TANGLED on eBay for $1525

eBay people have gone loco. I mean, a pair of Dug pixar pins just sold within minutes of each other, The LR went for $46 and the LE200 went for $36. I tall depends on who is bidding and how much they bid (or more accurately how much they snipe.) Apparently what we all think as a subset of the pin community has 100% no bearing on reality with eBay buyers. Rasputin must have hit the lotto with some of the things you've won/bid on. How many, percentage wise, would you say you win? Do you look at who beat you and the first/last letter and is it the same person?

I haven't looked at who has outbid me. I rarely get into a bidding war on eBay. I am more of a best offer or BIN guy.

I hate losing, that is why I don't like to bid.

And I now give up on older pins I do not have. I only needed three and I will not pay that much. The most I have paid is $250 and that made me cringe but...no. I will never pay that nor would I expect anyone to. I am in a tight spot and didn't even consider bidding but if this is where we are at I may sell some of my less cherished Tangled pins to make ends meet and get my savings back up for that Europe trip I am dreaming of.

Unfortunately, this makes pin trading/collecting stressfull instead of fun. I will hold off selling anything for now as I have worked hard for what I have...but if new Tangled pins make crazy jumps like the upcoming Beloved Tales I may have to throw in the towel.

This is one of the last 2 "biggies" for our collection, while my husband did go a little overboard with the bidding (we had agreed at a price below 1k) I don't blame him, we want to complete this collection and have tried numerous trades and offers to get it and the trades always went nowhere or we were pretty much laughed at  and those were times when we were actually able to find someone looking to trade or sell. It is very hard to put a value on a pin that will help to complete your collection and will have the rest of your life and pass down to you children. being so close and yet so far away sucks.

My decision to collect pie-eyed Mickey Mouse pins begins to look better and better everyday. :)

My sympathies go out to those who have just seen any chance of ever getting this pin fly out the window.

I hope you don't feel the need to rationalize your decision. It was your money to spend, and you are happy with your purchase and thats all that matters. There is always going to be someone on here that thinks its crazy, and maybe it is, but its your business, not theirs!! (I also don't have sour grapes as I don't collect Rapunzel lol)

Oh I thought you won it :( Well Good luck for next time! The previous statement still stands though.

I probably should have left this comment alone, but ever think what if his/her brain helped earn whoever that money or that money isn't everything to that person? People can be so ignorant. I'm going to hide inside a trash can now to avoid any conflict.

All I can say is whoever paid that much for a pin has got more money than brains.

I remember when this pin was a relatively easy buy (unless my memory is wrong on the subject), back when I bought the marquee and chair for very reasonable prices. I was very tempted to get it as well but decided that since I knew nothing about the film I'd stick to just Flynn, which worked out well really considering what pins he was on. But I do wish I had have gotten this now too.

I'm sorry you didn't win, Darris and Angie! :( I am just stunned that it went that high! Another one will show up, I'm sure of it!

also, in my opinion, it's really no ones place to judge people for how much they are willing to spend for things. People save up for what is important to them. For some that something is a expensive handbag or video game console, for others it is one very elusive pin. For some it's all three things! It's not your money so why do you care?

OMG!! This is resembling the real estate bubble with every passing day. I am happy to have purchased this pin 2 yrs ago, but at the same time I can't help thinking eventually all bubbles burst.

I'm not sure I really care what you do with your money. It's the flip side of how much you just made the thing I want appreciate in value. (Side not, I don't want that pin, just any pin in general.) It takes a goal you have and pushes it farther away and it was nothing you did. It's like if you were about to graduate and then someone said you have to do another year. You didn't do anything, someone else did. So your cherished pin that has eluded you just went from like $300 to now $1500 in peoples eyes. That makes it so much harder to get now. I think in most hobbies if something sells super high then everyone sells to cash in until the price drops. In this hobby it seems most hold on to it because they too are also trying to complete their collections. It's hard to tell what will be a $500+ pin 2 years ahead of time. I'm sure in 5-7 years a lot of the DSF resellers will be kicking themselves for letting go pins for $50 thinking that was a great deal. Instant money! How about those early marquee's and Beloved Tales now? Wish you held an extra set?

Can you name a collectible hobby where this isn't the case? Frustrating I'm sure, but part and parcel of collecting things that are limited in supply.

Baseball cards have a book that tells you the value. eBay prices are generally well below those book prices. Each hobby has an established way to value their collectibles. Most have ended up just using eBay because people don't like to personally interact anymore. Pins on the other hand are all about personal interaction, but still have Pinpics T/W, eBay, and the never reference Tomarts guide. Are you always Devils advocate??

You are making a very good point. I understand that people want to trade for equal value but it bugs me when I am trading and the person has to first go into Ebay to see what the going price. It may be listed at a certain price, it doesn't mean it will sell at that price. In this case, these two bidders went totally crazy to get the pin and you are so right. Now it will make that pin even harder to get because of the ridiculous price it sold for. If I see a pin that I really like and want, I don't mind trading in the other person's favor. It's supposed to be fun. All of this high dollar stuff is a bit crazy for me.

You cannot soley blame ebay. Traders are at fault for holding these kinds of pins hostage for so long that they become "impossible" additions to anyone's collection. Therefore when it DOES show up, people are willing to dish out big bucks. Take the Enchanted marquee as well, no one made a thread complaining about it selling for over $1,000. It is just the same as these sorts of tangled pins, they are impossible because we make them impossible. That is how most collector markets are. All parties are to blame for increasing prices, buyers, sellers, and traders alike. It's not fair to basically tell people they shouldn't spend their hard-earned money on something they have saved up for, just so you can have it. You know what I am trying to say? I'm sorry of this makes no sense, I'm posting from my phone haha. I'm not trying to argue, just pointing out a theory of mine. :) I hope you don't take any of this offensively!

Looks like another one just went up with a BIN for $1500 + $5.95 shipping....the shipping always makes me laugh
Like wouldn't you just include shipping for that kind of money! haha

Also don't think I would drop that kind of money with a seller with less than perfect feedback.

So clearly to fund my pin hobby I need to snatch up LE Tangled pins? Please don't lynch me for this, but she's likely my least favorite as princesses go lol.
