What'd I tell ya? My two favorites! Tangled has a mix of the little mermaid and beauty and the beast, and all three are my favorite movies. :D

Little mermaid and Tangled similarities: Boat scene, pet sidekick named Max( Maximus) , tour of the kingdom, both chasing after a dream, both defy their parent, both wanted to be a part of another world....

Beauty and the Beast and Tangled similarities: Books/reading, lives with single parent, both want adventure, the tear that heals vs the Beast's transformation, the male protagonist changes for the better after meeting the female protagonist( Belle, Rapunzel) .. Etc.

I could go on, but you see? It's a combination of two fantastic movies! It's not the same and to me the little mermaid will always come out on top, and Beauty and the beast is , well.... beauty and the beast, but you get the idea. ;)

Oh and let's not forget Jasmine:

@Romancing_Train

... All the yes. So agreed.

I considered collecting Rapunzel for about two seconds. I decided very quickly that it would be a grave mistake. I love Tangled-- it's up in my top five favorite Disney movies. Rapunzel is my second favorite Disney princess-- she's beautiful, relateable and just awesome! I happily have one beautiful PODM of the lantern scene, and I have a few OE Rapunzels as well (most of them are in my younger sister's collection that I'm saving for her). And that's all I need. Would I love a Tangled marquee or the Opening Day pin? Yes. Do I need them? No. They would sit in my pinbook for no reason. They'd just be something to boast about. I don't trade, so they wouldn't be going anywhere either.

I don't think Tangled or Rapunzel are OVERRATED. I just think people are crazy.

I waited for the Rapunzel PTD with my sister but only because I collect Rapunzel ad I am hoping with the extra pins we might be able to get older rapunzel pins. My daughter is special needs and all she loves is her punzel, pascal, and max plushies. So it is so hard to get the older pins. I thought maybe just maybe this would be worth it to some traders but I was wrong. :(

Tangled is still new, and collected by a lot of newer collectors. Only a fraction of pin collectors make the 5-year mark (we should do another "how long you've been collecting poll), less 10-years or longer. Many seem to burn out in 2-3 years. The movie came out late 2010. So let's see where we are in late 2013, and then again in 2015. Tangled will go through a life-cycle just like every other collection. We're still in the first phase, though, where the initial collectors may not have started to drop out.

My 2 cents: Tangled came out without a whole lot of fanfare. It turned out to be extremely popular and people love the characters. The pin releases, even when the movie first came out, were pretty minimal and there really haven't been a whole lot of new ones, just a few here and there - so there aren't that many Tangled themed pins out there. So the film/characters are really popular and there are relatively few pins. No wonder people go nuts when one comes out. I feel that it has been the same situation as UP, where there weren't that many pins available - and still aren't. Both Brave and Wreck it Ralph are kind of in the same position except they haven't seemed to gain the momentum and popularity of Tangled and UP - at least not yet.

With UP and Tangled. the pins released so far are fairly limited in character and film scenes. Many of them use the same artwork. There are a lot of things left to explore for pins.

UP: Very few of Ellie and Kevin. I don't think I've seen any of the dogs on pins aside from Dug. One pin of the villain maybe?
Tangled: Only one pin of Mother Gothel in her old form and none of her young. No young Rapunzel or short brown haired Rapunzel. No King and Queen or thugs or twins. Many scenes in the film haven't been seen on pins.

With this situation it's not hard to see why a PTD pin that uses overused artwork with a soda stuck on would be so popular. There is so little supply for the demand.

SO what are upcoming films that will be similar to this with pins? Frozen? The next original non sequel Pixar?

Also...Tangled pins hurt my heart. The fact that there are so few pins with so few designs used hurts my heart as well as my brain...I even did the math on it all....

There are relatively 35 pins with Rapunzel on them. (This includes the pins announced for Paris next year)

9 of those pins are `Punzel with her head in her hand
3 are her looking over her shoulder at Pascal
4 are the same as the heart shaped jewel pose
5 are Punzel twirling her hair around her finger
3 have her sliding down her hair
5 are her brushing her hair
And finally there are 6 other unique poses.

12 Unique poses for 35 pins. And some of the poses are EXACTLY the same but one will be OE and the others will be le 250-300....REALLY!!

I think the pins were set up to cause this...I dunno...I just do ._.

Omg. This xD There's a few of the dogs though, but only one set ever for the main bad ones? It was the P52 Balloon series i think.

I wanted to add that Tangled will certainly die down when Disney releases another movie that is comparable to it in terms of character and story. Who knows, Frozen could be the next Tangled. It's easy to say, "I doubt it" but you never know until the movie hits.

Psychologists call this phase of marriage.. the first 3 years... the "honeymoon phase."

I already divorced Tagnled. I seriously doubt I will divorce PINS, but life leads us strange places.

Mother gothel is young in the Designer series...... so there are 2 gothel pins. lol

Goodness, i would enjoy seeing some pins of the thugs and more of Maximus.

Thats all I could think about when I saw the end of tangled. I was like WOOOW. I was a little annoyed, but that's just because my daughter and I love Beauty and the Beast. :)

she is definitely overrated but wait until the next disney hit film with a princess in it, then rapunzel will just become one of those other princesses......and everyone can stop fighting over her lol

We already have another new princess, Merida (she is becoming an official princess later this year). Brave pins tend to sell anywhere from $30-$180 (DS set has sold for around that). The most expensive Rapunzel pin is in the thousands. Rapunzel is an incredibly popular princesses and doesn't just get thrown in with the group of classic princesses (Snow to Jasmine). Rapunzel merchandise sells really well and her pins are incredibly popular. Once Frozen comes out, I doubt Rapunzel's popularity will go down. She has an incredibly loyal fan base. Tangled means a lot to most of the fans. They tend to have a rather personal connection with the movie and don't just like it because Rapunzel is pretty and wears purple. That being said, her loyal fan base is one of the reasons Tangled pins are ridiculously expensive--every Tangled fan who is a pin collector wants those pins. Many Tangled fans are completist and have to own every pin out there. Since it is a newer movie, it is much easier to do that. Snow White has thousands of pins so its nearly impossible to be a completist with her pins whereas Rapunzel/Tangled has maybe 100 pins.

While I love Tangled, I am not a diehard fan of the movie. I think some of the pins are rather ugly and don't want to collect them. That being said, I am an odd one when it comes to Tangled pins. So while I think the pins are a bit overrated and so is the movie to an extent, most people will disagree. People who have Tangled pins to trade will keep them for their grails because the pins are that valuable.

I have tried to collect Tangled, but the frenzie has kept me at a distance. I have a couple pins and the PODM. Living far from the parks just make it that I am not able to try to get them at time of release.

I like the movie and Rapunzel and Pascal. The movie is very special to me. This is the first movie my daughter (now 5) watched in the theater. Now she and her little sister watch the movie at least one a month on one of our movie nights. I can confirm as a mother of 2 small daughters the popularity of anything Punzel is very hot. We had a very difficult time finding the wedding day costume for my daughter. Sheets (in twin size), books, the small princess doll are hard to come by. Now, when I see something I buy it and just keep it until I need to give it as a gift. (Don't get me started on the popularity of My little pony. )

I do believe it will probably cool down. Most likliy when more rapnzel pins are ok there and younger collectors interest will move on to the new "hot" princess or Disney movie. (Maybe OZ?)

But watch out whenever that brown haired Rapunzel comes out. My personal preference is brown hair Rapunzel, since I can point that out to my daughter who keeps saying all dark haired girls are witches. If there ever is a brown hair Rapunzel pin, I may have to bear the ebay prices to get it.

I could ask the same thing about stitch, haunted mansion, Alice, and NBC but I don't. I buy those pins to trade away for the pins I want.

In some of their defenses (and by "some" I mean just Stitch and Jessica lol) Stitch's pins as well as Jessica's are extremely creative, putting them in poses and mashing them up with characters one could only die of seeing (Guest Start Stitch, Stitch Invasion, most Disney Auctions pins, Jessica as pins in general, Her Famous People pins, etc.) and they are all so incredibly unique. Tangled on the other hand...well, Romancing_Train summed it up, in terms of creativity, they lack A LOT considering they are the same image most of the time with different props and backgrounds so far at least, so I don't understand where $1,200 comes from for the R/C pin when there are 8 other pins with her in the exact same pose, but this one has a border (this is just my perspective, I'm not a Tangled collector nor have I ever thought of it, the only pin I like is the Gondola one, which I am getting already soooo...yeah xP)

We already have another new princess, Merida (she is becoming an official princess later this year). Brave pins tend to sell anywhere from $30-$180 (DS set has sold for around that). I don't know how Tangled collectors think lol but I have taken a few psychology classes and I have a strong feeling that the small amount of pins is one of the biggest reason why she is so popular. Don't get me wrong, I agree that if I had to rank my favorite princesses, you would easily find Rapunzel, Ariel, Belle, and a few others at the top. At the same time, those 3 are easily the most popular princesses to collect in terms of pins :)

However, what makes collecting Rapunzel so much more appetizing than Ariel or Belle is that right now, when pin trading has become huge recently, those who are new to it, the idea of having "everything" is so tempting, how can one turn it down? When I first started collecting pins, I went through a list of phases where I wanted character who didn't have many pins out? It is because it would be relatively easy to complete all pins for say The Muses in Hercules as opposed to Stitch. That idea, coupled with the fact that Rapunzel is one of the more popular princesses (but by no means the most popular, I don't think any princess will ever compete with Ariel or Belle's popularity) is what drives her pin's prices so high.

Doh! You're right! Yeah, there are about 4 pins with those dogs. Still, not many and NONE of them are flying airplanes! lol

So true! And I love the Tangled/Aladdin comic

I think the fact that she her story resonates and reminds us of our favorite classic princesses is a big reason she is so popular. Tangledis easily my second favorite princess. (Belle being my 1st if you didn't know ^.^) I love how they made a princess movie that finally reminded me of the old Disney classic princess movies, and really felt like one I could sit down and watch as many times as Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid or Aladdin. Tangled actually kind of reminds me of Enchanted for that reason - both remind me of why I love Disney, "cheesy" moments and all

Is Tangled over hyped? Yes. The hype kills a lot of the pins for me. I'd probably have a whole Tangled page if it did not feel like a complete burden to get the pins I want. It does make me reevaluate just how important the few LE tangled pins I have are to me, or if I just want to simplify more and stick to easy to find ones. Not sure yet :dunno: But it's not like it will ruin Tangled for me. It's just a matter of making sure I keep pins as a fun hobby instead of something I do even though it stresses the joy out of me. :|

That being said, I can't blame people for loving Tangled and having that be a contributing factor to why Tangled pins are so hard to find. Nor can I blame people who go after Tangled pins simply for good traders or to pay a bill as I don't think I'd be able to pass up that opportunity were I given the chance. It just makes me have to keep simple when collecting her and try not to let the hype get me down too much. (Instances like PTD hurt when the situation keeps you from having any chance at a pin, but the trick I try to keep in mind is is to get over it without taking it out on anyone else - it makes it easier.)
