In our house, my hubby is all about completing sets. Me, I just want pins of characters that I adore. I love love LOVE Maleficent (ever since I was a strange little girl). Also, is it just me, or is there a serious lack of Lion King pins out there? I don't understand why there aren't more. I like (a few) princesses, but it seems like LK doesn't get the representation that I think it should!!! WHY? :) Just wondering what everyone's strategy is though....are you a "set" person, or a "just the characters I love" person?
 
Mostly, just have fun. We collect a few different things and wouldn't do so if we didn't like the pins or have fun collecting sets and characters and themes.

Money or lack thereof does help to limit the collections to those themes, characters, and sets so that the monthly costs are not overly insane. :)
 
My main collection is Snow White. I tend to only collect Snow and the Queen. I do plan on starting to collect Dopey and Sleepy since they are my favorite dwarfs. The only real theme I have from the movie is the 75th Anniversary pins. I have all the ones that came out the last few months.

Outside of my main collection, I collect pins of my favorite movies; Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Tangled, and Aladdin. I have some misc pins with characters I like/I just liked the pin.

As of right now I am mostly collecting Snow White pins since its my main collection. I am thinking about maybe focusing on a different film I love each year so I don't get bored with one theme. We'll see how it goes.
 
I tend to just buy pins of characters or movies that I love. I also like to collect pins of rides that I like at Disney World, and whenever I actually go to Disney World, I always try to get a pin with the current year on it. That way, i'll always remember which years I went to Disney World(since my memory isn't very good and all the years tend to run together for me). I will also buy a random pin if I happen to really like it's design :).
 
I focus on a number of themes, but I'm not a completist. There are just some ugly pins out there and I don't want them in my collection. Its a fun hobby and I don't want to stress myself over trying to get all of a specific theme.
 
We do both. When we first started we didn't get why people did all the pins of the characters so we wanted to just do sets and now we're back to it with our main (SET) collection being Beloved Tales and our (side SET) collection being Duffy Hats. As for characters we do Ariel & Beauty and The Beast :) just not all the pins, only the ones we both really love

It's very strange that there aren't more Lion King pins because the film was a huge hit. And btw, Maleficent is cool!

kinda same with him. Tend to go for pins that are in my top 10 favorites, but definitely collect lion king which I'm currently working on. main 3 movies i work on are Wreck it Ralph (completest) Aladdin (good looking LE's) and Lion king(also good looking LE's) but i have marquees for my favorite movies or the movies i watched with the wifey.

Also sentimental pins that meant something to me as a child or just mean something in general!
 
I'm all about hercules. I don't like other films as much so I cant make myself spend money on / trade for them. There are some hercules pins I will not actively seek because I don't think they look nice but apart from that, I am trying to get all the Herc pins I like. It doesnt get much love, so there are not that many pins left I want.
 
I'm aiming to have my main collection as Lion King, but if I see other things I like it won't stop me from getting them just because I don't collect the rest in that set. So one main collection and lots of 'bits'
 
There are one or two themes that I am a completist on. Piece of Disney History and working on all the Mr. Toad pins. Other than that, it's what I like. If I was a completist on such things as Donald and all the Epcot pins, I would have gone crazy quite a while ago!
 
I think there are plenty Lion King pins out there, haha.
(though, something new and special might be nice again)

As a Lion King collector for the past 19 years now, I don't even own half of the pins that are out there, hehe.
So yeah, I only really collect the Lion King pins really.
And here and there 1 I really like, or think is cute, like Pascal or the Aristocat kitties.
 
I kindof think of myself as all over the place with what I collect. First off, I'm not much of a set person. It always seems like there are one or two pins in the sets that I just plain don't like and pins have gotten soooooooo expensive lately that it's not worth it to me to buy pins I don't like just for the sake of completing a set. For the most part, I just try to get the pin/pins that I like the most for characters or themes that interest me. So that means my pin book has a lot of different stuff in it like Ariel, Brave, Beauty and the Beast, Stitch, 101 Dalmatians, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Jessica, Jasmine, princesses, Star Wars, Duffy, resorts, and more. It's just about getting what I like and not feeling obligated to get every pin in a set. That way, in the end, I'll have a pin book full of pins that I love.
 
I collect with my best friend. She is a completer so very set we start we finish. We have only been collecting five years so we are still new. We are still working on some of the early Hidden Mickey and Cast Lanyard sets. I really like those and it gives us both something really hard to find when we go to pin events. Now most of the older pins are scrappers. At least that has been our experience . She is now collecting Brave and I collect any pin that is patriotic or Mickey Icons

I try to keep to a very narrow theme in general, just to limit how much I have to buy. For example, I wouldn't collect just any Haunted Mansion pin, because that's a huge money pit. If I were to collect Haunted Mansion pins (at present I don't), it would be ones with Disney characters on them. Collecting them by specific set is even better, because that gives me a definite goal. It's just a way of making sure I don't spend too much money on this hobby.
 
I tend to be a completer. I collect Mary Poppins, Brave, Mickey's Philharmagic and the Piece of Disney Movie pins. My goal is to complete all of those sets and I feel it's doable (except for a certain Swarovski umbrella pin). I also collect Maleficent, but there are so many ugly Maleficent pins, I'm only collecting the ones I like (and there are a fair share of those).
 
I'm both, but I'm probably more of a "set" person. All my signature pin wants are the "last pin for a set," so I guess that proves it. I like checking off lists and collecting things like a "Pin of the Month" collection, or a hidden mickey set, or a pwp set is more satisfying. Starting a new set feels attainable. Calculating the price of completing the set seems not too bad in comparison to open ended character collections. I do have character collections, but in those I need hundreds of pins to be complete, and I am a completist. Even when I get several pins all at once, they barely make a dent so it's easy to get frustrated. I prefer that they are more "back burner" collections, with the thought that maybe someday after a bunch of all my other sets are complete I can make them a primary.

I'm mostly a theme person. I like certain rides and Stitch, but there's not really a set list I'm trying to finish. I like to keep my options open. Anything I like has the potential to be put in the ol' collection.
 
My collection looks completely random, but actually every pin symbolizes an event, place or a character that means something to either me, my boyfriend or the both of us. My most favorite pin at the moment was given to me as a surprise for Valentines. It's the Cozy Cone Motel sign. Cars isn't even one of my top Pixar movies, but I loooove Cars Land. Disney did such a great job creating it. I also like vintage looking neon signs and the Cozy Cone sign is my favorite one in Cars Land, so this was the perfect gift to give me.

The Cozy Cones have also become our adopted hangout spot, particularly at night when everything is lit up. For those who haven't been, try to get there at dusk. That's when they turn on all the signs and play "Life Could Be A Dream" like in the movie!

I also recommend trying the different food and drinks served at each cone, so come hungry. I'm addicted to Red's Apple Freeze (same drink as LeFou's Brew in WDW) and the pretzel bites.
