You dont need to put that pin on the lots of hugs bear. i will just take that one for me. The guy looks upset and ask me if im going to collect that cars set. i tell him i did the travel pins last year so guess this year i will to.

u should have grabed a pin and said i want to trade for the one that they just trade. its how pin trading works. if your next..your next. Cm can make a trade after you when its there turn.

I've had good and bad trading experiences with CMs. I've run into several who never refreshed their lanyards (one who told me he didn't because Disney didn't pay him for his time to do it) but were pin collectors themselves. I had one in AK pull out his own stash and trade a ton with me when he saw my lanyards. His own lanyard was pretty pitiful looking. I thought it was odd but my guess was that he probably pulled any good pins that came in on his lanyard.

I'm sorry to hear that Disney pulled the tables at Epcot again but I'm not surprised. There are several 'regulars' who are mostly winter traders who tend to be high-pressure, "THIS pin is very rate", kind of folks. Maybe they're trying to send a message to those folks and to also keep the holidays nicer for the casual buyer/collector and kids. I've dealt with many of them over the years and it does kinda get old. I almost never trade with any of them because they want so much for pins that aren't terribly rare or unusual (of course they are rarer and more unusual than my comparable pins of similar age, LE, etc). ;) I remember one a few years ago who quoted $50 ebay values for every single pin I expressed any interest in. She took me for a beginner and I never said anything to let her know otherwise.

HAHAHAHA yeah that is always how I do it too. I prefer for people to think I am new that way if they try to rip off the "newbie" they can instantly go to my do not trade list

During my recent trip, a few cast members had the backwards pins. The first time I saw a CM with this, I tried turning her lanyard around since I thought it had accidentally turned over and she stopped me saying they were mystery pins and I had no idea what she was talking about. Another cast member was putting a pin on her lanyard and I happened to be looking at her and she was turning the lanyard around to put a pin on it. The pin that was a mystery wasn't anything special and I think was just a rack pin.

yeah I have seen dozens of mystery pins on CMs what they normally do is I can trade for it blind or sometimes they make me answer trivia to trade for it. Its actually pretty cute and fun I have never gotten anything good off a mystery pin but still loads of fun HAHAHA

So... I was at DLR again and decided to stop by the Pin Trader's Station again!

The same lady was there, the one that pocketed the pin.
I went over and traded with her. I gave her a nice looking pin just to see what she would do.
She left it on her lanyard however.

Then another worker next to her got the Flynn Rider Pin from the Tangled Booster Set.
She was SO happy she got it!
She however didn't do anything but leave it on her lanyard.
I was going to trade with her for it, but I didn't want to make her sad, so I let her keep it!

My son cannot pass up a mystery pin even though he has gotten too big to trade. He's gotten me in the habit of doing the mystery pins too. About half the time it's from a starter set or a booster pack. But about half the time it's something more desirable (recent hidden mickey, older pin, etc.).

Hahahaha thought this was an appropriate reaction to the subject of CMs pocketing pins. In my humble opinion, CMs already get access to Company D where they can buy special CM only pins and pins at discount so to take off the trading lanyards that are for guest trading isn't really fair in my opinion but I won't judge. As some have said, there's a possibility that she pocketed the pin and later replaced it with something else/replenished her lanyard, so hopefully that was the case. Also, I think the CMs that pocket pins for their own collections are in the minority. I would hope that not too many CMs do this solely because usually the CM lanyards are so bogged down by scrappers lately that it'd be nice if authentic pins that do make it into the parks for trading had a chance to reach guests instead of winding up in the pocket of a CM (especially rack pins) right away.

Hi there :3

This is just my experience but I used to do this all the time AS LONG as I had 12 pins on my lanyard. Also I would keep multiple extra pins in my side bag/pocket. When I was asked by certain people if I had something special or a little kid was just having a terrible day I'd give them the pin or trade it to them. I found alot of pins on the ground and when I'd run out I'd by a pack of vinylmations with my discount, put a few on my lanyard and hide a few good HMS or LES away so when I needed to make a magical moment I'd have something to do that with.

Just wanted to point out the pins sold at Company D and the Cast member store on grounds are not at discount. The regular ones are the same as rack pins, the mystery box pins are still the same average price and LEs range from medium to over the highest rack pin. If ever we get a discount on the Cast member pins its because they've been there for years.

And the pins that are one sale are well...not really the pins anyone is wanting anyways which made them end up there...lol
