Disney Store Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion - 2016
I was so excited for Moana and I just feel like meh. It's pretty but I don't feel the wow factor.

Considering that this just a tease and not a full picture, and not representative of the final doll, I expect that the doll will look better than that. This is just another case of Disney rushing out a mediocre reveal photo. I thought they were finally going to fix that problem after seeing how beautiful the Belle doll looked.

Literally just looks like the basic doll with some extra stuff tacked on. I'm starting to see why these are declining in popularity...

i dont think I like her..her hair is gorgeous though....im having second thoughts on buying her..and the edition size is not helping either...

Just so you all know, she does have her necklace, Pua and Hei Hei, and several more details that this picture doesn't show like her sandy feet and the leaves she has around her ankles. Trust me, she will look a lot nicer in person and hopefully in future pictures. I dunno why Disney would release a rushed photo like this considering it only hurts them. They get so much buzz when the reveal photo is actually nice and well thought out like the Belle photo.

This picture is missing at least the necklace accessory. Just wait until better pictures come out.

So you think the doll will actually have the necklace? I hope so, I was disappointed to see she's missing it -- her neck looks rather plain with just those plastic straps. Overall though, I'm sure she will be more impressive in person.

I'm surprised by the December release date -- don't they usually release them on the day the movie is released? Although this is better in a way -- people can find out if they like the movie and the characters first before getting the doll.

oh I see...moana doll is coming out December instead of November..thats nice...if I like the movie maybe ill get it..but just maybe...so far I don't like what im seeing...but I guess they are always better in person...

Totally agree ^ I'm also curious as to why the higher number? Usually it's 5,000. Interesting move Disney! I'm so happy I don't have to spend money on a doll BEFORE I see the movie!

you mean just moana or the limited doll in general? thanks

I meant Moana looks like the basic doll with just a few extra accessories and such, and as for the declining in popularity thing, limited edition dolls in general. Pretty much all of the recent sets have failed to sell out like the sets used to, and some have even went on clearance. Maybe it's the quality, maybe it's just Disney making too many sets a year, but either way, there's no denying that these limited edition dolls aren't selling like they did just a few years ago.

Does she only have one arm band?

I like the doll, but unless the price goes back down, I don't really think she'll be worth it for me at LE prices, even if the box and movie are very good.

I'm also in the possible minority that doesn't really find the pig and chicken that cute (I assume those are going to be her boxmates, I don't recognize them by their names at this point). If she had had her boat, that would've been a lot more awesome to me. And more worth the current LE price.

Yeah... here in Canada they cost a whopping $150 now, and nothing about this doll looks worth that. I had such high hopes when we saw the singing doll - So pretty! So many details! So much opportunity for embellishment! - but visually this is a big downgrade. And I've seen the pictures that show the rest of the doll (though why people thought being able to see past her knees would make such a big difference...?), two chunks of plastic around her ankles aren't going to be a game changer for me :/ Neither are her sidekicks, who are molded together into one large statue offering no playability or posability at all. Lame Disney, lame.

I wish the movie well, and the merch along with it, but I kinda hope this doll ends up on sale like AttLG did. I don't think I could justify the purchase otherwise.

I'm SO looking forward to Moana, and I probably wouldn't be able to get her LE doll anyway, but she really doesn't look that much different from the classic Moana on the Disney Store site to me. I don't know. She's pretty, but she doesn't look extra fancy/expensive like (in my opinion) she should since she's a LE doll.

I agree. Nothing about this doll looks particularly bad, but nothing about it looks particularly good or special either. Not worth limited edition price at all, unless the hype/popularity for Moana gets to be super huge, I can see this doll going on clearance pretty fast. Very disappointing honestly, I was expecting something really nice but all we got is the basic doll with some extra stuff thrown on top of it. And yeah yeah I know the outfit is made of the nicer more accurate material but still...there's really nothing about any part of this doll that looks fancy at all. They could have at least gave her rooted eyelashes or something.

It really does suck though, because if this fails too, like some other recent sets/dolls have, I can easily see it being one of the final nails in the coffin for limited edition dolls, which brings my hopes of getting some non princess (or super popular like Alice or Tinkerbell) characters like Esmeralda or Megara way down. Sigh.

This. There is NO WAY I would pay LE price for this doll even if I did have the money, to be honest. I could get singing Elsa AND classic Moana, both of which I also want, and have money left over, lol. :P This doll does look pretty, but she doesn't look worth her price. The thing with the hype/popularity stuff is just...it doesn't change the original item any; it's like SQ Elsa (except I think SQ Elsa is actually worth her original price and then some). SQ Elsa is NOT worth the insane prices on ebay; she's still the same doll she was when Disney sold her. Yes, I know the "it's what the market will bear" and all, but still.

On a happier note, maybe LE Moana will look better once she's released. I hope so anyways. :)

I really don't see anything wrong with the doll... she's kind of what I expected we'd get. I love the details of the water on her skirt, and although I can't say I am completely wowed by the photos, I'm holding judgement until I see her in person. I'm also glad I'll have a chance to see the movie first!

I do think Disney is crazy making her a limited edition of 6500. They must have a LOT of confidence in this movie! Even well-loved classic characters like Belle only get 5000. That doesn't make any sense to me.

I think its because they release too much dolls and in this year they did it in 3 consecutive months...people eventually had to choose which to purchase... maybe people were disappointed with moana because her classic doll looks so gorgeous that thy expected her LE version to exceed that...apparently not...

Agreed, they put too many out this year.

We had:
LA Alice & the Looking Glass: Alice, Iracebeth, and Alice/MH platinum set @ $119.95 / $750
BATB: Belle, Beast, Gaston, Belle & Beast platinum set @ $119.95 / $750
Designer Heroes vs. Villains #2: Cinderella/Tremaine, Belle/Gaston, Alice/Queen of Hearts, Aurora/Maleficent @ $129.95 each
Moana @ $119.95

So, even just getting these at retail and not including tax, it comes out to $2739.50 just on dolls...that's a lot of $ to spend

Oh and don't forget Designer Minnie last January. I think she was around 85$?

Wasn't last year worse though in terms of doll releases? I felt like 2015 had a lot of dolls released although granted it was also an expo year...

Considering she's not a gown princess and her LE is so high, I can't see her selling out anytime soon. I really love her, but considering the Alice dolls went on clearance, I might wait a bit for this one. Her LE is 65% higher after all, and no matter how loved the movie is, I don't think every collector will want her due to her costume and lack of eyelashes / glamor. 4,000 might've been high for her.

wow thats too much money! Imagine paying that amount every year...

I thought last year was a LOT worse in terms of doll releases. There was so many dolls released last year what with Disney taking advantage of it being an expo year and all. Yeah we certainly have had quite a few this year as well, but I don't think its been nearly as bad or as crowded as 2015 was. Not to mention that most of the releases have been pretty quiet by comparison, with the Beauty and the Beast dolls being the only really popular dolls released thus far.

And Moana is growing on me more and more. Again, a lot of details are missing from that original photo which will probably make a huge difference for most people when we get more pictures and see her in person.
