You know you're a shark the moment you offer a brand new LE500 PTD (that still hasn't sold out yet) for a grail Ariel R/C pin (names will not be mentioned) and end your e-mail by saying "I'm a new pin trader so I don't have much but I love meeting really nice people who help me out" :lol: Sharks aren't just those who re-sell after all :P

Again, I remind you: please keep these examples in GENERALITIES that define a pin shark, not SPECIFICS that pertain to individuals to whom they apply. Even if names are not mentioned, alluding to specific people still isn't acceptable; this thread is NOT to become a place for thinly-veiled attacks or a substitute for a Facebook page that no longer exists. If I have to remind you again, I will close it. Carry on, but with caution; you have been warned.
 
I am rolling, I was going to reply to posts, but there are so many that are funny I feel like I'd take up 2 pages just commenting on the funniest ones, they're all funny.

You know you're a shark when you make someone feel guilty for not getting you a pin at cost, when there's only one per person.
"What? You're getting the pin for yourself?"

Not as good as some of them, but you guys have come up with some really good ones.
 
You know you're a pin shark when you tell people on facebook that you don't have PP or DPP because you are trying to hide that you have been sending so many people your upside down requests..like your HM for my Ralph Jumbo or worse! Only to find out that same persons pp from someone else and sure enough you have shot them down over and over again. Sure you don't have PP or DPP or DPF lmfao!

You know you're a pin shark when you claim you don't know the value of pins because you're new to collecting, never sell pins and only want to trade for stuff you like (you know super expensive grail worthy stuff lol) only to find their same screename selling pins on eBay!

how 'bout when you have pages and pages of Soda Fountain pins..... you start flipping through someone's trade book, realize that it isn't wall-to-wall Soda Fountain pins (never mind what great pins they are anyway), continue flipping through the pages while you are actually not even looking at the pages (you are looking around the room), then get to the end and just say "no, thanks." you are a pin shark.

One of my favorites, it's sooo fun when this happens! I even ask them why waste people's time making offers if they literally won't accept anything but the BIN prices...good times, good times.

Yeah, it'd be nice if 'Best offer' was actually enforced... At the end of the auction, you _have_ to sell it to whoever offered the most, even if it's only 1% of your desired profit... :)
 
This is verbatim, I copied it from my response. The asking price was $65 obo and I offered $50, they counter offered with $64.50! I sent the message asking why they would waste people's time to make offers if they would only take the BIN price and this is what they said. "Seller terms: for the same reason you are wasting my time with a low ball bid"
I'm sure $50 is low ball on a $65 asking price?

I've got an even better one. You know you're a shark when you have "best offer" on eBay, and when someone makes an offer you change the asking price and "counter" with the full price you originally listed.

For example, you list a pin for $50 or best offer. I offer $35. Then, you change the asking price to $70 or best offer and counter with a bid of $50. I actually had this happen to me (different $ values, but you get the idea).

I have found that eBay is simply a much more enjoyable place if you just click the little link at the top of any search that says 'Auctions only'. Removes all the cr*p (i.e., overpriced BINs), and just leaves you with people that are actually trying to sell pins, not get rich off of them.

And it will take a search result of 100 items down to an easily manageable 10-15... :)

Saves a lot of time, avoids pretty much every jerk/pin shark on eBay, and shows you what is _really_ forsale...
 
You know your a shark when.....you bring obscene amounts of people with you to try and get as many good numbers to get as many sets as you can.. to sell, instead of giving us, the collectors a chance to add them to our collections.

I agree with Rik on auction only searches, unfortunately the shilling is a problem that seems to also be growing. Please remember to report auctions that look suspicious. There is currently a seller selling a large number of pins and has one bidder that has 75% activity with that seller, they have bid on over 200 of the sellers listings in the last 30 days...almost every single one of their auctions. Report, it's easy and if they are clean it won't effect them.

At Janice...I can only imagine going through a release only to be shot down while watching the flippers walk away with multiples.

Even people that have complained loudly for years about price gouging and sharks are jumping on the bandwagon, I guess the lure of easy money is too great for them to resist. I'm sorry but if you are selling/trading new PTD's or DSF anything at shark rates....you are a shark!!
 
you know your a pin shark when you bring your babies to camp out at 3:00am in the morning just to get an extra set of pins to flip on ebay :D
 
You know you are a pin shark when you pull out of your pocket four or five wrist bands and give them to people joining that person in line. Personal observation at the DSF release.
