There were a lot of updates yesterday on the Pinpics forum. At least it sounded like they were actually working on it tho, they were asking people to stop trying to load it till they announce it's ready since the constant traffic is slowing their progress. Dunno how much substance there is to that claim tho, I'm not an IT person.
I just happened to check their forum late last night on a whim and saw a bunch of the updates posted.

Tried to sign on this afternoon before I read this forum and I got on no problem. Did a search for Darkwing Duck pins and that seemed to work as well. I am going to try and continue reloading pins form when I cleared everything out. Wish me luck!

I am in, still a little wonky but hopefully if all stays well, I can get my pins updated. Thanks everyone, it's good to have a place to vent.

I was getting in periodically, but no luck today. Jumping in the shower and going to the parks. :)

I actually don't know the difference as I am very computer illiterate. I figure I will do the best with what I have, Thank you, Penny

I just tried again and it looks like everything is back (for me anyways). I am downloading all my wants, haves, and collection before I loose it again.

I am not computer literate so I won't be able to do that, so I am plotting along updating what I can. Unfortunately I may have picked up a few things on my wants list when I was down in June. The worst that will happen is I end up with doubles, so that isn't a big deal. I have FL friend who is going to print my list for one of my bags. I am thinking of bringing my laptop so I can update while I am sitting in the back room tomorrow. Have a great night. This has been a nice place to visit while I was freaking out. I think I will come back and visit more often. Thanks,, Penny

I couldn't log in on my phone. So I couldn't check my owns at the Event. On the computer, everything is overlapping and spilling into places it shouldn't be. So there are a lot of kinks left.

Anyone having problems getting into the "Forum" part of the application today? Seems the pin lookup parts are working but I cant get into the Forum.

[QUOTE="What I am proposing is a collaboration between all of the things that are currently out there and pulling all those involved together to move forward. [/QUOTE]

Collaboration in creating a database of pins sounds so exciting. I'm are working on a pin project that isn't like directly the same as these other db projects but access to a central db with an api would be so hopefully. It seems like it would be helpful to be able to create lots of innovative applications instead of always recreating it from scratch.

I would love to be involved in the group to contribute and even be part of the architecture of the db. My husband and I have developed web applications for the past 20 years and would be excited to help.

What are the next steps?

For those of you who want to make a new database be aware... PinPics WILL sue you if they find any pictures from their site in your database, even if they were uploaded by a user.

I was sued by PinPics a few years back and was forced to shut down my database. A few of you here may remember that.

I remember (been around since Figgy & Britt created PinPics).

He is correct. ALL PICTURES MUST BE newly taken originals of the PIN.

Also, be VERY CAREFUL importing Disney issued pictures in case PinPics imports and watermarks the same ones.

my grail of a database would be the ability to take a picture on my phone and have it pop up with the pin it was. Or at least a list of similar pins.

As far as screen scrapping someone else’s site aka Disney’s site and then claiming copyright on that picture oringnal without a watermark. That sounds a bit fishy to me. Especially if it is the public domain.

I could see if another sites picture watermarked shows up with in a new database, but someone taking a screen shot of Disney’s page would be very hard to prove. But I’m not a lawyer. I seem to recall what looks like identical pictures off Disney site announcement pages showing up everywhere from eBay to you name it.
