Do you guys think Rapunzel will be like a record sell-out or do you think I have a chance at midnight (I am on the west coast)? I live 6 hours from a Disney Store, but could try to get a friend to help me out? You guys have so much knowledge and experience. I would really appreciate your advice.

Hmmm, with all the negative feedback that Rapunzel has been getting I don't think it is going to be a record sell-out but I think she will probably sell-out faster than Snow White. I'm going to buy her on the day she comes out. I want to try in-store first and if I don't get picked then I will buy her online.

Now Ariel is another story. I think she will sell-out fast.....

It's hard to say, especially with more eyes pointed toward the DFDC Ariel & Prince Eric set. Rapunzel as a selling machine commands much higher prices through her pins than through her dolls. The Designer pins linked to Tangled always have commanded the highest prices from their respective sets, but their dolls have not. The 2011 Designer Rapunzel sold quickly due to Dollmageddon, but has consistently been selling on the lower end of the price range on eBay, especially when compared to the dolls for Designer Ariel, Designer Aurora, Designer Pocahontas, and Designer Belle. DFDC Rapunzel and Flynn Rider also suffer from that terrible in-box pose, that pretty much only deboxers and hard-core Rapunzel fans will either overcome or overlook. I do think that the sales pattern for DFDC Rapunzel and Flynn will set the tone for the rest of the series.

I agree Shivatopia, it would be nice if these dolls don't get as crazy and they are easy to get. I also think the Rapunzel and Eugene set will also set the tone for the rest of the series (excluding Ariel and Eric, that set I see as being troublesome to get).

I have to say though, the day that I'm dreading the most is October 1!!!! Eric, Ursula and DFDC Belle and Beast all in one day! I'm going to be soooo nervous!!! :anxious:

Thanks for the advice! So I am thinking that if she is not likely to be as crazy as Ariel and Eric, then I should have a reasonable chance of getting her online. I will try not to panic. I imagine that if she sells poorly as Snow has, that the Ebayers will stop buying the set and move on to something else. I was shocked that 6000 LE Ariel dolls sold out in just a few hours....I hope that doesn't happen with the Designer dolls.

I would like to interject here and remind folks that Snow is not necessarily a poor seller or anything like that. We all compare it to dollmageddon, but LE dolls can still be a success for Disney even if they take a week or two to sell out.

It doesn't become an issue until they go on clearance - that is when the company (may) loose some money (I say may because they probably built some discounting room into the price this time after the villains to make sure of a decent profit).

LE Merida & Elinor are still not on clearance, so I would not deem them a failure yet either, just unpopular. I do think Snow & Prince will go faster than them though.

My local DS had Merida & Elinor for 50% off last week.

Well...honestly, I'll bet that when the dolls go on clearance (like maybe the second time), then Disney isn't making a profit, but breaking even.

The reason I love these dolls is because, they are essentially pieces of plastic and fabric...BUT...they are molded, sewn, and painted in to high quality representations of characters that bring forward memories and emotions. (Wow...that was deep, huh?) ;)

I'm super excited for Rapunzel and Flynn, I can't wait to open them up and re-pose them! I decided to do a little re-posing of my Designer Mother Gothel as well, I'm not worried about opening up the case as she is selling for like 35-45 dollars right now, so it wouldn't be difficult to obtain a completely mint replacement if I felt I needed one. I'm usually a MIB collector, but every once in a while I like to mess with my dolls a bit.

I found MG's stock pose to be so unflattering (as many others have also mentioned) so I wanted to give her something more in character without removing any of her fastenings. I found a pose I like - to me it looks like she is doing a slow victory clap for Rapunzel. Like she is saying "well played, Flower" [This pose also totally works with Designer Punzie's sort of smug expression ] Sorry for the dark photos - it is already autumn in Washington 0_o

Much better! It's amazing how such small little adjustments can make such a huge difference! To be honest, the slight change in her arm position would not even affect the doll's value, since no one would even know that the factory didn't originally pose her like this. :) Great job!

Thank you! I used your lovely how-to from a few pages back to get her case back on ;)

I love how she looks next to Rapunzel now, before she was on the bottom tier of my display because I didn't enjoy looking at her. It really makes me confident that I will love Rapunzel and Flynn once get my hands on them and make a few tweaks.

Here is Mother Gothel with the rest of my "favorites" display (Maddie Hatter will be moving off to the side when Rapunzel & Flynn come home so they can be in line with the other Designer Tangled dolls):

I haven't been pleased with how Rapunzel's bang looks on any of the pictures - but on those promo shots I think it looks a lot better. Probably my least favorite of the five sets (although I adore her dress), but I'm definitely going to pick her up. I think it's her face that bothers me (ignoring the horrendous posing) - it's not bad but it's just off for me. Like her irises are too big? Not quite sure what it is |:

While I like some of these couple sets, sadly they're too overpriced for me - especially for not liking the males, sans Flynn and Beast (those two came out pretty good). Seriously debated getting the Tangled set, but in the end were still too high a price to swallow. This got me thinking: what Designer couple set WOULD I pay $140 for? The one that consistently comes to mind is Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas; imagine if they looked something like this! http://taijavigilia.deviantart.com/art/Princess-Sally-269319423 Now that's something I wouldn't hesitate to pick up at that price! Anyone else have some ideas on some amazing-and-worth-$140 couple sets? I'd love to hear them.

I went to the Disney Store today and saw these in person. OMG, amazing. I liked them already but they are so much better in person. I'm not sure if my store fixed Rapunzel's head or not but she didn't look like her head was at a weird angle. It's true you can't see Flynn very well but she's so pretty. Her dress is probably the best of the bunch. But the MUST HAVE was definitely Beast and Belle. I know some people were worried he was too small, but he looks really big compared to her. That set is just really different and special looking. I thought Ariel would be the runaway favorite and for me she's probably almost tied with Rapunzel in terms of her dress and styling (but of course she wins by a little cause she's my fav). Anyway, for anybody having any doubts, I think these are awesome :)

It's funny that you should mention a Designer Jack and Sally set Pirate Princess Ari since that's my dream Designer couple set. I would most like to see a wedding Designer set for them. I think making elaborate versions of them in wedding attire could justify this price point. Plus they never showed them getting married in the film so the designers would have a lot more options. Jack could wear a top hat and Sally could have a beautiful veil and a bouquet of flowers.

Even though I do like this collection, I do think it's overpriced. I think selling it for $100 instead of $130 would have made a huge difference. However I do like the fact that at least so far it has been fairly easy to get these dolls in-store and online. If the price had been lower it might not have been so easy. I definitely think the other couples will sell faster than Snow White and the Prince, so selling them for $130 is probably a good thing since it will dissuade some people from buying them and also make it harder for the sharks to turn a profit.

I've seen all the couple sets in person and I would rank them in this order from my most favorite to least favorite: 1) Ariel & Eric, 2) Snow White & the Prince, 3) Beauty & the Beast, 4) Jasmine & Aladdin, and 5) Rapunzel & Flynn. All of the couples chosen for this collection are favorites of mine except for Snow White and the Prince. However Snow White and the Prince are my second favorite doll set which really shows just how well done they are. This Snow White doll speaks to me in a way that other Snow White dolls never have. I love her hair braided or taken out and styled like in the concept art like some people have done. I just think she is absolutely stunning. Even though the Prince doll's face and hair doesn't actually look like the character's, I'm fine with that since I never cared for the style of the character's design and I think the doll is quite handsome. The only set that I don't really care for is the Rapunzel and Flynn set. I think this set had a lot of potential, but was executed poorly. Even though the case can be opened and the dolls can be repositioned, I think it's just absolutely unacceptable that Rapunzel and Flynn were positioned the way they were. It's the worst I've ever seen and I still can't believe that someone actually approved it. It's particularly unfortunate for those who are not deboxers. I do look forward to seeing what improvements deboxers can make to this set once they get ahold of them. There's also the matter of her blonde "bang". That is completely inaccurate and I'm surprised that the designers made such a mistake. I love all of the detail they put into Rapunzel's dress and braid. I also like that they gave Flynn his satchel and Rapunzel's crown, but the crown looks too cheap to be part of this set. Flynn's expression just creeps me out. There's nothing romantic or sweet about it. With Rapunzel's dress and hair taking up so much space, there really just isn't enough room for both of the dolls to be shown off properly in the case. I really wish they had made the display cases bigger for all of the couple sets, but I think that Rapunzel and Flynn really would have benefitted most of all from having a larger display case so they could both be seen and so it wouldn't look like Rapunzel is more interested in the lantern than she is in Flynn.

I would LOVE a designer Jack and Sally! NBC is one of my favorite Disney movies! I actually really like the Rapunzel set and I am hoping that she will last as long as Snow has. I'm too broke to get her opening week, so hopefullly she'll hang around until I get paid again. If not, I guess I will be at the mercy of evil-bay until one pops up at a reasonable price.

I called the most local Disneystore, the one in Stratford, about the availability of Snowwhite and charming. The girl was very friendly and she even asked me if I wanted them to put one aside for me. To my surprise, I went into the store to pick her up, and I noticed that the Stratford store had an untouched shelf of 16 LE boxes there. Have to say, that I am glad I bought her. Any pictures that circulate on the internet really don't do the prince any justice. He looks mighty fine in real life.
I also decluttered the box of its excessive packaging and given the figures a different pose. All in all, opening the box wasn't as much of a dreaded experience I thought it would be. I still haven't mastered how to get the photo's onto here, I'm affraid. i only get a broken image icon :( but here's a link to the picture of how I posed them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/97928207@N05/9635161165/lightbox/
