I have to give a big shout out to Connie aka Kiras_Grandmother. She is the sweetest lady I've ever met. I talked to her the other night about how I had never pin traded in the park and was shy/nervous about going up to the pin trading tables. She told me you don't need to be shy. :) I told her I was going to Disneyland today and she told me she would be there. :)

I met her today and she gave me a great big hug to welcome me. She told me she had something to give me and gave me my first Disney Lanyard and a Chip and Dale pin to go on it. The lanyard I had was a Snoopy one... Anyways I met some really nice people who agreed with her that I shouldn't be shy and I was able to make my first trade with someone in person. Later towards the end I saw a 101 Dalmatian pin in Connie's book and asked if she would trade it with me for a pin I had on my lanyard. We had been talking about Little Green Aliens from Toy Story and I had a pin of them. She said yes. I then had to go. I wish I could have stayed and chatted with her all day... :) She told me to take care and that the next time I was at Disneyland to let her know. :) Anyways I just want to thank Connie from the bottom of my heart for making my first time trading at the park into the best pin trading day ever!!!!! I hope for many more outings to come with her.. Thanks Connie!!!!!!

Here's what I got. A couple of them are traders (the duffy and the queen/king of hearts) The Oswald is for a friend in Kansas and the rest are for me:

Hi Michelle,

You should be an old pro at it by the time we get down there. I am looking forward to trading with you when we are there!!! You should never be shy and don't be afraid to ask anybody if they will trade with you. The worst they can do is say no. You will figure it out pretty quickly who the fun people are and who are the ones to avoid. I have made some amazing trades with other guests just because they asked. Doesn't happen all of the time, but it does happen a lot for us.

Remember pin trading is supposed to be fun!!!

Thanks David!!! :) I finally saw how fun pin trading in person would be. :) I can't wait to pin trade with you too!!!! I don't think I'll be an old pro at it though by the time you get here because I only plan on going one other time to Disneyland before meeting you in April. :)

What a nice story. I wish I had met up with Connie when I was in Disneyland last December. I noticed some traders at some tables/benches in Tomorrowland and went up to see if we could trade. The first guy I approached looked briefly at my pins and told me pretty abruptly that I should go trade with a CM. I was pretty mortified.

That's the same kind of experience I had in December, too. I wanted to strike up a conversation with people and some of them looked pretty business-like.

I am going again in May and again in August; maybe I will be brave like MMiano and go chat people up again.

Nice pins! I just got that BatB one the other day at a yard sale and gave it to a friend!

Awww. I'm so sorry to hear that. :( I would have hated that if someone had said that to me. :(

When you go in May or in August I won't have a pass but I could meet you at the Pin Traders Store outside the park. :)

I am sorry you had that experience. You have to remember there are jerks in every walk of life and pin trading is no exception. But there are also nice people out there. Look for the ones with the smiles on their faces to start with.

Always look for the people who are happy to be there. The business looking people are usually a waste of time. But the ones with a smile on their face are the ones looking to have a good time. But just remember my previous comment, there are jerks and there are nice people. The trick is looking for the nice ones of us. Don't get discouraged if you get turned down or somebody is rude. Just remember pin karma will bite them in the butt at some point!!!

I have never traded in the Parks, either. I hope to someday, but I am nervous as well. If I knew that someone from here was going to be there when I'm able to go, it would sure help!

I'm glad you had a great time & congratulations on some awesome pins! :)

That is soooo awesome! SO glad she was so nice to you because we now have a new pin trader at the park! yay!!! hope you go check out pin trading night next week. It might be a little overwhelming but it is awesome and worth it!

Glad you had a wonderful time! My first time was pretty intimidating too. Unfortunately, some of the traders weren't very friendly to my boyfriend and made him feel insecure about my pins. I was pretty new to pin trading not too long ago and one of the traders at the pin tables took advantage of my lack of pin knowledge and tricked me into trading my awesome eric and ariel pin for something worth much, much less. Although recently the pin traders i have met at the tables have been extremely friendly! So if you bump into someone that isn't so nice, don't get discouraged! There are friendly people out there too. Glad you had a positive experience :)

I really want to go but I don't think I'll be able to make it. My birthday is the Sunday after and I already asked for that day off work... :)

It did definitely help to have someone there who knew I was coming and would help me out with feeling more comfortable. :)

Michelle you are just SO SWEET! It was my pleasure and honor to assist you today with your first pin trading experience. I have read the replies you've received to your thread, and I REALLY agree with what Docfish2u said about, look for traders who look happy to be there.....and that Pin Karma will bite those in the butt, who aren't. Good Advice. I look forward to meeting up with you again in the near future!
