As some of you may have noticed, this morning new rules were posted regarding DPF Guidelines and Policies for the DPF Auction House... As I read through the rules, one cought my eye immediatly...

There are NO Private Auctions Permitted...!!!

I sent a special request to the admin stating that I had promised and committed to a private auction on June 30th, prior to the rules and guidlines ever being established. I stated that I would abide by these guidelines in the future, but had already made this commitment... I received the following response from the DPF team regarding my question and concerns...

[h=2]Re: DPF Auction Rules Question... [/h]
Hi Goofy_Moe:

Thanks for the great question, and for starting something so unique here on DPF! Obviously the community is really enjoying it, and it has definitely made the environment around here more active and enjoyable. A lot of fun things going on!

Unfortunately, in order to sustain a community environment, we felt that we would have to require all auctions be open to every one on the boards. Not including others can create an un-welcoming environment that we'd hate to see happen.

We we appreciate the effort you have made in running your auctions thus far, we felt that we would have to disallow your private auction set for June 30th. We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration, and you are more than welcome to use us as the fallback or blame for the auction being cancelled. Any members are welcome to share their questions or concerns with a site moderator or admin.

As you can imagine... I feel very bad in having to announce that the Private June 30th Auction has to be cancelled so that I do not create an Un-Welcome environment here...

To those of you that have qualified by means of a guessing contest, I will contact you via a PM to get your mailing info so that I can send you something as a prize for winning, as I feel yours was taken away...

To those of you who qualified by means of winning an auction, a few of you stated your excitement about the auction and the fact that your goal in winning was mearly to get into the private auction... I will gladly without question!!! offer you the oportunity to request your trade be returned as it was based on the promise of something special to be included in the future... I will include something special in your return for your hassle if you choose to take this option... Please Do Not Feel Bad For Asking, I Feel Worse for Having To Cancel...

If you have any further questions or coments regarding the Goofy Auction please post them here as it seems my PM box is always full...

Once Again I am Sorry for the inconvience this has caused... It was not at all my intention...

Sincerely,

Goofy_Moe

So sad that the spark to all that is auction madness has been dampened. Goofy_Moe you have started a new craze and thank you for that. I wish they'd let you stay true to your commitment for that private auction as I for sure know I will be taking no offense in not being eligible to bid and do not see it as lessening the community ties.

Goofy - I don't think you really need to cancel it. They said you couldn't run it here - they can't stop you from doing it at all. Rebellion!!! Just joking, but seriously, if you still want to have it you can still do it. I know it would be a pain, but it would just have to be over PM or a mass email where everyone would have to reply to all.

I can see the mods concern over this, and you probably couldn't advertise it here anymore, but that doesn't mean you have to give up. Just my two cents.

I think its so sad that you can't have the auction. It was before the rules were put into place, and no one has voiced any ill feelings for it. I for one do not feel the least bit excluded, because everyone has the opportunity to take part in the daily auctions to win a spot. I hope the MODS reconsider!

Ever think of posting a poll to see if your big auction is making anyone feel unwelcome? If no one feels excluded or unwelcome, then there really shouldn't be a problem hosting the special auction, at least this one time.

Can't you just do a public auction but only select who you want? Like all auctions? What am I missing that is so special about a private auction?

LMFAO I hadn't thought of that, but it would totally work. Can you say loophole! Haha in theory he can make it an open auction, but only choose between the individuals that earned a spot in the "private" auction.

Just do the auction, man. I am pretty disappointed because I know whatever it is you are going to auction is going to be awesome, and I wanted to watch the action, but don't disappoint everyone-- just get their emails and do it there, pretty easy. This is an internet forum. There are rules on the forum, not everyone is going to like them but that is life. You can still do what you want, on your own time. I don't think it's *rebellion*... I think it is just an easy solution to an unusual problem.

Thank you all for the support and kind words... I had still not yet decided on which of the pin collections or packages I was going to put up for the private auction, but I will continue to have my auctions and more likely will just have those items featured on my big weekend auctions...

I had posted about this in the auction rules thread. I was verry disipointed like Marry said I was looking forward 2 watching the auction and seeing what you had planed. It's a shame . I also agree with Mike I don't think there is any "unwelcome" feelings about this and 2 make the MODS happy lets make a pole like Mike said idk... I hope your able 2 have your auction somehow

Maybe instead of auction, you can do it in the regular trading section. The traders can submit offers on your thread or via PM. And you can use the loophole mentioned above.

The rest of us would be deprived of the fun of watching it, but at least you still can honor your promise.

The only tricky part is how to arrange a way for the invited bidders to see each other's bids so they can know who is in the lead.

On a personal note, I wanted to watch your auction, I thought the guessing games were fun and I have absolutely no hard feelings about not participating in the final auction.
