Question regarding pin and original cards

I would really love some feedback and input from fellow DPF traders...Does having the original card affect your decision on trading for a particular pin (assume non grails)? Many times during performing a trade, I have heard the other person ask if I still had the original card. When looking at pins on eBay, would you pay slightly less for a pin that did not have a card as compared to the exact same pin that comes on the original card?

I could care less. I get the pins I want and put them on my lanyard the minute I get home. If I saw a pin on eBay or was offered a trade that was a pin I really wanted without the back card. Oh well. It all depends On the person.

Same here. It makes no difference to me. I just keep the backcards for LE or special pins just in case I need to trade or sell them and the buyer does care.

Sometimes for me the original card is important. I mostly care if the pin is high in value. I want to make sure the pin is genuine and if it comes with original card then it really helps in my decision. I also care if the backer is a special backer. Say for the newly released DSF Brave pins. They came with special backer cards which make them unique to the pin and if I were to trade for the pins I would want those particular backers. Some pins I could care less if they have the backer. It really all depends.

Cards matter if it's special in some way, or if there are scrappers/counterfeits, or if it is a type of pin that might have scrapper warnings even if it may not have one for that specific pin yet. For example, even though I don't collect DA or Ds.com Jessicas or Stitches, if I did I would prefer to have one on original card rather than find out later that it had been counterfeited. Or mystery pins/pwp that are still with their plain black baggies.

But really...aren't the DA and DS cards usually the same (I know there are some exceptions)?? So not sure how much comfort a black card gives me...:dunno:

I personally don't care about the cards, but a lot of people do, so the few that I've received with cards I've started saving. There was another thread about this not long ago; some people leave them on, some save them with a post-it note saying which pin it was from (I've started doing this even though I only have three or four of those).

It seems like the logical default assumption that a pin doesn't have the card (some pins don't even come with cards) and when people have it they usually say so when they bid or sell, so if they say nothing about it, I assume they don't have it. (Requiring everyone to say "doesn't have card" seems like it would be more spammy than just assuming no card unless otherwise stated.)

I've heard enough people lately say they lost a trade due to not having a card, some in auctions, that I wonder whether there shouldn't be a rule added to auctions: if the auctioneer *requires* the card to be with the pin or they'll refuse the trade, they should have to state that up front in the auction post. That would save everyone's time.

Tangentially, I've been wondering lately about the pin backs, too... if people are that picky about other things, is anyone picky about pin backs? I've got some that say "(c) Disney" and some that don't; since I came across some scrappers in the parks and on ebay, are the pin backs bad too? Am I going to run into people who care about that, and lose out because I never paid attention to the little guys?

I wouldn't worry about pin backs. I have so many stocked up from using corrugated plastic in my pin books that I think nothing of them.

When making a trade, having the card is not a deal breaker for me. I don't really care as long as the pin is in good condition, etc. BUT...if the pin has a scrapper warning I may only want to trade for it if it comes on it's original card.

I personally would keep and label all of the cards you acquire, because:

-Some people only trade if the pin comes on it's original card
-Even if there are no scrappers now, this pin may have scrappers in the future, and you can prove that you have an authentic pin
-If you decide to sell the pin, the card makes it more desirable


And regarding the pin backs...I have never had anyone ask if I have the "original" pin backs or anything like that...I just throw all of mine into a large Ziplock bag and take them out when needed. If the pin I am trading has two or more pin backs, I do try and "match" them so they are all look the same, although I doubt most people even notice.

If it is for my personal collection, since I put my pins in binders with pin pages, I am not as concerned about the card backing unless it is a special backing with matching artwork, or history about the pin, etc. Then I would prefer to have it.

If it is a trader, then yes, I prefer to have the card backing, whether a "special" card or regular, as that way if I am asked, I can say I have the original card.

i need backer cards for most of my pins since i have 99% of the backers already. plain backers are important since it gives the pin authenticity. if the sku number does not match then someone is playing games and i know it. with all the scrappers out there backer cards add security. If a pin is going into my personal pin book and is just a plain backer card ok i dont need to keep it but if it is a pin i am using in trade i need to keep it. it will definitly affect some pins value. point in question: the dumbo poh was $100 easy online until the market was flooded with scrappers in 2006 and they became a dime a dozen. now most will not touch it without a backer card. I need a few POH series 1 to complete a set but have turned away many offers since there is no card. I like cards! and like to include them when i trade/sell. it gives it that new on card smell and not the "here is my pin all lonely and used and unbacked" lol. Many people i have been dealing with have been very into getting original cards for the pins i am selling.
