Add up what you have just spent for the precious little pieces of metal and think OMG I just spent WHAT for pins?????
Oh my that money could go for this or that but I choose pins......oh well the story of a pin collector :)
sometimes I do sit back and look at my collection and admire it so and sometimes I look at it and see all the $$$$$ Ive spent on it!

What about you?

Yeah I know. Kind of scary sometime. I just realized how much I spent this past month on pins and how much I might/might not spend when I go to Mickey's of Glendale this coming Saturday...

This happens to me all the time.
I find pins for good prices and so I buy a few and then add it up and I'm like oh gosh what did I just do hahaha

Yes Ive been there a few times, I went a little health conscience a while ago and wanted to cut back on oils/fatty stuff so switched to other stuff but I remember I was after a Chip (Fries) pan/fryerwhich is one of the healthy ones where it only uses a tablespoon of oil to cook chips... well it was on sale!! and its rarely on sale since its about 200 euro as it is full price...well I chose A pin..yes only ONE pin XD I dont regret it but I still do want the chip pan XD

You could collect this stupid little rocks called Diamonds too. Collectibles are collectibles. I pitty the fool that even thinks of paying $2,750 for the marquee's someone just listed online. Top retail value, they are worth maybe half that, at best.

Yup, that's been happening to me ever since I came to DPF. :) I've blown my pin budget and then some again this month, so I am telling myself that I'm not allowed to even LOOK at sales threads!

:p

That's what I kept telling myself too....but it hasn't worked, I say " I'll just look to see what they have for sale, I don't really need anything but wait oh my gosh I NEED that pin for my collection! And while I am buying one I might as well see if I need anything else so it can be shipped together" oh my!

I watched Collection Intervention last night on the SyFy channel. And it made me laugh! People collect such BIG things! There were Catwoman and Star Wars collections that were taking over their house. Pins are so small! And since I am still new - mine hasn't taken up more than 1 room. It would be funny and kind of neat to see someone's pin collection on that show! I love it!

Again, stop judging people who want to spend their money. Its THEIR MONEY and they can decide how they want to spend it. Seriously, I've seen like 5-6 posts of you passive aggressively insulting either the sellers or the buyers. Its kinda ridiculous man. You may take pride in not "purchasing" pins which is all fine and dandy. But in order for you to even get close in getting your "MOST WANTED" marquee's..you better get some $$$ or some really good traders because thats how people value the Marquee's nowadays.

Other than that, Carry on!

I totally agree, I go through that often, lol! :) But, this little thought always settles me when I am freaking out about what I have spent..."If I am ever in dire need for $$$, in about a week, I could sell my pins on ebay  hope I never HAVE to, and probably make more off of them than what I spent to get them!" Always seems to calm me down! Hopefully it will work for the rest of you also! :D

Lol I ease my conscience by telling myself "At least I'm not buying alcohol, drugs, or sports/trading cards with them... trading cards aren't waterproof like these shiny pieces of metal!!!"

But yes, sometimes I need to take a step back and make sure I'm not dedicating all of my paycheck to these little guys. They can be pretty addicting, but I've learned some self-control over the last two years.

This is a wonderful way to look at it!!! :D And a little self-control can go a long way, lol! Or have NO $$$ really helps too, ha ha!

I felt that way looking at pins. The most expensive pin I have bought was around $50. However, even spending $10 per pin while buying multiple pins at one time starts adding up. I've decided to limit myself to only a few pins a month, we'll see how well that goes.

:p

...yeah that's pretty much how it ends up for me too. :D

The worst for me is when I look at my ebay bucks and it has accumulated to almost $25.... ;___;

I think what in the hell did I do the last three months?

This is why I deliberately picked one of the most specific collection possible. I just can't spend that much on it because there isn't enough there to break the bank ^_^

It also helps that I have sufficiently varied interests that keep me from spending too much on any one collection. And I keep my financial goals in mind as well. When it's pins or Paris, the choice is easier to make ^_^

Why do I feel like I'm the one to blame? Haha. :)
Oh Alexa you were just the beginning of my spending spree this week! But I was just sitting here thinking I need to look over Alexa's pins one more time :) I swear my PayPal account is gonna blow up! Haha. I'm sure when I get my pins from you, I will be back for more sooner than later ....oh my, better get that pm box cleaned out hahaha:)

hahaha I'm the same! When I see more than $20 and that worries me instead of being happy sometimes hehe

Ooh! But think of the great "free" pin you'll get to buy with your eBay bucks! :D

When I started seriously collecting (First Vinylmations, and now both pins and Vinyls), I learned a long time ago not to add up what I spend. I just act like I never had that money in the first place

I am the same way! My collection grew so much in a few months, but my wallet grew lighter faster than I could imagine. I look at my collection and admire how pretty they are, but then sometimes I add up how much each pin costs or how many pins it took to get a specific one and it gets a little sad. It's ok though, it's a fun hobby! I'm trying to set a budget on how much I can spend monthly.. but it's so hard sometimes! I have yet to keep that budget.. hehe

I'm so far in arrears right now due to pins, that I'm THRILLED that August has been a slow release month. I have no interest in the Steamboat Willie PODM, so that means I only needed the single attraction poster pin this month and I'm done. It's gonna take a long while to pay off the Cindy set from DS as well as the major damage I did at the Reagan Library
