Designer Princes has been discussed a lot and the general consensus seems to be that we'd love to have them, but they have maybe a 10% chance at best of happening. I'm referring to Designer Princes by themselves btw. The reason being, if the Villains like Maleficent, Ursula, and Mother Gothel just did okay, how does Disney expect Eric, Phillip, and Adam to sell extremely well on their own without their princesses?
Heck, a lot of people don't even know his name is "Adam" in the first place! Disney Princes were and still aren't the main draw to any of Disney's movies and for that reason, the dolls (which are the main money makers for the Designer sets, the pins are just a bonus but they aren't necessary) would do pretty darn badly since besides diehard Disney fans, casual fans wouldn't really have any interest in princes.
Now as erikr said, Designer Couples has been put on the table quite a few times by cast members and others but that could just be a lie to keep up all guessing because IDK how they would fit 2 Designer Dolls in one doll box and that pin box would be huge lol
I think the most support out of all the ideas has to be the Designer Heroines which are essentially lesser known Disney females that aren't exactly princesses but are quite popular and fairly successful. The leader of the line would be Merida (considering she was just inducted into the Disney Princess line this year, Disney IS going to capitalize on her and they will want to include her in whatever they make. This makes the Designer Couples less likely if "couples" means "princess and prince" because Merida has no princes (yet). Possible contenders on the Designer Heroines line include (in no specific order):
Merida
Esmerelda
Tinker Bell (a Designer Fairies could happen but like Princes, it wouldn't be successful since most of them aren't well-known and fairy collectors are very specific)
Megara
Wendy
Jessica Rabbit
Vanellope (they made Ursula skinny, they can make her tall)
Kida
Anna
Alice
Jane
There could be others I'm not thinking but personally, I'd like to see that.
