New Princess Design
My only critique for the new character design is that they remind of Japanese Manga/Animation, almost all of them have the exact same face. I recall them seeing the revamp in stores around the time of the Cinderella Diamond Edition release...

That's my problem with them, too. They took away most of their individuality. They pretty much all look the same now. Also someone went wayyyy overboard with the airbrush.

I hate the new Cinderella, but I think it's especially egregious what they've done to Pocahontas. They took away the distinctive parts of her features and made her look puffy.

Barf! Don't mess with classic animation.

I feel sad that I won't be able to buy princess merchandise for my kids that looks like the princesses in the movies.

These? If so they're so tacky it's not even funny.
Why oh why do they need to be doing their best "come hither" look?

Perfect side by side example. What are they thinking?? Hopefully not all merchandise will use this imagery.

Is it just me or does it seem that guys just "coincidentally" seem to like the new princesses more than women do? Hmmm there is a huge market for this, just not really in this country. Maybe Disney sees a new market that they have yet to tap...lol

I notice that Snow White and Cinderella have boobs (okay, for Snow it's more like a lighting trick, but still...), even though their true designs show them as flat as Paris Hilton. Cinderella's neckline used to cut straight across, and now it plunges more than Aurora's!

what happened to Mulan's eyes...they give everyone else an anime look, and the asian character gets slits for eyes...wth...talk about going back in time...EPIC FAIL imo disney!

I really despise them, they're all so generic looking and what was the point, to make money, now they have twice as many people to cater to, those of us who like the originals and young girls who have no concept of the originals and just want princess stuff. They're pretty enough but not themselves, they are pre-established characters from animated films, like someone said it's like plastic surgery, they might look fine, but they looked fine before. It all just seems like a money making marketing scheme to me.

I think there's a much older thread on this topic.

Rapunzel and Tiana look very much the same to me, probably because they're the most modern characters, so Disney didn't feel the need to change much. I guess I'm in the minority because I think both Cinderella and Snow White look really cute. (I wouldn't say I prefer these new looks to their old looks, but it's a cute take on their characters.)

However, I despise the way Pocahontas and Mulan look in this line-up. ...

Oh wow! My thoughts exactly. We must be born on the same day or something ;)

Their bodies look a bit more Barbie-esque to me. More voluptous in the chest area - they were not like this before. I think Ariel is one that escaped the unhappy changes, and Rapunzel is not bad either. I also like Cindy (face, not hair) and SW, as well as Belle's hair (but hair only).

My poor beloved Aurora looks like she had some silicon implants and a botched up eye lift :(

So. Much. Glitter.

They absolutely Barbie-fied everyone, same mold, different outfit, different hair. I agree that it'll be really sad if we can't get the original designs on merch anymore... I feel for my future daughters.

Yes, blame us men. Stark difference, yes; is it provacative, debatable. What's sad is that the design is much more conservative than its competition: Monster High, Bratz, Barbie, etc...

They look botoxed, Cinderella is barely recognizable, and I hate all these revamps meant to make these initially endearing characters look like cheap reality show wannabes. I mean, I watched BATB at age 10 and related so much to her bookish, romantic-yet-non-shallow personality it hurts to see her with what looks like horrendous hair extensions and terrible make up job, just to take this example. It standardizes the image of great and very diverse characters towards tall, slender, pretty, glittery, brainwashed barbie dolls when some of these princesses were precisely about the exact opposite of the image of women thus represented (e.g.: Belle, Mulan, Tiana, even Jasmine). It was already the case when the "disney princess" franchise was created, but this revamp made it even worse.

Since the majority of my previous posts were edited, I won't bother trying to say it again. I just think it's awful, overly worked, not what a new generation of girls should be seeing and for what reason? In the case of Mulan and Pocahantus.....it's the worst. P looks deformed and in a fight stance instead of the "pretty, pretty princess" stance lame.

I pretty much agree with most of the comments. They all look plastic and basically have the same face! No individuality and they don't look like they originally did. Rapunzel just looks so out of place with the others though, her face is one of the only ones that does look different amongst them, they all look "sexualized" except Rapunzel, she looks about 10. I hate it when she's "animated". She looks nowhere near as beautiful as she does CGI. I really wish they'd leave her that way.

Belle doesn't look too bad, but I hate what Aurora looks like compared to the original animation.
