DSF release guidelines for June 1 2013 release

IF you were there when we were talking to Theresa about random wristbands for larger releases. There has been 2 huge releases and found that there are a guaranteed 300 that show up at large popular releases at each release with a few (20-30) over that amount. So the base is 300. (I would think 400 random wristbands for these type of Events). For a smaller popular release like this one, about 100 do a sleepover with the next 75 wandering in the outside line from 11pm to 4am. Then after 5am everyone else shows up for the leftovers and trades? With 2 per person and an LE 300, the rush for the 1 - 150 is set with a sleep over. The last release with the Bottles, 150 were in line around 6am.

It is not a rush to be the first 150 to be guaranteed a pin now. It is now a race to be the first 200 and 50 people have the chance to be included or excluded. If you do a sleep over and you are number 151-200, are you gonna be pissed? If your number 200 to arrive inline as we say late and get wristband 20, are you happy you got to sleep in? With summer coming, and the "kids" are out of school, will some be pissed that 1 family now has the option to get multiple wristbands and have instead of a 1:200 chance of getting wristband but not guaranteed a pin versus having a 1:100 (2 people) , 1:50 (4 people) to better your odds of getting a wristband? Will you get upset that a certain person hires 5 people and now has a 1:40 change of getting a wristband but still not guaranteed a pin? Will it be worth it is that person only has 2 of them to get a wristband?

The new way of random wristbands are a way of cutting down on a sleep over period. At the Iron Man release, a sleep over line versus a morning line must be stopped. DSF does not want police to ever be involved. I can almost guarantee that at the next huge release there will be "3" unofficial lines and each one saying they should be acknowledged? Do you expect that 20 from this line, 5 from that line and 5 from the other line until all are depleted? As we saw, the last in line of the sleepover just went over to the morning line and got an early wristband.

This I see this as a test of not increasing the LE but based on past releases from DSF Management they want "fair" that everyone gets a chance at the "pin(s)". If you read Facebook, there are a lot of posters that wish they could make a release but for their reasons can not do a sleep over but can get there in the morning. If you read this Forum post, some gave up on sleepover for a "pin" and some feel they are entitled that they deserve a pin for getting there 12 hours prior to anyone else.

Myself, I have been in the sleepover, I have been in the 12 hour unofficial line, I feel sometimes that I should be entitled to certain pins that I want (should I say need?) for my collections, I have shown up alone, I have shown up with my son, I have shown up with the entire family. So I can be agreed with and I can be disliked.

All I know is that if this 200 wristband does not work then it may be increased to 250 then 300 so no one sleeps over and everyone just shows up at 8am and we guide ourself in numerical order. Once more can make the 8 am distribution because the sleep over is non existent then the LE 400 makes more sense. People that could not make it now arrive and some of the secondary market ends and the extra 50 people who get pins will help out others and actual trades for DSF pin can be made with the rest of the world instead of trading Gold for Silver? Maybe an LE 400 Mickey pin will now be available in the $4 bargain bin again?

And 1 per person does not give way for "keep one - Trade one" theory........

all-righty-then. If I understand this correctly...DSF is giving out 200 vouchers. The LE size is 300. So, to sum it up, we're all taking a chance that we might not be able to purchase the pins. Am I correct?

I honestly don't think 150 are going to show up for this release. Besides Rapunzel all the others will still be available just like two of the four soda bottles were. People can show up by 10:00am and probably still get their pins.
 

A lottery was the consensus of a lot of other folks on here, but they wanted an online RSP that gave winners word that they won. I do agree that edition sizes should continue to rise. hopefully we will see LE 750 to 1000 soon.

I like it, lets just keep trying different stuff forever, keep em all on their toes. Then again, I'm posting for a layover in Iceland so you'all will have to let me know how it goes.

The 100 people with vouchers still line up in voucher number order, doesn't matter if there are missing numbers. Anyone who shows up after the voucher handout time cutoff (in this case 8:30am) has to line up behind the voucher holders.
 
i wish i was camping out for La Loca Punzel. She looks like my favorite actress. Ms. Lohan. i Wish i could sleep on those dirrty shinning streets but work is not permitting. One thing they better make sure they factor in is that by changing the process, it changes behavior. In the past, maybe only 300 regular people would show up, because of the risk vs reward nature, "The line has already been formed for hours, no point in driving up there for a miniscule chance in a leftover line." If people now think they can show up a couple hours early and have an equal chance of getting a pin as everyone else, then 500 people may show up. Which means it will start either an unofficial wristband line or pushing & shoving matches.
 
I still see this as a hybrid and not a complete embrace of a single system. By making the 200 vouchers for 150 people at 2 sets per person, they've created a 75% chance of getting a pin. But they have also created a need to be within the first 200 people in line, to get a chance at getting a voucher. This is puzzling, in that DSF always seems intent on limiting lineup times or eliminating the lines altogether.

If this is the case, then DSF needs to take a proactive role in managing the lines and make sure that a single, orderly, line is formed; regardless of where, outside the esplande, it forms. The multiple lines issue is out of control and shouldn't be allowed. The police have basically told them this on two separate occassions and DSF should take responsibility for the line; no matter where it is.

I'm still of the opinion that they could do the line chances during the week, by handing out wristbands and calling out the number on Facebook. This is advantageous in that they have customers pulled into the store, where they will likely buy PTDs, and they make some people happy by not making them show up and not pulling a winning voucher. Everyone who shows up is either on the list of posted winners or they are there for second chance/leftover pins.

Yet again, root issue is that they have grown out of their low LE sizes and need to increase them. I'm not getting why they are reluctant to sell more product. Perplexing, indeed.

I suspect people are in their ear about how it would destroy the demand for DSF pins, and then there would be no lines, and everything would end up in the $4 bin.

It is the most likely explanation.

If it were me, I'd be taking note of which releases and pins sold the quickest. Then I would tweak the amounts to (a) have more product to sell and (b) make more customers happy by giving more of an opportunity to get a pin. As a business, I wouldn't particularly care about LE sizes, unless I was trying to move weak characters that traditionally don't move well without some low edition size help.

Rapunzel related? Easily make those LE 500 to 750. Mickey Mouse? Keep those at LE 300. Know your product and know your customer base = More money, as a business.
 
I think they just need to switch all to LE400... I think 400 is a nice compromise. Higher than 300, but since 500's sit on the shelves it was to high. The independance day pins are le400. maybe thats a good sign of things to come?

hm... **thinks**

some of the PTD's, one or two marquee's last a couple days.... In fact the finding nemo marquee, le500, is not as highly tradeable as others. trading: 56, wanting 76. not good numbers, especially for a marquee.

Heres what I find for le500's when i search them in pinpics:

I know there are others, for instance in this search the nemo marquee didnt even show up. However, in general le500's tend to not sell out for a little while.

When at the trade tables, if someone sees a dsf pin, they like it. The instant they see its a le500, not 300, the want factor changes, and they won't trade as hard to get it. doesnt matter what it is, le500 DSF pins do not do as well in face to face trades.

Which is why they need to only up certain characters, in my opinion. The LE 500 PTD Ray and Skippy were not good characters upon which to base whether or not they could sell LE 500 pins. If they had gone LE 500 on Rapunzel, Pascal, or any of the sure fire characters, if would have been a better indicator of whether or not they could effectively move 500 units. To place that burden upon characters from the least popular princess movie (sorry Tiana) or a movie where people have to ask who is Skippy, was not fair. Those characters would have stayed there for about the same amount of time if they had been LE 300.

Same goes for the couple of marquees they made LE 500.

All goes back to supply and demand. It probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference if Rapunzel is LE 300 or 500. It makes a difference when Skippy is LE 500 versus 300. In my opinion, demand for Rapunzel far outstrips that of Skippy and people will not make a whole lot of fuss over LE sizes for Rapunzel. They simply want the pin because of the character.
