Will fantasy PTDs affect the release of a character as a real PTD?
People might not like this, but I report every fantasy pin post I come across. Either Disney is going to crack down on them or block my email account. Let's see which comes first.

I received a fantasy pin Rapunzel with Pascal as a gift. Would it be wrong to use it as a trader if I note it is a fantasy pin? It's lovely but I don't collect Rapunzel. Just curious.

I think it has been discussed and decided that fantasy pins can be traded here, but they must be posted in "Other" For Sale/Trade/Wanted.

If you mean in person and off-site, then yeah, I figure as long as you make it clear they were fan-created pins and not official, it should be okay. Really up to each individual. I know a lot of people seem to be okay with them, or at least trade fantasy pins for other fantasy pins. Some want nothing to do with them at all.

Wow I looked up the new Fantasy pins and I must say some are really nice. The reason I posted Fantasy Pins, Really was that this fad was all the hype back in 03. And it faded out. I still have a Scoopie Groupie Fantasy pin. I was surprised to hear that they have made a come back.
I never traded one and never would as its not an official Disney pin.

Honestly, I agree with you.

I'm seeing a lot more of these on eBay now, and even Etsy. People shouldn't be allowed to sell these.

The stolen artwork issue bothers me the most. It wouldn't have been so bad if people just kept it to themselves, and created their own for fun without advertising it and trying to profit.

My friend's hobby has a similar issue with people creating their own versions of the items they collect. Apparently that flared up earlier this year as well.

This so much ;w;

Like there's a lady on IG who had maybe 40 stolen designs and her friend told her well a fan artist is already stealing a character so it's okay to steal thier art.

And this is the argument she presented when 90% of the community was like yeaaaaahhh no it doesn't work that way.

Especially if a fan artist is just that:

Making art of a character. There are SO MANY fan artists that don't sell their art. They're just hobbyists, and it doesn't mean their art work is FREE.

Also HMU on FB, I think I can help.

I've seen a ton of fantasy pins on ebay for the longest time. Those very dirty Jessica pins, fantasy Snow White pins, etc. that have been around for years. A lot of people are using coloring pages to make "their" pins

Eh, unpopular opinion, but I do think some of the fantasy pins are gorgeous. I was a skeptic until I saw a collection at a recent trading event - while there's many fantasy pins that are rip-offs, they're some lovely ones, too.

I don't buy the fantasy pins, but can I say, I wish Disney had the same kind of read on what us consumers want when it comes to pin art and themes. Geez, some of the scenes and art these fantasy pins are using is amazing. I love how they are continuing old sets with new characters, like the Princess/Sidekick pins and Princess Seasons.

Wish Disney would put that kind of effort into their pins ala Disney A.U.C.T.I.O.N days. It would bring new life into the hobby, because I've seen sooo many Tangled pins with the same tired pose for a lifetime. The pins produced these days are so... stale and samey.

Hey Mike! Long time no see!

One of reasons the DA pins where discontinued was because people bitched there wasn't enough to go around.

Which is also the reason the Designer pin set this year had an increased edition size.

People ***** when it's low, people ***** when it's high. Unfortunately Disney tries to please everyone instead of just saying "deal with it."

I saw people trading the Fantasy Pins for LE Disney Auction pins and I'm talking LE100. I was looking at a sweet DA Tink pin not realizing it was an LE 100. She said I trade LE 100 for LE 100. When I said I was sorry, I had no LE 100's, she said what about Rapunzel Fantasy LE 100. I politely said, I don't deal with the fantasy pins.

I think when trading if both parties know it's a fantasy pin then it's up to them what they do, but profiting off copied/stolen art... hmmm

The only area where I'd consider fantasy pins is where Disney do not make pins of that character (eg pretty sure they will never do an Tarzan/Jane again and I love them so I'd be rally tempted. I wouldn't re-sell them though.)

I will concede that some fantasy pins are well done, but overwhelmingly I am SO OVER fantasy pins right now. Especially when it comes to newer properties like Big Hero 6 and Inside Out. They aren't even giving movies time to cool off before churning out fantasy pin after fantasy pin for them. (Seriously, the DVD hasn't even been released yet!) I have seen more fantasy pins of Inside Out than official pins lately, and it's frustrating to look through photos or books of people's traders and realize that a good deal of the pins are fantasy ones.

Honestly, it feels much more like "hey, slap Bing Bong on this and it'll sell for $100" or "they'll probably do this eventually but I want to do it first" than "this is something that I genuinely want to see done as a pin." The PTDs really grate on my nerves.

So... pertaining to the original question of this thread, the possibility of Fantasy ptds affecting the release of real ones... today is a major case in point. They released Dinah today at DSSH. She's already been done as a fantasy pin. Personally, I like the real one (on the left) better with the exception of the flowers (I think those could've been done better) I got this pic from Facebook.

OMG, yes! Plus I see so many nouveaus, gomes-inspired, beloved-tales inspired, pixar shorts, sorcerer hats. I am like ugh!
