UK Disney Store surprise release - South of the south
I'm guessing it's a limited release, rather than limited edition. You can buy up to 10 pins with each order which suggests either they've badly messed up their website again or they'll keep producing it till they decide not to. I have a spare pin on the way if anyone wants to trade. Am I the only one stupid enough to keep putting orders in for £50 to get free postage? :eek2:

I had never heard of the film before so i'm not interested in this pin but if it means we might be getting more suprise releases in the future I am all game.

Yes I was quite shocked this morning when I did my daily check of the website {cringe}. I thought they'd added the jungle book pin back yet again and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the Song of the South pin!

I'd love this pin, but its not wort the hassle nor price. I did love when they did the reveal conceal boxes because they had scenes from he movie ///ride and no writing...so it filled a long void of SOTS pins.

Id have and LOVE to watch it again because i saw it as a kid and have nothing but good memories of it, nor did it leave me thinking Uncle Remus was stupid --

In an open opinion i hate that alot of classics that have any kinda of steotypes are banned or destroyed. I can understand the upsetment however, just a shame some Shirley Temple movies, little Rascals are literally GONE, bugs bunny epicsodes and Song of the South. Like i said, I'd have to watch it again but i dont remember it being negative.

UK DS has not had a core pin for quite some time, so this could be a LE but just not mentioned on the website. The person that does the website makes a mistake every release !

Anyway I will have a spare when they arrive aso if interested, let me know and see if we can get a trade going.

I wonder if Disney is testing the waters with this pin. Disney has released a lot of controversial material through the "Treasures" DVD series. The "Front Lines" treasures DVD had some stuff that I never thought Disney would make public. (Japanese stereotypes and much more). Maybe if the pin doesn't cause too much controversy they might consider releasing the film again. Maybe just in the UK or maybe they will release it in the US with Leonard Maltin giving disclaimers throughout.
On a side note, I love the history of the Disney studio. If you are a Disney history buff, you need to check out the treasures series.

I remember when I found the sneak peak of this pin last year. Nice to see it was finally released.

Disney might release the film in their foreign market (i.e. non-US market) again but it wont be released in the US anytime soon. The film has a really bad history here and it would cause a lot of problems for the company. Its also just too controversial. I do think they will release the film in the US again but I'm guessing it will be for a limited time 100th anniversary thing.

I don't think the film was that hated in the UK, as I remember BBC airing it (years ago though), I remember taping it, but off course, now I can't find that tape again.
Though, they could have just aired it anyways.
