2018 Pin Releases

I agree, I think it would be better to have 2 seperate threads, one with the release flyers/info and a other thread to discuss
 
I think the 2019 pin release info thread should be a sticky, but that everyone can post new releases in them? Sometimes someone has the info before anyone else and that way we don't have to wait on the topic starter or a mod to change anything? Just a idea

I have to admit that I pretty much never have pin news to share so not really fair for me to comment here, but this was my thinking as well. Seems like people can post their news on the sticky thread as well as the "regular" thread. And then it's just a matter of all of us having the self control to keep our comments to the latter. That will be the hard part and where a mod might come in to move/remove comments made on the sticky one. That strikes me as the best/easiest way.
 

This is why my suggestion was not 2 threads, but find a way to organize one thread. Because I predict people will forget which thread they are in, only check one thread anyway, "post and run" so they only have "time" to post in the chat thread and "somebody else" can makes sure it ends up in the other thread. And so about April , we're going to be down to everyone posting in the "chat" thread, except Starry Solo trying to keep the "pics only" thread up to date with stuff that hasn't been cross-posted, while trying to moderate the rest of the forum, and keep up PTDB plus all her real life tasks.
 
Can I say that I like it the way it is? Just not having a problem with it, and don't really get the "spoiler" problem. The flyers pop up in other spaces anyway and I use them to decide when to go to Disneyland. Everything seems so integrated here--I think that's why it's generating so much discussion on how to split it. The discussion of pins just belongs with the pictures of said pins. I also don't know what a sticky thread even is.
 
Last year, I probably had to dig 4 or 5 times for older pin release information (it was almost impossible to find whatever detail I was looking for... a few times, if the pin I was seeking was only a few month old, I would actually go to a WDW or DLR pick up thread to find my info.) A thread with basic original pin history (with no comments), which is easy to reference is a wonderful idea. The 2018 release thread we have for 2018 is incredibly useful/helpful for the current information, but it is not useful for going back to review some detail of a release. I think when Pinpics was down in July/August, was when I dug into the 2018 release thread the most. Just based on the July/August experience with Pinpics would be enough of a reason for me to assist with a separate thread. This separate thread would vital for tracking a history of pin information/releases.
 

I just want to see the pins that we are discussing, and someone here was saying that one site would have pics, and the other would have discussion only and no "spoiler" pics. That seems strange to me. I want to see what people are discussing.

I do agree completely with you about the older releases. I still miss the old Disney site that had all unlimited pins as well as limited releases, and an archive of all old pins since the site started. You could type in Halloween and see all Halloween releases for the last 10 years. It was fantastic, and I used it all the time. But that site evolved into the flyer and pin night only site with no unlimited pins and no archive. That site is also defunct now. I was depressed for a long time when we lost Disney's archives. I didn't know why they couldn't have kept it somewhere even if they stopped adding to it. I personally don't believe they are constructing a new site. I wish I knew why it was so much trouble that they stopped so suddenly. I think it must have taken a tremendous amount of time and energy to keep up the old archive they had, and I'm not sure the work of monitoring a thread is anywhere near that amount of work. There was someone on here who was going to build an archive-like site once, but he got a cease and desist letter from pin pics. He was in the process of taking months to construct it. I also use Disney Pin Blog that way now--it has all kinds of releases and keeps them pretty organized. This thread, by the way, was originally started when the old Disney site went down suddenly--2016 I think.

I think that's why the first one was made - the past 2 or 3 years I've made the thread though. I'd see a random pin pop up that would be introduced in the upcoming year in a video Disney would release or something and see that no one would make a mention of it so I'd make the thread for the upcoming year.

I’m really hoping they do a frozen anniversary pin, but with only one month left in 2018 it’s looking unlikely. Fingers crossed tho!
