DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion

If some rumors are true, there's going to be no designer collection next year. I heard a really far-off rumor that they weren't releasing anything this year designer-wise.

I hope they're releasing "something" coz it's D23 year (which I'll be attending for the first time!).

Um, why are Anna's pupils smiling? That's a really strange effect.

So, did anyone want the dolls and NOT get them? I don't mean did you pass on them, but was there too much traffic that interested collectors missed out. It seems like there are a LOT on my local classifieds (scalpers), so now I wonder if they'll be stuch with them for a long time or if there'll be a few panic shoppers out there.

I saw the links for the dolls around 3:10 this morning and could still put the dolls in my bag. I decided against Anna just because I don't collect Frozen anymore. She was the only doll I actually liked. All three were still up around them. I figured they'd sell out in a few minutes tops.

I stayed up to make the purchase, but there are quite a few people here at school who decided not to stay up late this morning and missed out. For now, the prices on the secondary market seem to value these dolls at ~200% of original price. If this trend holds steady, I know some people who would be OK with that cost. We shall see...

I'm so happy with these dolls! I bought the Elsa in store, and a friend got me Anna as well. I love the tinsel, love the pearlescent shine on Elsa's face, the costumes are beautiful (Anna's skirt is utterly gorgeous), and I think Elsa's updo is my favorite of all the Frozen hairstyles so far. So happy!

So happy I finally got some sleep after that release! I can't complain too much though; I was able to purchase Anna at 12:03 thanks to the WONDERFUL link/code sharers. I know beyond a doubt I never could have gotten her if not for those, so for everyone out there who provided information thank you so very much.

All of the pictures of the dolls people have been posting so far, especially the ones on this forum, look amazing. They almost made me want to buy Elsa and Kristoff too, but I just had to pass on both. As beautiful as this Elsa is I wouldn't want to keep her if I had Snow Queen Elsa instead, and I really don't like just how plain-looking Kristoff's box is compared to the colorful, ornate boxes of the sisters and my Prince Phillip at home. The closest thing to a criticism I have about Anna is the black threading in her hair, which isn't pleasant but still so subtle it took a picture just of the top of her head for me to see it. I also finally noticed the tinsel everyone's been talking about in her hair, and I personally don't mind since each individual piece seems very small. Based on pictures I think the tinsel is a lot more off-putting in the new Elsa; I almost wonder if the artists made her hair a little more golden and added the tinsel because they had plenty of it left over from the Auroras?

Anyways, congratulations to everyone who managed to get the beautiful dolls they wanted! I'm still so happy that this release went as smoothly as it did (I was a little worried after hearing the horror stories of the morning Fawn crashed the website).

While I got my dolls in the UK, sadly a friend of mine in the US didn't! I'm currently looking around for her as I type, but it's a little disheartening seeing all the high prices already. I'm hoping with a number of collectors passing and scalpers picking up the rest, they'll be forced to drop the prices down a bit to sell because of all the competition. One can dream, right?

I don't think these dolls will reach the March set prices from last year. They aren't *as* detailed, and the outfits are seen for much less of the film, plus the shiny skin and tinsel hair is a huge turn off for lots of collectors. I personally think the prices will stagnate where they are and plateau or will drop slightly before settling for a while. In my opinion, Kristoff has the most potential to retain value, seeing as he is the only one between the three sets. Then again, less people collect boys!!

The prices always spike immediately after release because of the panic that hits most people after missing a doll - a fact most scalpers capitalise on. With patience the prices usually drop after a couple weeks once the initial furor dies down and buyers and sellers alike realise just how flooded the market is. And it is flooded, a quick eBay search shows the vast majority of listings right now are for the new dolls. Especially as your friend is in the US, they have the advantage of supply outweighing demand.

I woke up at 2:50am and by 3:10 I had purchased Kristoff. I don't typically collect dolls but I loved the Maleficent and Prince Phillip dolls so much that I couldn't pass up Kristoff. I wasn't really interested in Anna or Elsa but they are nice. They definitely look better in their boxes than in the promo pictures.

So, I'm restyling my Kristoff doll and I noticed that he has some numbers on the back of his head.
P22
DS/599
Anyone know why these are on the back of his head? Anyone else restyled hair and found things on the back of their heads before?

Edit:
His hair was really bothering me and I take them out of box anyway. This is a really cute photo I took before I started restyling his hair!

Be sure to share after you're done restyling his hair :anxious:

I got Anna and Elsa at my Disney Store on Tuesday and I absolutely love them! They are much nicer looking in person IMO. These are my first two LE Dolls I have Maleficent coming in from eBay and plan to continue collecting LE dolls not all of them like some do but just the ones I want. Does anyone think the Cinderella dolls will be as hard to get as these were? Hopefully she doesn't sell out as quick online as I won't be able to make it to a disney store that day as I really like her and want her(the ball gown version any way could care less about the wedding version)

When my time comes around ... It'll definitely be for the Aladdin dolls ;] but huge congrats to everyone who got the dolls in store or online or both lol. It was surprising cause my main Disney stores in my city still had a couple of each of the new frozen dolls. IMO, I still like the first two sets. Especially the 2013 Coronation Anna & 2014 Coronation Elsa dolls when I went out today. But seriously can't wait for my Home Boy, Aladdin & his awesome LE dolls to come this year! I'll post a photo of these dolls that I got when I first started LE Disney doll collecting in 2013 & try to have everyone remain calm. Plus to be distracted if there's a rumor "Hans" doll or frozen fever dolls coming out soon.

It took me an hour and a half, but I'm done. I knew my only problem was his hair, but boy did it look bad when I finally had all his hair from out his collar. Some places I took off half an inch!

Here's a guide on how to do this yourself:

Tools needed:
Fine tooth comb (I used a electronic clipper head for this)
Stiff paint brush (straight, watercolor)
Small parting tool (Dental tool, a hook, needle, ect.)
1:1 water and washable glue that dries clear mixture.
Lots of pictures of Kristoff's hair
Hair cutting scissors

1. Strip that bad boy! Just to let you know he's padded in the t-shirt, so be super careful around that area. To take off his vest, his arms must be backward. To take off his shirt, his arms must be forward.
2. Wash all of that product out of his hair with soap and water. Disney does a really horrible job with the men for styling their hair. Get really familiar with the layout of the roots at this time.
3. Let his hair dry for about 20 minutes by brushing it out with a fine-tooth comb. It doesn't really matter how bad his hair looks right now, because it's about to change.
4. Start off with his bangs:
a. Bring a couple strands forward from the middle part to combine with the bangs. Pay close attention to how his part looks in the film. Secure them with the glue mixture dipped in the brush.
b. Use the parting tool to give his bangs that windswept look he's known for as the bangs are drying. Make sure there are areas that stand apart from the rest and come together around where his eyebrows are.
c. Use the scissors and cut the bangs in a slightly disheveled way between eyes and eyebrows. Make sure to leave that nose-bridge dip.
--Here's where I would stop if you don't feel comfortable with layering hair--

5. Layering the hair:
a. Apply a good amount of the glue mixture to the bottom 1/2 inch of his hair in the back and on the sides.
b. Proceed to cut off 1/8 an inch off his hair or more depending on your tastes.
c. Have the scissors to the back of his hair at around a 20 degree angle to his neck and start layering his hair. Start with the top of his hair since that's the longest strands. Take extra care to not expose the back of his head; his roots look terrible.
d. Use the parting tool as it's drying to separate strands again, giving it the windswept look.
6. His ears and nape area:
a. Make sure that his hair is styled in this way that it covers only the top bit of his ear lobe.
b. Give his hair around the nape of his neck a flared out look from the front using layering techniques.
c. His hair around his nape should be, at its longest, about 1/3 of an inch away from the bottom of his ear lobe. His hair will get stuck back in his collar if not.
7. Make sure to part several sections so that the top layer on the sides of his hair are are swept backward.

I'm gonna try darkening bits of his hair with watercolor later.

^ Love seeing all your pictures. One main thing I love about these new LE dolls is that Anna and Kristoff can finally look at each other. They are so adorable.

And "Can I say something crazy?": Maybe they will release a new Hans LE. It wouldn't really make sense, but it would be crazy, and that fits in somehow.

Thanks! I kinda hope they do at some point, but I'll probably have 4 Anna's by the end of this Heirloom tirade. If I ever get Coronation Anna, I would probably trade or sell my Nordic Anna. It really is my least favorite of all of them and I have no desire to get SQ Elsa for her if they make a Frozen Fever Elsa.

I am really looking forward to the Aladdin dolls too. If these are done well, they will probably be my favorite in this heirloom collection.

thank you i got my order today and yesterday they gave me a new track and trace code. now i can breath again

-disneysfreakingprincess did you just have standard delivery or fast? I rang up disney today and they told me they'll send out my order today and I should get it next week at the latest

standard delivery. but mine came from the uk to the netherlands. and it was a limited edition pin. but i was afraid my dolls otherwise also wouldn't come to my place. they will come next week i hope.

Since your friend is in the US, yes. There are a few known re-sellers on the FB groups (that are still re-sellers of pins) that purchased a few sets in Southern California.

I don't expect these to reach the prices of the March set, but I do expect the March set to raise in price. For new collectors, this might be the first set they were able to get at retail and then they may want more.
