I just noticed that I have the 22nd of November off as well as the following weekend. Would it be completely nuts to drive the 14 hours it would take down to Hollywood to get the Frozen pins? I may just be up for it.
It depends. I imagine the number of people who are going to show up for the Frozen release will set a record. So after all that driving, if you ended up not pulling a low enough number to secure a set, would you be mad?
If you do ccome down do not forget there is a trading night at DLR on the 22nd as well. It might be a worthwhile trip. Just remember, in today's dsf market there are no guarantees and will it be worth the 14 hr one way drive to possibly leave empty handed?
You should think of it economically. You can go on eBay and get a set for $200, or go down pay for gas, food etc… But there is also the joy of going to DSF.
I would do it if I was able but living in Florida it is like a 6 and a half hour plane ride. If nothing else to meet everyone there and trade especially since there will be a pin trading night. You might even get lucky and get a great PTD.
We debated over the same thing (only 6 hour drive for us) and decided with the cost of gas, possible lodging and food, having to obtain childcare, take the day off work, plus the possibility we might go through all that and not get a set anyway, it wasn't worth it.
I can't make it but I think my hubby and sister are gonna try to do it for me. I can only imagine how ridiculous the line will be that day, but I really wish that just once I could make it to one.
Odds of a marquee are decent with 2 people coming. Odds of the rest are less. Odds for a possible surrpise pin could be even less. But I like roadtrips. If I had the time and the money I'd do it.
I have yet to get my day off request approved (have to check to make sure there is enough staffing). Even if I get it off work, I'm going to save myself the trouble and either buy it or trade for it at PTN
It's cray cray. Buy a presale set and you'll actually spend less money than you would on gas AND... what if you don't get a set??? That would be completely TRAGIC.
My husband has made the 18 hour straight drive from San Diego to our hometown in Western Washington twice!!! This is how he does it- couple bags of unsalted sunflower seeds and lots of Gatorade! The action of eating the seeds and having to spit the shells keeps him alert. So it can be done! I'm not anywhere close to being good at long stretches of driving- but I have done eight hours before and I was okay.
Are you going to drive alone? That's no fun! Try to get someone to come with you!
I don't know if it would be worth the cost of gas, wear on the car, and wear on you, just so you can be in town for a day, maybe two if you leave right after work. If you can cram in more activity, I would say try to go to Disneyland, or do some other attraction in town to make it more worth your time and money.
I drove from Dallas, TX to Flagstaff, AZ in one day by myself. I had a 24pack of Mt. Dew and 2 cans of pringles; regular and sour cream & onion. You can do it, but it will be probably $250 in gas.
The 14 hr drive won't bother me. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it. It would be disappointing to drive all that way and end up with no set. So I really have to think about it.
