So, I'm wondering and curious to get people's opinion on this topic; What do you think are some of *the* TOUGHEST pins to obtain? I mean, pins that you really believe "I have a snowball's chance in firery, flaming H-E-double hockey stick" of obtaining? Pins that are borderline unobtainable. I already know of a few commonly talked about ones (R/C Rapunzel, UP marquee, Tangled Marquee...) but what else? I'm interested to see people's answers because everyone collects something different. For me, I'm going to have to go with this pin right here...

I pretty much believe that my chances of ever getting this pin is about 1%. For me this is beyond a simple "Holy Grail" pin. This is like a "Super Ultra Complete Harmony In My Pin Collecting Universe" grail pin :lol: There's one person trading on PinPics and they are most likely trading the LE framed set in which it came with. I've offered multiple trades but nope, no luck yet! Don't get me wrong, the set would be fantastic but I really, really, really yearn for this pin alone because it's pretty much the *only* decent pin of Aquata and aside from Ariel, she was always my favorite mermaid because she's blue. Then I saw TLM3 and grew to like her even more. However, I've never seen this even offered for sale and I doubt it's likely that for such a rare framed set, anyone who actually does own it and sells it, I'm pretty doubtful that they'll break up the pins. I will never cease looking though.

Anyway, what are some other people's pins that you've been searching for years for to no avail without even a trace of trading or a sale? ​

I think there's really only this one pin where Aquata is so focused upon. There's almost no pins she's in because Ariel's sisters weren't really featured characters all that much so it makes sense. There's at least three other pins I know of with all of Ariel's sisters and Aquata is present (Pins: 88719 R/C Family Portrait, 90284 Disney Store Europe Ariel and her Sisters and 49362 DisneyShopping.com TLM Storybook pin) but I don't really like the look of two of them, either her face looks weird or her color is off. So for me, this is like *the* pin for her. Someday .............maybe. :)

I was looking at the wants list of the guy who has your set Aquata. He'd probably trade it for this. The existence of this set blows my mind. 21 LE10s in a frame. Disney must have lost so much money on this, commissioning 21 unique pins for a total retail value of $5000! It makes the stuff they release at current pin events look like an insulting joke. As a new pin trader, I don't even know what to think anymore after seeing this.

The Tinker Bell PTN pin from DLP is impossible 37612. It has 15 trading but over 400 wanting and those 15 trading won't give it up for almost anything. You alread mentioned my wants that are never gonna happen, Up Marquee, Tangled Marquee. I'll probably never finish the set because I refuse to pay the inflated prices for these pins. Maybe someday a pin I get will be a worthy trade.
 
I've tried to get pin 9271 for 10 years now. It's a now retired pin from the Disney Cruise line that you were presented with as a gift for having your Disney wedding through the cruise line. Very hard to get. I've only ever seen it one time... at a Disneyana convention. I just missed it. Someone had just purchased it but was nice enough to let me look at it.
 
My holy grails that I want that are unobtainable are; the princess and the frog marquee, Up! PODM, Ellie reveal and conceal girl and an Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury and Hulk DLP PTN. They're unobtainable because they don't exist

For me, it's the last 4 100 Years of Dreams State pins. Each store only got the pin for its state. The "one store" states got 144 of them. States with multiple stores got 72 per store. A small additional quantity of pins were sold via Disney Auctions when they were just getting up and running. Unfortunately, some started showing up in late 2004/early 2005 without cards by a seller out of Hong Kong. I didn't know at the time, but I bought 3 of them. One was Iowa, and I noticed that the metal between Mickey's legs wasn't cut out. I asked the seller about them, and he said they were factory seconds. This was the first time, I became aware of "scrappers." Unfortunately, for me I don't remember what the other 2 pins were. I have the original packages from most of my states, but the ones I bought from Disney Auctions had giant labels attached to them, so I threw them away. I have looked at my pins and the quality of the 2 "should have been destroyed" pins are good enough that they would have passed inspection, I think, they were just extras. But since I know these are out there, I only want pins that still have their original packaging. And I don't want to spend too much money on them, because most people these days don't have a clue how rare and special these pins used to be. The Nova Scotia pin, for example, sold for $600 the first time it went on Ebay and for several hundred dollars several times.


 
I have seriously tried trading everything in my collection for Pin 23578: WDW - Princess Premiere (Ariel) FreeD. It is currently on ebay but the flower in damaged. I refuse to spend $25 on a pin when its damaged. An old open edition pin that doesn't seem to be that popular should not be impossible to find. That is currently the only pin I am actively searching for.
 
Here are my two unobtainables. They are probably not even THAT limited, but as there is only one person trading on pinpics (who has never ever replied to me, ever), I doubt I'll get these ever.

Some of these pins I would have had no idea are that hard to obtain but rest assured, I've looked at all these posts and if I ever come across someone trading or selling (without asking for a limb as the selling price), any of these, I'll help my fellow DPF members out by notifying that person seeking that particular pin :)

I swear that I saw someone selling the Ariel FreeD pin from their traders about a month or so ago for a good price. I'll see if I can track down who it was and PM you if I find out who it was ...

Thank you! I hope that I find her someday. My pup reminds me so much of Vixey, that the character now has some weird sentimental meaning to me. :lol: But you think it wouldn't be so tough! Especially since it was OE! Gotta stay optimistic!
