Looks Like WDW has cancelled PTNS for near future!!!!
We just wanted to let everyone know that PTN's have NOT been cancelled. This information comes from a friend of ours who works at WDW, and just wanted me to relay that information. They are simply still trying to find a space and date for the next PTN. We agree that it has been a while since the last trade night, but we're sure Disney will not let us down! :-)

yay i want that princess

Okay, I didn't say never :) AND WDW has 5 convention resorts with space and I promise every Friday at every right size ballroom has not been booked at all 5 since December or even the last month. I know, I live here. I go through these resorts all the time. Will they ever have them again? Well I'm pretty sure they will have one in Sept in conjunction with the event. Other than that, it's really up to them. There certainly is space for them to do it. It's whether they want to or not. Disney tends to like vague messages, that's why I was so disappointed to get that answer.

I was at the Fantasyland release. Did not arrive till after everyone had gone inside and lined up. I heard there was pushing and shoving because there was not a formal line. None of the items sold out that day. I sat around and traded till the line died down and got every pin I wanted and went back twice for more. The whole pushing and shoving was unnecessary.
The same thing happened at the WDW 40th anniversary. They didn't have enough people working, and to much merchandise to sell it all. They made us stand in line for hours and nothing sold out.
They closed the event store at 5pm with a line down the block. Poor planning is not pin traders fault.
I wonder if lack of pin trading is just because it is peak season and everyone is working at max hours already?

This was the email I recieved today...
Dear Becki,

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® resort!

At this time, our information shows that the Pin Trading Night's have
been discontinued. It is possible for them to resume at any time, so I
would recommend checking back with us for updates.

If you have any other questions feel free to contact us back!

Sincerely,
Artimas Smith

Could you tell me if pin trading nights at the Contemporary Hotel are
cancelled for good. I understand there is a September event but I was
wondering specifically about the PTN's. There is an email/post going
around saying there will not be anymore.

Thanks

~Becki

Unfortunately I wouldn't worry to much about these email responses from the resort's communication department because sometimes cast members in a different area are not knowledgable on issues going on in a different department then their own. Here is a recent post from Stephen Miller, a merchandise communications manager, in response to a fan's question about PTN's:

@Christopher – Thank you for your comment. I spoke with the merchandise events and trading teams again today. They are continuing their search for available space and a date for another Disney Trading Night at Walt Disney World. I have not (stress “not”) heard of any plans to discontinue trading nights. Once additional information is available, we will update our Disney Parks Merchandise website – http://www.DisneyParksMerchandise.com

Disney will not let the pin trading community down. Yes, things do take time sometimes, but they do appreciate having such a passionate fan base. My advice is everyone should keep there chins up. I'm sure if they are still having them in DLR we will see them continue in WDW.

thanks guys!!!! stevie is worth listening too!!!!

ok so the word is mostly official, not dead , just in ICU, we can visit at a later date, still not happy cuz the Cali folks are getting their second one already, but will lift chin off floor,

Will trade some more,,,,,, and carry on.........

Thanks BTLboys.. I'm staying positive! It was an activity that I shared (and enjoyed) with my 15 yr old daughter. Now I have my 5yr old son who started vinylmations... It is great family hobby Disney style :) Please just start it back up for summer break!

I added contact information in original post in case anyone wants to contact them. Steve Miller is a great guy (know him well) but he isn't on the pin trading team any more and somehow I serioulsy doubt that there hasn't been a SINGLE opening they could have utilized in 5 convention resorts with roughly a total of 100 spaces in 5 months. Seems kinda like the "we don't want them angry, tell them whatever" response. Again, I do think we will have a PTN this year but not soon. Maaaaaaaaybe June where they can show everyone all the cool stuff they can spend lots of money on at the event (you know...before RSPs are due) but I am fairly certain they will still hold the regular PTN we've seen the Thursday before the September event.

My chin is getting pretty worn from dragging along the floor. Maybe I can pick it up just enough to wait for a PTN. They better hurry or I won't have a chin left. :)

Yeah, the truth with all these e-mails and comments from the Disney folks no one is really SAYING anything (typical Disney PR, right?). Even the ones that say the PTNs are discontinued are also saying "But they could return at any time!". And to be frank, as much as I like Steve, the fact that he says it's a space issue automatically has me distrusting his answer. That sounds like a "cover-it-up" line to me...I just flat-out don't believe that they don't have the space for us...

The bottom line is that we've never had a period for so long without a PTN, so either the WDW team can't handle organizing them (They're overwhelmed), or they don't want to.

Neither bodes well for us.

I think this is a case where actions speak louder than words. If PTNs were seen as a vital and an integral part of the current merchandise arsenal, then they would regularly still be going on, without the pin community bugging them about it. The fact that no one really knows anything, "it's not their area", just goes to show how "back-burner" they, and probably pins are. Long-timers remember when there was a dedicated pin person on both coasts, and then it dropped to just Steven, and then Steven was given broader merchandise responsibilities, and since then there hasn't really been a pin person. This is just the next drop down in what position pins really hold within Disney at this time.

Bingo.

They probably realized that they made the same $8 on the $10 OE pin they sell to the tourist/family/casual collector that they do on the $10 LE that they can't make as many of, and they don't have to put the same amount of effort into them.

Personally, I think that's a serious miscalculation- I think any long time collector could stun you with the amount that they spend, and not just on pins (I've had some form of annual pass since 2007, just so the pin event is worth it).

And as I've said before, it's really a shame, because there's ways they could adjust their effort without bailing on us completely, but they would rather just chip at us until there's nothing left.

Steve is a great guy. Knows me by name as I have spoke with him many times. I am gutted to hear he is no longer part of the pin trading team. :(
Thank You for this info jade!
