My question is : How long do you give people to trade?

I sent 5 requests to people. I received an email from Pin Pics
of the user names of the people they would be contacted. It's been a week now and not one person has responded yes or no. What's your general advice on how long you give people to respond to your request? Is there any way they can deny and you see it on your pin pics profile? Because when I click on the link that says: Click here to view your current pending trade request - it says nothing. Yet I have an email showing me the user names it sent an email to. I'm so confused. :( I just want to get trading already.

If they didn't respond, I would just say they are either not interested or they are people who no longer use pinpics. When I do get someone who is interested in one of my trade requests, it usually only takes a day or 2 to get a response. :) Don't give up though, keep on sending requests! And, if you add your pinpics info to your profile here, I am sure people here will trade with you!

That's the thing that sucks about trading on pinpics. Honestly, I'd say less than ten percent of people actually respond. It really sucks. And the current trade requests get deleted at about 4 in the morning.

I will generally say when I receive requests (if you did send one to me under Duffffy) then it'll take me longer than a couple of days to actually respond. I literally have 100s of requests I have to go through so it takes me a few days to even go through my requests. Could you imagine how long it would take me to actually go through and individually look at edition size, etc. It takes me hours. Nevertheless, anyone who usually sends me a requests will more than likely get an answer back stating yes or politely declining.

Yeah, I'd have to say that a response rate of less than 10% is overly optimistic. From my experience, it's more like less than 2% actually respond...

Hi Lily
Welcome to DPF!YEs I hardly ever get responses back...I think its just normal..either they are out of town or it ends in spam folder like alot of mine do
PM sent btw!

I only respond to PinPics trade requests if I am interested in making the proposed trade or working something out. If I am not interested in their proposed trade, I at least try to look at our matching Trades/Wants to see if there are any counteroffers I can propose. If not...the request get's deleted. It's just too time consuming to reply "no thanks" to a ton of people every day. I probably get a 1% reply rate, so I guess I am not the only one. :)

See, I look at it differently. PinPics specifically tells users to reply, even with a no thank you, which I do for a couple of reasons.

1) It shows the trade request actually went through and was received. How many times have we had threads here about no PinPics e-mails for the day?

2) It actually opens a dialogue with the other party in which a counter trade might be worked on if available

3) It's polite to respond, even if with a "No Thank You", or "Thank you, I will have to pass at this time"

4) It shows that my account is still an active trader, instead of one that just gets requests, never responds to anyone, and should be "retired" (removed from the trade equation until activity is detected again) so the trader has an accurate idea who has the pin they want, and the tradee who does not respond does not keep getting e-mail they aren't reading anyway, LOL.

I only respond if I am inteested I get so many lopsided requests I would be all day replying and realy dont have time for that I think the 2% figure is about right but thats the game I still do it and dont mind if people dont reply

The only time I didn't respond was when I got an offer of a hidden Mickey for one of my tangled podms. I was just like: did they honestly believe anyone was going to say yea that that?

Also, make sure you add a healthy list of wants and trades. I have about 200 trades and 500 wants so I get a lot of action. If you only have 10 of each it's gonna be slow going.

I have a question about Pinpics: Is there an easy way to go to a specific person, and offer a pin from their wants? From what I can tell, you have to go to the PIN, and figure out what you can trade away to get that pin. You have no idea what pin you are offering is going to what person until you have sent out the request. I think what I lot of people do, is go though the checklist, and check everything off. I know you can easily view a traders "Want List", but from what I can tell, you can't offer anything specific to a user without emailing them.

I agree with this! My trades/wants lists are in the same number ranges, so I get a steady stream of responses, even if about 75% of those are polite declines.

There was a time, for a few years, when I only responded when agreeing to a trade. I was having a hard time dealing with the anger and frustration of receiving hugely lopsided offers. But I learned to set that aside, at least in part because I know so many traders do not know how to check their pending requests, or don't realize that they should.

So I try to respond to every offer, even to decline. I always check for a potential counter offer by looking at the sender's trader matches to my wants. Sometimes....if I really can't decide how to answer....I may respond as much as a week later.

Don't give up!

This is correct.
