DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion
Surprised no one has mentioned this here, but Radio Disney Club revealed some new info on the wedding platinum set. It will be LE 250, and the box will be similar to the wedding Cinderella doll box where it has two flaps that open up to reveal the doll inside. It will also have green, blue and gold coloring on the box similar to the Art of Jasmine merch. Its apparently scheduled to release the same day as the Diamond Edition, but other sources say the release date is November 11th, which is the 23rd anniversary of Aladdin. Remember that all of this is still a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. Even though I don't plan on buying it (even if I wanted to, I can't afford it and its probably gonna sell out really fast anyways), I am really interested to see what it looks like. I bet its going to be gorgeous!

We also got some really nice pictures of Aladdin! I think he is going to look fantastic in person.

Yikes! 250 LE? ---that's even smaller than I thought it would be. The only way I'd consider going for it is if the set is absolutely, breathtakingly, knock-me down gorgeous. I hope they come out with photos before the release. The coloring of the box like the Art of Jasmine is intriguing--that could be very beautiful. But wow, that is a lot of money. Going to be nearly impossible to get anyways.

As for Aladdin, I don't mind the outfit, but I can't stand his goofy expression and his hair could have been just a little trimmer. Will probably get him anyway just to complete the set as I have the two Jasmines and I do like Jafar. I feel like I kind of have to get Aladdin if I'm getting the rest of them since he is the title character and all.

Honestly, while I really do want Aladdin, my opinions on him seem to constantly shift depending on what picture I look at. One picture makes him look bland, and another one with different lighting at a different angle makes him look great. I think it comes down to his hair and his position in his box. I usually don't debox dolls, but I think I will change his pose in his box and give him a small trim. I think that will solve the problem. I also don't think I am ever going to stop complaining about him not having the lamp LOL! Anyone know any lamps from previous dolls that would work well with his scale?

I think alladin's hair looks fine, I think it's because of all the gel that they used it gives it a sharper look. And as for deboxing dolls, i can only last a week before I take a doll out of its box! I've thought that I won't truly enjoy these dolls in their boxes, and someday we all die and what will it matter in the end? Oh well, to answer your question about the lamp, didn't the new singing Jasmine doll come with a magic lamp, if it did it might be a tad bit too small.

I'm getting kinda nervous for the Aladdin release day. While I'm confident in my chances at obtaining a doll at my store (due to both Aladdin's popularity and the fact that my store is located in a mall with strict rules about what time lines are allowed to start forming), I'm not completely sure I'm gonna be able to make it to my store that day! My mom's been sick lately, so if I have to drive her to a doctor's appointment, then I'm probably gonna miss out, which means the only shot I'll have is online and I hate limiting myself to that kind of possibility. Sure, I've done online purchases for these dolls, but only as either a last resort (17" dolls) or a precaution (Designer Dolls). Granted, my mom's heath comes first and foremost, so if I have to do it that way, fine, but it's still stressing me out and the last thing I need is MORE stress, ya know? Darn it, Disney! Grr! Arg!

I like to keep mine boxed personally because I just like keeping them in the best possible shape and they tend to look fine as they are. Most of the dolls are posed well enough that I don't really feel the need to unbox them and mess around with them. Not to mention that it protects them more and keeps things like dust out for the most part. Aladdin is one of the only ones to date where I feel like I need to move him around a bit. I get why they posed him like that, but it just looks so off in all the pictures I have seen of him so far. As for the lamp, the one from the singing Jasmine doll is too small unfortunately. I have been looking for some on eBay and have found quite a few, but I don't know if any of them are to scale.

If I could, I would buy a doll to keep in the box, and one to take out, but since my dolls are in my room, space is limited. The only place I can display these dolls is on my dresser, and I only have room for one more; but if and when they make another le Snow White, and le Belle, then in the words of Drizella Tremaine," I'll make it fit!" Lol!

They look very lovely deboxed! Especially Ella where it allows her dress to poof out more. I just prefer to keep mine in their boxes, but I totally understand wanting to debox them and the bit about the space issue. I have Maleficent in the very corner of my room, and I have absolutely no idea where Aladdin is gonna go when I get him. Same for the designer dolls. I need to get some more shelves soon lol!

I know exactly what you mean ... I'm suppose to be getting the three dolls one week from now & space is getting ... Well I'll let the pictures do the talking.

For his pose, I'm on the same page as you when it comes to leaving the dolls in their boxes as they're literally perfect the way they look & it'll be authentic once years come by. His hair isn't actually too bad cause it's actually the correct length. It just needs to be style more & it would look movie accurate! Now I'm with on the lamp situation & that Disney totally missed that opportunity to use as a prop. Like come on Disney, if you weren't gonna do a Genie doll, at least give Aladdin the lamp to represent some Genie. I was almost ready to cut off my statuette of Aladdin holding the lamp & give it to my Aladdin doll but it looks like it would still be too small for it.

A lot of people don't seem to want Aladdin, and with Jafar's lower edition size more people may try to get him first, so Al may not sell out as fast online.

Hope your mom feels better soon!

I am totally green when it comes to buying Disney's limited edition dolls, and was wondering how to go about placing a pre-order for the Frozen Fever dolls. Any help/tips/insight from all you experts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your concern, janeckb! She's doing all right, it's just been a rough couple of months. And, yeah, I'm definitely hoping that Aladdin won't sell out as fast as some of the other 17" dolls, especially based on how the other male dolls have stuck around for awhile. I originally thought it would be different with Aladdin, as he's technically the main character of his film, not just the love interest of the princess, but that doesn't seem to be making much of a difference.

Ali, I can't help but get a little jealous every time you share your wonderful collection XD (ESPECIALLY where you have the Slave Jasmine doll, who has become a grail for me recently). But yeah I totally see your predicament. My main problem is that I have no shelves in my room, so most of my collectibles are in boxes that I keep at the foot of my bed and in my closet. Its starting to become a ridiculous pile, so I think I am finally gonna get some shelves before the end of the year so I can display everything properly.

Good points about his hair! I might just have to wash it out and style it a little better. It doesn't look terrible, but I would like it to be just a little more movie accurate. I have also been stalking eBay for almost two weeks now looking for a doll lamp that would suit his size, but I can't find anything. Everything is either a life sized replica or too small :(. And I think the lamp on your figurine would probably work, but I wouldn't damage a figure like that. I am HOPING that Disney will give him one at the last minute similar to how they made a few adjustments to Maleficent between her initial promo pictures and her release. Its unrealistic to think that, and it probably won't happen, but I can at least hope.

I'm sorry to hear that :(. But I wouldn't worry about it. Even though Aladdin is popular as a character, boy dolls rarely ever sell out quickly. Even if he was to, then I don't see him going for much on the secondary market. Plus even if dolls sell out online, stores usually have some left over. I remember three Phillips were at mine for almost a month before they got rid of them. Either way, I hope everything works out in your favor! :)

EDIT: Whoops just realized that someone already replied to you! But still, I wish you the best!

I'd get Aladdin if there weren't so many dolls coming out right now, but he got cut. I hate to admit it, but I do favor the female dolls. I feel I get more with them. Also, male dolls can get a little creepy, and Aladdin certainly has some unflattering angles. I really wanted Jafar as I think he looks a lot better and more like the movie version, but he too ended up cut of my list. I'd buy him after January if I could find a decent price on Ebay, but no way could I do it before Christmas. I'd have to cut out a couple more of the sets if I wasn't allowed a lot of overtime right now.

I really wanted a prince Kit le doll for my le Ella doll, but that ship has sailed sadly. I'm just hoping the frozen fever dolls won't be a hassle. I'm just hoping that Disney store will fully embroider Elsa's cape and that the pics we saw for her were a prototype.

I totally feel everyone's pain - I literally have no room at all for any more dolls; pre-ordered Jasmine included. I also cannot actually afford the dolls right now :( - I really wish they'd taken my money when I pre-ordered Jasmine all those weeks ago, would have made life a bit easier. It's the exchange rate that's killing me at the moment. I'm too terrified to not buy Aladdin and Jafar though, I'm worried they're going to skyrocket on the second hand market and then I'll never get them. I wish my completionist self (for the Classic princesses) could let me rest without them...but that's not going to happen. Also make me sad that there's not a villain for all dolls (reallllllly want a Facilier, Gaston, and Evil Queen). I think if I had to choose between Aladdin and Jafar, I'd get Jafar (he's amazing).
Anyways, enough whinging on my part - I really am looking forward to the dolls. Has anyone been charged yet for their pre-order?
Oh - and PrinceAli, I love your pictures!! :)

To ease some worries I think it's safe to say there is NO WAY Aladdin, at least, will skyrocket on the secondary market. They are making 5000 of him! I know he's the titular character and far more popular than any of the male dolls they've made so far...but there's 5000 of him! Look how long it took Phillip to sell out. Even Kristoff barely sells for retail. I just found an auction for him that ended back in mid-September that sold for only $82US! Aladdin will most assuredly take a while to sell out, and once he does it will be years before his price starts to climb. Jafar will be worth a little more right off the bat as his LE number is much lower but he is both a male and a villain doll and neither of those types of dolls sell as well as female princesses. If you can afford only one right now, go for Jafar. If you can't get either then absolutely hold off as you'll be able to get them for pretty much retail (or less if you're lucky!) in the next several months to come.

Exciting news everyone! My bank just show a pending charge for my preorder Teal Jasmine! Looks like she should be shipping out soon!

It's all right, lol. The more times I hear it, the better. It definitely helps to ease my stress level. And thanks for your well wishes.

I would say call also call the store before 11/3 to verify what time they will put them out and how they will do it. I have to drive about 45 minutes to get to my nearest store, but there are a couple clustered together, so I called to find out how they'd handle the Snow/Hag set. I was told by both stores it was a raffle, but one store did it first thing in the morning and the other did it at 1:00 pm. Not sure if they'll handle the Frozen Fever dolls the same, but I will call ahead again. I'm no expert on in-store purchases as I've bought all mine online, but I'm not risking it with the Frozen Fever dolls.

With the 17in dolls, its first come first serve.
