Doubles - which pin is legit?

I am purely guessing as I know nothing about this pin...but I would be inclined to say the one with the serial numbers on the back would be the real one.
 
I have this pin on my workstation right now and it is exactly like the pin on the right. I would have guessed that one from the pictures also, the one on the left looks like a scrapper.
 
Not wanting to be one to rock the boat here... But judging by two things, I believe the pin on the right is the scrapper. First is the quality. The colors are a lot less vibrant on the right pin, and Maleficent's eyes do not look completely proportionate. Second has to do with the back of the pin. If you look closely at the picture, the Mickey heads on the edge of the right pin are framed by a thin, hardly noticeable line in some areas. That is one of the telltale signs of a scrapper. The one on the left does not seem to have this.

Not to rock the boat here... but I'm pretty sure the pin on the right is the scrapper. It's colors are less vibrant, the eyes are not proportionate on Maleficent, and the Mickey heads on the edge of the pin on the back are slightly framed.
 
I think the one on the right is the scrapper as well. The eyes and colors don't look right on the one on the right and the mickey heads on the back look too far apart to me.
 
Actually, both pins could be legit.

The one on the left definitely looks like the original release from 2010 but this pin set has been sold for so long that the various production runs could've been created with different imprints on the back. I've never seen this pin with a serial number printed on the back and didn't think they'd ever do this to a booster set but stranger things have happened with Disney pins. Or the people making counterfeit pins are savy to put some random serial number on the backs of their pins to make them appear legit? Great, one more thing to deal with... I'm glad the printing of serial numbers didn't last long and Disney is now creating pins with the serial numbers part of the actual pin, making them harder to duplicate.

If I had to pick one, I'd go with the original on the left. The back of the left one looks messy as does the serial number printed on it.

ok---cause i had both!! in your photo above the pin on the left is authentc. the big box does get cut off. This pin does NOT have a serial number inked on the back. Also as someone pointed out....the green face is faded on the right pin as well as the eyes are the off color.

At first glance i also felt the back of the pin on the right looked...choppy (thats my word) I am over 95% on this one because i also have/had the scrapper and it is a noticible difference.

Then there is a big problem because I bought this pin on the original card from a member of this forum selling a ton of booster sets. They came in original package with right SKU and I feel they are very trustworthy, bought a lot in the last few months and none of them have looked questionable. So I would have to go with the person that says they both could be legitimate, with different series/years.
 
This is handy for me, I think the one on the left is legit and the right is a scrapper because the Mickey heads look 'rough' gah!
 
It would be best if you could get someone to look at them in person, cause photos never really show what a pin really looks like.
 
Like others said...they could both be real. I can't tell the dates from your pictures...but if the left one is older and the right one (with the serial numbers) is newer this would make sense. I just know Disney has been putting serial numbers on most of their new pins.

Although I still don't know (if they WERE both real) why they would change the size and placement of the pin trading logo box and the pin post between years...

Look at Diablo's head and Maleficent's head. Both heads on the right picture are slightly off from the left picture and Maleficent's head looks a bit more titled on the left picture versus the right picture (it could be the angle the pins were placed at but they looked to be placed at the same angle).

BTW, this shouldn't be in Pin Discussion but "Pin Comparison"

Your best bet would be to find someone close to a park (not the original seller) to go take a picture of the booster sets on the racks and see if there's a serial number on the back of the package.

also and interesting, there is now scrapper alert on this pin nor the booster set at all.

There isn't? There used to be. And people's warnings at the bottom too. Quick, someone buy a scrapper lot on ebay and see if they get this pin. LOL.
 

If it's still available on the rack, I'll just look next time I go. I didn't realize it was still available, hubby traded for the one with the serial for me yesterday. I've had the other one for a while, I don't even remember where it came from.
 
I'm seeing doubles, but I think it's just the scotch kicking in. The dizzying, misty haze caused my drunken state makes it hard for me to tell whats real and whats not. I can't say i'm complaining though. Its good to be back in this town, but the only thing I have anymore is my trusty flask. I pull out a drag and take a big puff from my cigarette. It was risky, but having a smoke was the only thing worth blowing my cover for. I had had enough and twisted my cigarette against the lamp post I was leaning up against. It was time to catch those goons who were making a mockery of the pin trading industry. It was time to clean up this town.
