SOLD! [CLOSED] WDW Pickups: At Cost Lotto - Final Invoices and Mailout
YOU ARE THE BEST and have graciously handled more than half the pin community realizes. You have gone above and beyond for all of us for a loooonnngggg time, and I have nothing but gratitude for all of it. I am PROUD of you for finally recognizing the need to put #MerlyFirst. Anyone who moans will get an earful from me!

PS: I am ready to hold a bake sale to help you offset the IRS. <3 you, oh Wizard of my heart.

Hey gang,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message--but if I'm honest, I knew it was coming sooner rather than later. I'm afraid I must officially close my pickup thread. I have a lot on my plate right now and am so far behind on things like my dissertation, that the stress and anxiety is beginning to suck the joy out of almost everything. Between a rather busy monthly release, the FairyTails event, and MNSSHP all happening within one month, I have reached a breaking point where my own pin collecting stopped being fun. And that, above all, I cannot allow.

Beyond that, the prospect for future pickups at any sort of similar scale is extremely slim. Yesterday I received a letter from the IRS detailing back-taxes owed because it did not occur to me to file self-employment tax in 2017 for pickups. While I'm glad I've been able to do this and help everyone, it has officially reached a government-level crisis and, simply put, it's not worth it. [Also, I love you all, but please do not contact me with tax advice XD it is being handled, but is no less stressful.]

This weekend, I will be packing up all pins and sending them out--domestic and international. I will not be holding any pins as I will not be doing any pickups in September. Invoices for the pins from this past week are being compiled now and will be sent out over the course of the weekend. My goal is to get everything mailed out by Friday of next week, weather permitting.

It has been an honor and a privilege to have been your WDW pickup wizard for almost three years. I am so happy to have watched collections grow and know that I've had a hand in making them spectacular. I am so proud to have helped curb the unseemly secondary market for a time. And I am so thankful for the incredible kindness, love, and support all of you have shown me throughout this process and the fantastic friends I have made along the way. I am sorry I have to hang up the pickup bag, but I couldn't have asked for better company along for the ride.

Keep an eye out for those last few invoices, and some surprise releases from yesterday that I managed to snag as well. And, too, the slow steady trickle of outstanding feedback.

Thank you all, again, for everything.

Always your Parks Pickup Wizard,

~Merlin

I've always been in awe with how efficiently you've been able to handle the extraordinary task of these pickups and still function as a human being. It's so so so so so so important that you're doing this. We will always love and appreciate you for all you do!

I vote we do a car wash!

Thank you so much, Merlin, for all of the pickups you have done in the past. Dealing with the crowds, heat, and requests, you were as much a warrior as a wizard. You have certainly earned a retirement of sorts. Please take care of yourself, get that blasted dissertation done, and always keep the joy in pin collecting.

And coming from a tax attorney who deals with the IRS on a daily basis, they're just people. They make mistakes the same as anyone else. And where there is income, there are also deductions. And judging by your end of year pickup reports, you are extremely well-organized. The name of the game with Schedule C is substantiation. If you do have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to reach out.

Merlin, words cannot express how grateful I am for the pickups you have done for me and everyone else. They truly were greatly appreciated and inspiring how you were able to accomplish everything. Sending lots of pixie dust to our resident wizard!

Merlin,
Thank you so much for what you have done for the community. I know that my personal collection would not be where it now is if not for you and all you have done.
Blessings to you on your dissertation and your health.

Thank you so much for all you have done and good luck with everything. I have always been amazed at the kindness of you and others on DPF who are willing to put so much time and effort into getting so many pins for strangers at little profit. I hope that since you are stepping back you discover the magic of pin trading once again!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who can say this, but when I first joined this community, you were one of the first to welcome me. You agreed to trade with someone who had little to offer, and zapped me in the process. You played an enormous part in sealing my fate as a DPF community member and lifelong pin trader. More than just the pins you provide, you give this community soul, love, and unending surprise. You helped me to realize that pin trading is about SO MUCH MORE than just the little pieces of metal we stick on boards and admire. Thank you for services, and, more importantly, thank you for being your amazing self and bringing that wonder to our little community.

Good luck with your dissertation and the taxes! I hope you'll still be a regular face around the forums!
