DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion
Jasmine is not as popular as Ariel and Elsa. Yes, she's the most popular non-white princess, but she's not as popular as the other princesses. Disney store hyping her up has nothing to do with her ethnicity, so stop trying to stir trouble :p

As for the Cinderella comparison, if you stop thinking with your heart and start thinking from a business and marketing point of view, you'll see that it's merely one of the final marketing pushes for the movie's release in theaters. Also, you say that Cinderella got a $500 doll, but I can guarantee you that 99.9%, if not 100%, of the collectors here don't want to see something like that again.

Also, I'd say that Disney thinks this line is so popular that they don't need to remind people that the doll is coming out, and honestly, if you don't know that the doll is coming out in the beginning of August, then you shouldn't be getting her. Besides, less hype means that it'll be easier for collectors to buy the doll.

And one last thing, Jasmine is getting a doll. Y'all need to stop complaining about the lack of diversity in this line. Disney will get to the other princesses, but it's hard for them to do that when nobody buys the LE Pocahontas and Mulan dolls. In fact, all the ethnic princesses last year were discounted and several made it back to the shelves weeks after the release date. So maybe Disney isn't at fault for not making dolls of the ethnic princesses.

Personally, I blame the film makers. We have white princesses that have a magical dress change, a mermaid, a phenomenal ballroom scene, a princesses with long blonde hair, and an amazing show stopping full of magic empowering song (Elsa). While the ethnic princesses are stuck with non- magic stuff. I mean, a girl at the age of 5 or 6 isn't going to want to sing about nature or join the army, most want to relive the magic of the movies. Let's hope Moana can change this! :)

Honestly, I don't think their "unpopularity" is why they didn't sell last year, I think it was because DFDC part 2 was a rather underwhelming and bland set all together (with the exception of Cinderella and Aurora) in my opinion. Had the designers put some effort into last year's set maybe then the princesses of color would've sold out.

It had everything to do with popularity. The march frozen dolls were hated by everybody, yet they sold out in less than 20 minutes.

The designers did put effort into last year's designs. Pocahontas and Mulan had really well made dresses, but not that many people like them, so they didn't make them. If they do 17" dolls, they would sell out because of scalpers and completists, not because of people liking them.

I would certainly buy a 17" Pocahontas ;). But I would never buy a Mulan doll. The movie was really good, but I just don't like Mulan that much :/

I would buy a Mulan doll in a heartbeat. I don't really expect Disney to make a doll of her anytime soon, if ever, but man would I love one. Mulan is one of my favorite Disney films, and Mulan herself is one of my favorite Disney princesses. As for Pocahontas, I can live without owning one, but I do want her to get a 17" doll seeing both her and Mulan are the only princesses in the line that don't have a doll yet. I'd probably buy her for my mom seeing my mom like her more than I do.

I can't believe the Jasmine preorder is tomorrow, and we haven't gotten any more photos or a post about it on the Disney Store blog. Weird.

I know, it's extremely strange for Disney not to give us more than one picture like this. I hope everything still goes well with the orders tomorrow and Wednesday.

I'm pretty sure the releases will go slower than normal. It'll take a couple days for it to sell out judging by the reception on the internet. I'm not even sure scalpers will try to get this release, because they won't be able to make a quick buck off it.

We had multiple pictures, a blog post, and even a video last year for Pink Aurora's preorder. All Jasmine has gotten so far is one measly picture. Is Disney just not going to make an official announcement with information and more pictures, and instead let the collectors share info on the release and have any casual buyers outside of the collector's circle stay in the dark about what's going on?

Honestly, I don't even know why scalpers bother anymore. New releases sell out immediately and within a couple of hours eBay is flooded with literally hundreds of them. The last couple of dolls released barely go for retail and, with fees and such, many of these scalpers have probably lost money. They need to realize that the initial Frozen dolls were an anomaly and something like that is probably not going to happen again. Very limited, harder to get exclusives of 300-500 LE will probably still sell well in the second hand-market, but dolls with 5000 LE more than likely will not. These newer dolls may eventually sell for a profit but only if scalpers are willing to wait several years. However, most seem under the delusion they are going to turn around a new doll in 24 hours and make a huge profit.

Agree with this 100%. I think that's why you see these 17 inch dolls go for so much money at first, but then their prices lower significantly in the following weeks of their release (I am referring to the Sleeping Beauty dolls in particular). Disney is one of the most popular brands in the world, but Frozen is an entirely different beast when compared to some of their other characters and films. Scalper's begin to realize that the other 17" characters just aren't going to sell as well as Anna and Elsa do regardless of popularity, so they lower the ludicrous prices that they ask for at first. That is why I am not really concerned with getting Jasmine day one, because if I end up liking her a lot, I can always go for her on the secondary market after she is released. This lack of hype or pictures, while somewhat annoying, certainly helps in that regard.

Thanks to Instagram (photo cred in the photo), we have a first look of what Jasmine is going to look like in the box! & for everyone who was complaining about her shiny skin, it doesn't show here & I can guaranteed that in person, she's going to look mighty beautiful! I seriously can't wait. I'll be there around 6:30 am at the store tomorrow :D

She looks pretty, but her skin color blends with the background too much. She's alright but I won't be getting her, she had so much potential.

Oh wow she looks wonderful! Her skin looks so much better here too! I think her background should have had more color to it, but its still very nice! Looks like I will be going for her on the secondary market after all :D.

She looks even more gorgeous than I expected. Jasmine is my favorite princess and I will definitely be up early in the morning Wednesday for the preorder. What time does the website update on Wednesday?

She's looks so much better than that promo picture! I really am having such a hard time skipping out on her but I know I'd much rather have red Jasmine. She's absolutely gorgeous though and Disney has definitely upped there game.

Not a big fan of the box. It looks very similar to Anna's SP15 design... Also, i think the background is just too much... The color is way off and too bright.. Maybe it's just in the image...
