I see Buy It Now or Best Offer pins quite a bit on Ebay. I've never ventured out and actually offered a best offer.
What have been your experiences? Have any luck?

Do you wait until sale is about to end to offer? How much lower than Buy It Now price have you offered and succeeded?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! :)

If possible, I always make an offer before buying it now. Most times sellers will up their prices a bit when they give a best offer option. I have had some success with it, and other times the seller won't budge. I always find BO's work when the pin has unsuccessfully been relisted multiple times, or when the listing is about to end. Sometimes the seller just wants to get rid of the pin. I say go for it, and you really don't have anything to lose. Sometimes sellers will even counteroffer at a price that is a reasonable middle ground.

Some examples of when it worked:
On a $120, I gave a best offer of $80 and won it.
On a $40, I gave a best offer of $23 and won it.

Sometimes it works some times it doesn't. One time I offered 14 on a pin that was 17.50, which I find completely reasonable, they mailed back their counter offer of 17.41! Seriously? Why would they even bother paying extra to add best offer to their listing? :(

I usually will do best offer at 70% of the asking price or so. Sometimes they accept, sometimes they don't.

I have a store on eBay and used to have best offer on several listings. I've received some absolutely ridiculous offers. Like $4 on a pin which consistently sells for $25-$30 (with free shipping, so after PayPal and eBay fees, I would have been left with about $1, lol). Usually offers that I got would be around 75-80% of the BIN price, and I generally would accept them.

Also, don't wait until the end to offer... someone else may jump in and grab it before you. The seller can either accept, decline or counter... but you'll never be out more than you want.

Yes, i was on ebay alot for a while there and became very well versed in what certain pins were averaging. I find the buy it now/best offer listings are almost always above the normal selling price by almost 30%-40% so i make an offer and i was averaging about a 90% acceptance rate. Never got a nasty or stupid counteroffer, and if I did WHO CARES. I wasnt low balling them they were above market.

I always use the best offer feature if it's available. I don't remember exact prices but sometimes it's saved me only a few dollars and other times a chunk of money. I think it's always worth it, as long as you're being reasonable :) it never hurts!

Ooops, I didn't mean that I always wait til the listing is about to end to best offer! If it is a pin I really want, I immediately best offer so that someone else won't get it before me. But if its a seller that I know won't budge, or that sets ridiculously high prices, I may wait til the end. Hope that clarifies.

So far what I have noticed is that the seller has an auto decline for a certain amount under the sell amount.

ie: Buy it now: $35.00
auto decline in the settings for anything under 29.00.... So you send a BO of 25.00 it says no without the seller even seeing it. You offer 29.01 at seller sees offer. Some decline, some accept. I accepted a best offer for one of my pins for sale the other day because it was a relist anyway. If it had been a first time listing, i would have declined.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I have learned so much!

I made two offers last night. I woke up this morning to find out that one was accepted--the other wasn't declined, still waiting.

The buy it now price was $22 and I offered $15. SWEET! :)

I see many more best offers in my future!

I sell with best offer often. If you want to save a buck or two most likely the seller will automatically have eBay accept an offer that is just below their price. ie. if it's a $25 pin, you can offer $23 and win it right away. Then I usually put auto decline on anything under, say $15.

I've had a mixed amour of success, bunt have also hit the jackpot too when they have the autoaccept working. I got one of my Pirates grails this way for about the 1/3 of the normal going price.
