What does everyone think about the value of the Designer Villain Pins?
Well I did get good news from our local store, I'm going to our local DS tomorrow to pick up Alexa and I a Maleficent doll . I have really decided against the Gothel pin as you can barely see her face, but I'd love to have the set, but again I have a better chance of getting struck by lightning . LOL

How very sad that someone called in and cried to Disney asking them to change the way they do business because they didn't get a villains pin set. It would not have mattered at all if some got many..because they just would have sold out to many other buyers just as fast. It took two hours as I understand for this set to sell out ...so what did they expect...just to wake up and log onto .com and just be able to get a set? I didn't get one but NO WAY WOULD I CALL AND COMPLAIN TO DISNEY ABOUT it. What does this person think? Do they think they are just one of a few serious Disney pin collectors or WHAT?

This is the last thing I needed. This is the last thing anyone needed.

I was sitting outside by the street corner at the local café; hat tipped over one eye. Who says a sleuth like me can’t enjoy a cup of joe while doing some detective work? Word on the street is that there are six new babes in town. Normally, I would be eyeing gals like these, but darkness got to them before I could. They even have nicknames…“Villains†they call them.

Out of the corner of my eye I see her. With gams like those, you stick out like a sore thumb. It was Cruella. Her name literally meant “Devil†and she certainly lived up to the name. She wasn’t a cheap gal, and enjoyed the fine aspects in life. But, with high fashion comes high crime in this town. Good thing this town has me….

She was smoking her signature cig when her driver pulled up. It was time to act, and act fast before she got away. Damn, I hope my flask is full.

lol your posts always make me laugh!!!

Im just a bit discusted at the emotional response of someone calling into Disney and having them track the amount of purchases each person makes... geeez if no one could make multiple purchases then how could they give gifts to their kids and friends and trade, it would kinda kill The trading market wouldnt it if we couldnt buy two of amything. And all just to accommodate upset people because they couldn't get a set and saying its just unfair. So I guess no one can buy for their kids or friends because someone else thinks they should be able to buy it. That's just very thoughtless and very desperate amd just sad.

Hurray for eBay seller that have found a way to employ themselves in a bad economy with high unemployent and only a few good jobs rather than living off of tax paying citizens by living off the government, unemployment, welfare and food stamps... I will not judge them as I would have never been able to get one of the villains pin sets if there were not eBay sellers who grabbed a few sets to sell and offer a second chance and also I am thankful for eBay sellers because without them, and the higher prices, my pin collection would have no value. Ebay prices increase the value of our pin collections if you think about it. We need them and they need us. We just need to grab the hot pin releases faster than they do next time and stop crying over spilled milk like some that are calling in and complaining. EVERYONE HAD THE SAME CHANCE TO BUY THESE SETS as anyone else.

Just my opinion on the value of the designer villains:

I for one, felt the set was a tad bit over priced. There are similar sized pins that come from both DSF and WDI that have low edition sizes (200 or 150) and they are only like $10-$12 a pin. This set is like $150 for 6 pins? That's a good $25 a pin! More than twice the price. So yeah, I mean they look nice, but the set should have been closer to maybe $89.99 or $100.

I'm not going to even bother trying to justify the high price this is percieved to be; they look cool but people are taking it to the extreme like its the end of the world. I actually think more people would be offended though if these ended on a CM child's lanyard and they couldn't trade for it.

I wanted to compare some hot pins that were released in the last year with their original price compared with a current closed price on Ebay. Based on current Ebay sold closed prices I did some quick searches and found .... Up Beloved Tales goes for 8x its original price currently. Up Valentine set 5x, WDI Jessica Dressed as DCA set 5x, Lost Key Disneyland Castle 9x, Brave Marquee 5x, Reveal Conceal Girls 5-15x depending on princess. And these pins all have been out a while, with limited editions ranging from le150 to le3000, (some limited release). Disney Designer Villains...... 5x. So its not really crazy to think that these pin's values are not in line with how the market reacts with a new hard to get type pin. Most pins that come out at the park I would say are 1.5 - 2x times marked up on ebay. Just a thought.

My comments/opinions. I'm not quoting everyone I'm directing this at, just a statment. I don't collect Villains and I don't want a set, so be clear, I don't want them. If I was able to get them I would have traded them for my grails.

1. These pins will only drive up the cost of the Designer Princess set and other HTF pins like marquee grails, older PODM, BT, princess grails, DA LE100's, etc. People buying and flipping these now have a lot more money to drop on something else. I see the Designer Princess sets going for over $1500 soon. Someone that bought 4 of these for around $650 total can keep 1, sell 3 of them for $2200-$2400 and they have $1550-$1750 in profit to waste on other pins, and they keep their set. This will allow the people that did get them access to even more grails making those grails that much harder and higher value for the ones that did not get sets to flip.
2. DS.com and other Disney pin selling entities really need to go to Online RSP for these kinds of releases. Make the people enter all the info ahead of time. Name, address, email, etc. You will get some that use friends names and addresses but at least you won't get one person with 15 sets and more than likely no more than 2 or 3. I'm sure many people would have signed up for that and they could spread the wealth. Also, up the edition size. Make the pins they know will be popular higher sizes, maybe LE500 for these, and give everyone a shot. (And lessen the resale value a little.) DSF did it with Nemo marquee and it took 2.5 days to sell out.
3. It's pretty easy to tell who got them and who didn't just by reading the comments on here. Those that did will defend to the bitter end their way and don't want the have nots to spoils their system. Obviously they got what they wanted so they don't want anything to change. They are less about things being fair and more about things being in their favor. I've come to learn with these big money-making releases is more about who you know or how many people you know. People that got texts at 1am from their friends. So lesson learned, make more pin friends! Those that did and are belittling those that didn't, just remember you maybe turning off a future trade buddy.
4. Everyone be patient, the next designer sets, Tangled PODM's, Up Marquee's, etc are just around the corner. I'm not giving in and buying the marquee's that I want for these stupid prices. It's not worth it to me. People that have been doing marquee's for 3 month think they are showing off their HTF pins but I know they dropped a lot of pins/money on them, more than I am willing. I could be around 10 pins from being a completionist but I'm still 25. Those 15 pins would have cost me over $2000 and I'm just not gonna do it. If you bought the villain sets just to sell them and buy other pins good for you. But you are making the HTF pins even more expensive and even your grails you don't buy will go up in price even though your new found profit is gone on other pins.
5. (more like 2. continued) Shame on Disney, they know what they are doing. They know when they are chumming the frenzy and they are willing to do almost nothing about it. DSF listened and I think things will be better. DS.COM and Disney Parks needs to get with the program. WDI so far I've only seen the Disneyana pins be kinda dumb. But they were meant for convention goers that paid lots of money expecting good pins in return so I can't complain too much with those.
6. I hope Disney does looks at the people that bought 5+ sets to the same household/address. I am sure there are a few that bought them for friends/family but that line is way overused by resellers. Too much like crying wolf. Their friends had the same chance as everyone else to log in and buy. These are LE pins, limit 2 per person/household/address in my opinion. If you want to buy your 2nd set for a friend ok. You have 2 friends that can't make it on? Who's the "best"? They get the extra.

AND WOW again at the phychotic response of someone calling the people who got the sets that didnt want say blatant liars. Like what business is it of theirs anyway. And why on earth do they expect people to report to them if they recieved a set of the pins or not. Are they pin the police? I'm almost expecting so see a lynch mod with fire and pitch forks led by some of these people that didn get a set. The only people that should be restricted from buying pins are the people that are becoming emotional unglued because they didn't get a set. Those are the people who should be restricted, the ones that can't emotionally handle pin collecting as it seems to be an emotional hazzard to their health.

Hm, you just joined this site in the last few days and have only posted in this thread. Mostly attacking people that were not able to buy them. Seemingly very defensive for people that got them and especially those that got multiple sets. And yet you berate them on emotional intelligence?

Shame on Disney ???? REALLY????? Wow, the only thing that needs to change is the attitudes and complaints. It seems as though things are getting so out of hand and many people now TRUELY REALLY BELIEVE that Disney deliberately has some kind of conspiracy set in place to deliberately antagonize pin collecters and chum things up for buyers... WOW .... What needs to be done is someone needs to post the contact information for a good phscholigist for these people. DO SOME PEOPLE REALLY BELIEVE that DISNEY HAS TIME TO SIT THERE AND THINK ABOUT HOW THEY CAN CHUM THINGS UP AND ANTAGONIZE PEOPLE OVER THEIR PRODUCTS...I DONT THINK SO! I didn't get a set but ohhhhh well, I will get another hot release another time and will be lucky then. You win some and you lose some. That's how it works and why it makes things fun and this is how and why pin trading works.

What is needed here is a psychologist to treat many people in this discussion. Some of the comments are just unbeleivable! So far it seems some think that Disney is deliberately conspiring and chumming things up to antagonize buyers. I saw a comment saying Disney and the theme Parks need to get with the program...uhhhm. No, the PEOPLE NEED TO GET WITH THEIR program. Their was a comment about people wanting to show off their hard to find pins they obtained..AND WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT????? my god, why on earth would anyone not want to display their hard to get treasures and be proud of them? Isnt that kinda the point?

I've been lurking and trying to stay out of the discussion, but I've decided to speak (write). I understand the disappointment of those who did not get the set, but I would caution against ranting and railing too much to Disney. Recently, it seems like their answer to the "get with the program" attitude was to shut down the LE DS.com pin production completely. Hopefully, this new set is just the tip of the iceberg and these pins are coming back.

I would respectfully ask that, if you feel the need to contact Disney to discuss your thoughts, please be kind, considerate, and civil. Thank you.

What shut down DS.com LE pins are the resellers that bought more than they could flip and then returned the extras. More thank likely many of the same people are the ones that will resell the villain sets. To them they are exstatic, back to flipping DS.com pins. DS.com needs to learn how to do a release. Surprise pins at midnight with no limits to households, email accounts, etc. is just poor and unfair. I don't care how you look at it. Especially when they can't keep their mouths shut and people who know its coming tell all their friends when to go look. Then it's not a suprise release, it's a who-knows-who release. I applaud Theothersteve for posting here asap that they were out. That was very nice and I'm sure other forum members would have done the same. But there are some that would have just assumed no one posted so they and their friends could get all the sets. They take pride when their little clique gets, say 25% of an entire release. Disney should realize what happens and at least make an attempt to make it more fair. You just can't release something so undervalued and turn a blind eye to the mayhem that ensues.

I agree as a elite Pin Trader I love showing off Hard to Find Pins. It might sound sick but I actually get a thrill when a low level pin trader begs for one of my hard to find Pins and I sort of get off on the upset look on their face :yum: while I smile on the inside. We as Leaders in the Pin Trading Community will always get complaints when we are easily able to drop 150 like nothing for something like a Designer Villains set, its all out of jealousy because they are broke.

You can get The villain pin set! Your chances are hundreds of thousands better than getting struck by lightening...however you just need to pay the price on eBay! Lol... No I'm not trying to rub it in as I didn't get a set either at cost but it's not impossible it's just more about how badly you want it and what price you are willing to pay to get it. The sellers don't set the price..the demand and buyers set the price of the pins. If the price is too high, then the sets just won't sell until the price meets the demand and desirability.

THANK YOU! I agree! It is absolutely normal to want to show off and display and be proud of something rare and sought after. I get a thrill tooo! If all these pins were easy to get and anyone could just get them at any time...there would be no point and it wouldn't be fun and why even bother with the hobby.

You guys miss my point. My point was dropping tons of cash on pins to show off doesn't make you an OG, or an "Elite Ping Trader." Whatever that is. Buying a pin set for $150 knowing it's worth quadruple, that doesn't make you an elite whatever either. And trust me, it's not because I'm broke. Dropping over a grand on HTF marquee's, or the like, in 3 months just to parade them so you can get off on a newb's jealousy? Makes me want to throw up the face palm emoticon. Here's your sign...

Remember to keep comments focused on opinions and not people. It's just a discussion :)

Okay: I disagree with your statement.

Not okay: You're an idiot for saying that.

Keep it respectful! :)

Absolutely incorrect. If a collecter collects elite pins then they are an elite pin collecter no matter how much money they spend whether they get it at cost or whether they pays tons of money! Paying a bunch of money for pins does not take away the fact that they are collecting elite pins and does not in no way erase the title of an elite pin collecter. Your arguement is NON SEQUITER. Do not join a debate team! If they collect elite pins then they are an elite pin collecter. Money has nothing to do with it. AND WHAT IS NOT NORMAL ABOUT BEING THRILLED AND WANTING TO DISPLAY ELITE LOW LE HARD TO GET PINS? NOTHING AT ALL. Don't you get excited amd aren't you thrilled when you are able to get a fantastic pin you and everyone just loves! Of course you are otherwise you would not be collecting pins. And what is the purpose of displaying pins? It is to say Hey... look What I got! That's why they are on display! I would not go as far as to say that I like to show them off to get off on newbys jealousy. I LIKE JUST LIKE THE THRILL OF GETTING SOMETHING THAT IS VALUABLE BEAUTIFUL AND RARE AND THAT THRILLS ME! AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABNORMAL OR SICK ABOUT THAT WHAT SO EVER.
