Honestly I don't see a problem with this method
Increasing edition sizes so everyone has a chance is a nice thought but the it comes with serious side effects. DSF has to be careful about the edition sizes. Many people that buy their pins do so because of the lower edition sizes to use as good traders. An increase in edition size increases supply and the trading power of those pins go down. I know there are at lot of pins I have bought from DSF that I wouldn't have in the edition size was higher, either due to the design or the cost. If they increase the edition sizes and the sales slow down or stop, its not good for them. Granted, it wouldn't be an instant stop but I'm sure there are people people that will decide its not worth the travel time, gas, parking, ect to get those higher edition sizes pins in the long run. Lets be honest, the store doesn't do that much other business and pins keep the store running. The same way that 10 years ago Mickey's of Glendale was always operating at a loss and almost shut down completely before they started their pin sales.
There is no perfect way for them to solve this. What they are doing now is completely broken but what is the right way to fix it that still makes people happy and keeps the store turning a profit....
