:rolleyes:I have absolutely no problem with the sales games, nor do I wish this to be a tough argument topic. I like the creativity people are exhibiting with their sales idea's. I just want to express concern of the sheer volume.... I also want to know if anyone else feels that perhaps a raffle/game sales sub forum should be established.

:coffee:My understanding of how these things seem to be working: (I haven't bought into any, except one that Moe did at the beginning)
  • you pay a certain amount for a number, letter, reserved spot.
  • the "prize" is in a special unknown spot that is revealed after the sales game is done.
  • every spot (generally) gets something for their purchase.

:confused:I have heard that there are one or two games in which you are not guaranteed something for your buy in... Which doesn't seem right. IDK, I heard that, and I am not gonna get into that right now. I have not looked. I literally gave up looking in the sales forum because it feels like it is aaaaalllll games right now. :rofl:

There are so many different sales games going, that regular sales threads are getting buried.:eek2: Totally buried. Not even noticed. And that concerns me. I plan to sell off a tonn of my basic traders after Christmas and I don't want my regular "no game no gimmick no prize" sales thread to get pushed to page 2 over and over. I do not want to have to bump my sales thread 4x a day, just to be sure it is noticed.

:cool:Does anyone else feel that these sales games could really use their own sub forum? It seems like a good idea to me, much like the Auction house that was established. It would need some basic rules and regulation i assume. So what kinds of rules would you all like to see for a "sales games" forum IF it was created?
 
I do agree with this somewhat. I have only done games twice so I don't have much experience but on the other hand, if there is a games section, people competing would still flood up the activity stream. No matter where you put a game people would still post and it would continually be popping up on recent posts, you get me?
as far as normal sales thread, I feel like when you do games, everyone being a winner makes them feel special. Whether you won the grand prize or some other cool pin. I love the feeling of anticipation and not knowing what I'm going to get while still paying a great price!
I see where you are going with this. And although a game section sounds great, I don't think it would help the whole sales thread non games too much.

Could be toned down a bit or given their own sub forum.

The cynical side of me sees it as people finding a way to get rid of their lesser traders and get more money.

But the logical sweet side of me sees it as people wanting to have fun with sales.

Either way it did explode after Moe did his games which proved to be super fun and I think everyone else got excited by it and wanted to try.

BUT! Those that don't give you anything at all if you lose are technically doing something against the law since it's kind of illegal at least in CA to "raffle" for money with a chance to not get anything.
 
I agree about the subforum. I've been combing the sales forums to buy a Pluto PoDM pin and I'm having a really hard time finding any that are just for sale. Not that I'm complaining about people choosing to do games with their PoDMs. If the mods allow the games, then fine. But it's a bit difficult to weed out the games from the regular sales.

On a side note: Looking for Pluto's Christmas with a Pluto cell!
 
I agree that a sub-forum is needed - while the activity stream would still be filled up with the games, regular sales wouldn't be buried when looking at the straight sales forum.

I don't know about the laws on raffles in CA or elsewhere, but I'd expect that most states would have similar laws about raffles/lotteries?
 
Okay, since you brought it up. I didn't want to be accused of "stomping on people's fun." I've been concerned that these "games" especially the Bingo game are technically against gaming laws. Dizpins was always too scared of the legal liabilities from negative feedback but this goes beyond that. Bingo, raffles, lotteries are all serious business as far as governments are concerned and regulated. Your non-profit wants to run something in a church basement, you may need a permit. But these are not only for someone's profit, money is being exchanged across state and country lines for something everyone is considering a game. The possible can of worms the site could be potentially exposing themselves too would make me nervous if I was running it. I'm not a lawyer, but I'd want to talk to one.

The "everyone gets something for their $5 or $10 entry" is probably be okay because you are getting a guaranteed something. It's basically a grab bag with only one random item. But I don't know really know about these either. I know earlier in my scrapbooking days, I used to see things on Ebay where you were bidding on a Tote or a Box filled with random goodies. Because of Ebay's rules the auctions all had disclaimers that you were bidding on the tote or decorative box ONLY, and everything inside were free.

I agree. I looked briefly at the California link, and it seems that only certain non-profit organizations can run lotteries, and they have to get a permit first. (I have no idea how/if the law would apply to games where there is a guaranteed 'win' of some kind.)
 
Plus I hate to see someone google(they could)BINGO or anythingelse related to that and it could cause alot more ppl to join and maybe even spammer trash
 
You guys are all making this into something it's not. And FYI people do not give out their worst traders as the other prizes. I recall giving out 5-6 podms as well as nothing but wdi and DSF pins as prizes!To assume that people are being greedy is just ignorance.
It is season of giving an I think people have been more than generous allowing people the chance to win such great pins for so cheap! I don't get how anyone wouldn't want someone tohave this chance?
 
I just started a secret santa game in the trading forum where you can steal a pin up to 2 times. Should be fun if I can get 14 people to sign up and offer a LE2000 or less pin.
 
Agreed. I don't necessarily think that the games are unfair or shady, but they are taking over the sales forum. It's a nuisance to go in there and look for good sales when all I see are games that I don't want to waste any more money on. I'd rather spend 40$ on a podm I like instead of 5$ on a 1 in 100 chance to get one. /: I think that there should be a gaming forum, with very strict rules considering the laws of raffling/gambling.
 
I was just thinking about this the other day. I do think there should be a sub-forum for the games, because the people who are selling tend to get buried, and quickly too. It may still clog the activity stream, but like another said, having a separate area for selling and for games will provide those selling the view time they used to have.

I will also say I'm against the games that give you a "chance" instead of a guaranteed prize. I've only played games that give you something in return for your money (with the exception of some of Moe's - to get items needed for the last task, but that in-itself is something). If this was going to a charity then I would perhaps play for no prize (when I found out Moe's money was going to a good cause, it was all the more reason to play).

Just my thoughts.
 
I would say a sub-forum is in order. So far I don't believe I have seen any games lopsided in the favor of the game creator. The total money received seems to be consistent with fair value of the pins. In ones that I have played, I have been happy, even with the consolation prizes, some of which have actually made it in to my collection. It adds an interesting twist, but as with all things like this, take into account the odds and play in moderation. I doubt it will get too out of control since we all have limited funds and still need cash to pick up future releases and others not being raffled.
 
As I do not participate in games and rarely buy pins, so whatever is whatever. However, illegal is illegal. Someone should definitely look into that portion.
 
I agree that a sub-forum for games could be the way to to go just how the auctions got there own seperate are for postings. So I am all for that. I have yet to participate in any of the games just down to not having the money to join in lol That being said I would hate to pay for chances to win when there are others doing these types of games where you are garunteed a prize especially if you fork out like $25 to recieve nada XD

I think they need to have their own section and compete against similar kind of threads.

I am also not sure how suitable it is to name these threads "games" since we already have a games sub-forum and those games do not involve payment.

I think the main concern isn't whether the games are a good deal or not - people can make up their own minds whether they want to spend the money to play. The bigger concern is whether some/all of them are legal. The mods/owners might want to get a legal opinion.
 
Although I am running my own for the first time, I do agree with some of the sentiments here. A sub-form like the Auctions got would be a perfect fix.

And I always figured as long as the participants got something in return that it was all above board. When you buy a lottery ticket, you are buying a "chance" to win some mulah. In most of these games I've seen though, every member is actually shipped something in return for their payment.
 
Definitely needs a sub forum as it is getting very cluttered.

Games that are just straight up lotteries/bingo are almost certainly illegal under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and/or the Wire Act. The grab bag ones where everyone gets a prize is beyond my ability to interpret the law to know.

I've also noticed a lot of the games are of dubious value, but that's not really an argument as that's up to the participants to decide.
