DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion
Wow, i had no idea that it wasn't a true listing. Now i hope it wasn't a collector, how disappointing.

One of the people on a FB page bought the Tiana doll, and she said she received the message that her daughter wanted to keep it... And then posted again with the real news that she was messaged the real value by other people. I just saw a Snow listing for 1100 and I'm pretty sure that's the doll that was supposed to sell for $75.
I'm sure that there is another doll that sold for 1100 the other day that was just relisted. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. I personally think they want more money. Which is really greedy, unless you are just trying to recoup what you paid for it. They also listed it at $100 less than they did last time as well. These Disney things really bring out some really deplorable behavior in people.

If the buyer complains they can get banned from Ebay for cancelling for no good reason other than they realised they could get more....

They would cancel the order by selecting 'Item No Longer available' then they get rid of the punishment... I encountered this once and I was so mad about it.

You can still report that to eBay. It's not allowed. eBay isn't stupid :)

On the one hand I would think "SCAM" because the seller literally JUST created his/her eBay account on July 15th. I've sold several things on eBay myself but I only just started doing that last year while I've have my account since 2006. eBay is one of those places online where if you're online you probably have an account, much like PayPal, YouTube, Facebook, etc. So, I would have a difficult time trusting someone so new, selling something so valuable, for such a little amount. I too feel sort of bad for the seller and their doofus move of listing those dolls for so little, but then I think "when I sell stuff on eBay I ALWAYS research the item for how much it might be worth". I always check completed listings to see the going rate. In the case where there are no completed listings for exactly what I'm selling I do Google searches for how much the item might sell for at retail. For example, I got this pair of wireless headphones for free that my dad won at an office Christmas party but he didn't want them, I didn't want them, so I threw them on eBay. They go for $59.99USD at retail, I listed them at $25CDN starting bid and sold them for that price. Why would you not research this stuff prior to putting up a listing? Especially for Disneyana which almost ALWAYS increases in value when you know the item is LE 5,000 to begin with?

I only feel sorry for the buyer if it was a true collector. There's no way of knowing what the buyer's intentions were. Odds are better it was someone who would turn around and sell the dolls for 10-20x the price than a collector. And, let's be honest, even a collector who already had Snow would snatch her up at that price and sell her for more or attempt to trader her for a doll they might be missing. That is a deal too good to pass up.

Anyway, even if that seller receives negative feedback for cancelling the purchase, they had a score of ONE, and their account is less than two weeks old. They will probably just close that eBay account and make a new one with a new email address and boom, back to having a 100% feedback score. Only this time they'll throw an extra 0 or more on both those doll's prices.

I thought the same thing about it being a scam after I posted a reply looked into it a little closer, and for the same reasons. It could be someone was that foolish (especially if they're new to Ebay), but I kind of doubt it. I hate being cynical as there are reasons this could happen, but there are just so many scams out there. I have a hard time believing someone wouldn't do a search, or when they went to list and were given title suggestions by Ebay they would ignore them or not look it up. You'd think someone that unfamiliar with Ebay would just put an ad in the paper.

A few months ago someone put up an auction for SQ Elsa and Anna for $1. I thought it was just to get attention since a lot sellers do that and then put a reserve on the item. But no, he/she had noted that the dolls weren't actually for auction through Ebay. You had to contact her directly through her personal email, and she would only accept PayPal as "both buyer and seller would be protected." This was a seller with several hundred good ratings and had been around quite a while. It sounded like a total scam to get out of paying Ebay's fees, if not to scam someone out of money. So, when I read everything about the Snow White doll I thought that's an easy way to get out paying Ebay fees without looking too shady like the the SQ Elsa seller and still getting more than an ad in the paper would get, or getting the listing removed right away. A lot of people probably did contact the seller about it and it'd be pretty easy to make arrangements for direct payment and keep up the naive act.

I could be way off. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and I really try not to be negative, but this just seems off.

Yikes, that's crazy. My two cents as a collector is that if I were to ever sell any of my dolls, I just don't think I could sell for them for thousands - experiencing the secondary market makes me more sympathetic, assuming I'm selling to a true collector. Of course I'd want to make some money, but I don't think I would go over $400-500. To me, the recent inflation by scalpers is just disgusting.

from the 11th august, the disney store Europe will sell the disney store pin's on tuesday instead of thursday... Yeah... Same day as the tsum tsum, the Limited dolls, designers dolls... It's not a joke. Disney store loves to torture us.

That's madness. Especially with that crappy server. Ugh! :/

Is anyone else surprised there was no official announcement about Jasmine today? It's been forever since they put up the one promo picture and now, and unless something changes she's still getting released on Tuesday/Wednesday. :(

Yeah I was expecting to see at least a few more pictures today or something :(. We will probably get some information tomorrow seeing the doll comes out next week. This lack of information and updates is killing me lol. I need to see some pictures of her ASAP. I am starting to have my doubts about picking her up, so I need to see some more pics of her and her box so I can decide if she is still worth getting.

It makes me a bit nervous to see how disneys handled the last couple releases. no info until the release is like right on top of us and worst of all no pictures or announcment on the disney buzz site? very curious as to why the 17" jasmine wasnt put on there.

Quick question everybody! When someone pre-orders one of these LE dolls online, is the money put back in their account afterwards and then withdrawn permanently when the item ships? I've actually never done a pre-order before and have heard some people say this, but want to make sure they're right for my own peace of mind. :)

I believe that's how it goes. Disney takes the money out of your account temporarily after you pre-order, and then they put it right back in. Then, once the item is ready to ship, they take your money out again.

I'm getting Jasmine for my sister for her birthday (her fave princess) and I'm really upset that DS hasn't hyped her AT ALL. No blog post, not even box pictures. I mean, we get more info on surprise release dolls at this late stage than we have for Jasmine this time around! Are they letting this line die? Its really really weird that they aren't doing a thing for her. And not to mention, she's the first doll of color since Tiana. One can only infer from this silence...

She's also one of the very popular original princesses. It's disgraceful. Cinderella (who I admit is very beautiful) was from a live action adaption that will be forgotten in a few years time, but she got way more publicity AND a special LE500 doll! Jasmine is a classic princess. Up your game Disney.

Jasmine is not as popular as Ariel and Elsa. Yes, she's the most popular non-white princess, but she's not as popular as the other princesses. Disney store hyping her up has nothing to do with her ethnicity, so stop trying to stir trouble :p

As for the Cinderella comparison, if you stop thinking with your heart and start thinking from a business and marketing point of view, you'll see that it's merely one of the final marketing pushes for the movie's release in theaters. Also, you say that Cinderella got a $500 doll, but I can guarantee you that 99.9%, if not 100%, of the collectors here don't want to see something like that again.

Also, I'd say that Disney thinks this line is so popular that they don't need to remind people that the doll is coming out, and honestly, if you don't know that the doll is coming out in the beginning of August, then you shouldn't be getting her. Besides, less hype means that it'll be easier for collectors to buy the doll.

And one last thing, Jasmine is getting a doll. Y'all need to stop complaining about the lack of diversity in this line. Disney will get to the other princesses, but it's hard for them to do that when nobody buys the LE Pocahontas and Mulan dolls. In fact, all the ethnic princesses last year were discounted and several made it back to the shelves weeks after the release date. So maybe Disney isn't at fault for not making dolls of the ethnic princesses.

Personally, I blame the film makers. We have white princesses that have a magical dress change, a mermaid, a phenomenal ballroom scene, a princesses with long blonde hair, and an amazing show stopping full of magic empowering song (Elsa). While the ethnic princesses are stuck with non- magic stuff. I mean, a girl at the age of 5 or 6 isn't going to want to sing about nature or join the army, most want to relive the magic of the movies. Let's hope Moana can change this! :)

I have to agree with the above.

I know now people like seeing pictures of the doll beforehand but to be honest I'm kind of glad we've not seen endless images of her because it will make it easier for me to buy her for my collection. Do Disney really need to pull out all the stops to market this doll when they know she will sell out? Look at the increase of collectors since Frozen & Cinderella dolls were released....they want to keep this cash cow going for as long as possible.

So yeah I'm glad about the lack of buzz from them because hopefully it will keep some of the scalpers away so I can get 1 of the 500 in Europe.

Is a store display Ariel worth $400? I'm really torn on buying one... The literal only negative side is no CoA...

100% agree with this.

After giving it some more thought again, I am probably not going to go for Jasmine right now. That could change after I see her in her box (I am insanely indecisive lol), but for now I think I am going to skip on her pre-order. I don't think she will go for too much on the secondary market, so I think I can get her later on for a decent price. I might still try to go for Aladdin or Jafar on their release day if they turn out great, but I think I can wait on Jasmine. This gives me the chance to save up for other things coming out in the next few months like more Aladdin merch, the designer collection, and non-Disney related things.

I would say only half the going price is what is constant on Ebay for those dolls. So, around $200 should be fair. I dunno, I have a big moral issue with selling display dolls and the company. If you take in to account that display dolls shouldn't be sold in the first place, they were given to the cast members for free...
