DisneyStore.com Sneak Peeks & New Releases
Looks like Disney added a bunch of individual pins. We don't want to group most of them just yet, though how we can see how a few can be part of a series. We'll move pins around as more information is added their product pages.

sweet!

That Grasshopper and the Ants pin is likely based on the Silly Symphony short, not a Bug's Life.

It is nice to see pins based on the live action films. And a Walt Disney pin? neat.

Wow - not the typical characters! No Tink, Jessica, and almost no Stitch?

Almost everything is Walt-era, love the Silly Symphonies- but doubt these will sell.

Exactly. Everyone says they want more character variety, but when it comes right down to it, what people really want are pins of Stitch, Jessica, and Tinkerbell.

I don't agree completely with that. What about other Disney characters? We don't often see the Princes or other favorite supporting characters.

Right. They release pins of Jessica, Stitch and TinkerBell because they sell.

All other characters have their fans and people do buy them. But those pins will usually not sell out until the pin sale. Look at the most popular DS.com pins from last year. Look at the ones that sold out in less than an hour and had people panicing. For the most part they were Jessica and TinkerBell pins. Obviously not all Jessica and Tinks sold out quickly and some lasted until the sales.

Should Disney have character variety in pins? Yes.
Would better quality designs help sell more pins? Yes.
But when it comes right down to it, those 3 characters sale. And that is why we see so many pins of those characters.

If they continue to bombard us with Jess, Tink, and Stitch pins then they should at least start using original artwork instead of stock images. A lot of 3 pin Tink/Stitch sets didn't sell out until sale because they all looked plain boring with the same pose.

No argument here.

Disney Store's #1 problem, IMHO, is the reusing of art. Two of my favorite Jessicas from last year were from the Portrait series and Ink series. New art helps a lot.

But I think (and what possibly Gillian was getting at) is that there are other characters that could be just as successful but they aren't making them. They are branching out and bringing variety but with poor execution. I mean....not many people are going to want an Oswald pin. But a well done Sleeping Beauty, UP, or Tangled pin? Those would sell just as well as the "Big 3". Or what about the new Toy Story 3 characters.....maybe there is a reason they don't do more Pixar.....but it sure would be nice if they would.

Well, well made pins could sell better than a poorly made pin of the big three. Heck well made pins sell period. One of the sets that did sell really well last year was the LE100 Up set.

It is all together possible that other characters might sell. But would they sell as well as the big 3? Obviously with the pins that we have found sneak peeks for, Disney is trying to branch out to other characters. If those sell well, we may see other characters. Time will tell.

It looks like some fun new stuff - Robin hood --cool!! Some random like shaggy dog. Looks like happy dance time for Bambi/thumper fans!
