I not only own a magnifying glass, but carry one in my backpack on each and every trip to WDW and would never go to a PTN without one. And I wear tri-focals just to be able to see where I'm going. It's nice to have one since some of the writing on the back of the pins is very tiny🙂
I have one, have for years. I don't take it to PTNs, but I do check pins I get in the mail and any I mail out. I don't send/trade what I wouldn't keep in my own collection.
Great question; yes, we do have a couple of magnifying glasses. We have even seen traders using jewelers loops in addition to their magnifying glasses.
I have one of those and love it! I wear mine clipped on my lanyard. Wouldn't go pin trading without it.
I also have a big lighted one I use around the house
I don't know the name of it, but I actually use one of those magnifying devices that jewelers use. I got from a friend that works in a pawn shop. The maginifcation is superb. It has helped spot a lot of scrappers.
O__O WHOA I feel like a complete newbie again! Do you guys use your magnifying glass everytime you make a trade in person? If so, what do you look for? I thought I gained some experience but now I feel like a newbie pin trader again! Though it might be cause I've never traded in person and what not. Teach me your ways
(They still sell those DSF pins.. the red ones, with the magnifier in the middle. saw some there a couple months ago)need a couple of these!!
Ok I have one with a handle and light with it ,a round one thats like a paper weight,a black long handled one,a flat one that disney sold
my eyes are horrible and YES every trade I do coming in or going out I use it !I just need the one mentioned above
Scott, carries one in his knapsack. Also a mini-flashlight...cause he's obsessed. AND recently a set of drugstore readers...cause he's becoming blind as a bat.😛 He also has a set of mirror sunglass readers and when he starts letting his beard grow out on a Disney vacation...well, let's just say Jerry Garcia LIVES!!!!😎
I use a magnifying glass and a loop. If a pin has something weird on it after looking at it with the magnifying glass, I then use the loop. I will then know exactly what I am seeing. It is a must in this hobby, especially these days.
I really need a magnifying glass too. I have one at home but , just thought I really should have one for pins. The problem is, that I don't want to become super paranoid, I have seen many authentic pins with imperfections.
Question about dips, since someone mentioned above that they look for those. Do we know for certain that this makes them a scrapper? I have seen pin on the rack that have these. I have received pins in their original card, and wrapper/sleeve that's have seen minor dips in.
how do we know for certain? Also yesterday, while updating my collection of Ariel's, I noticed on pinpics, some warnings said there were variations on a pin and some were scrappers. How can we really be certain?
