ok this is proably seems like a silly question but as Im new to pin trading (and have never ever traded before) can anyone tell me how you would/ or did start out??
Ive only ever bought the pins I like and so would not want to trade any of my collection.
So how do you get started in trading???
Do you just go out and buy a dozen or so random pins and put them up for trade or do you look for certian types to put into trades, do you have 2 collections as it were, one for trade one for keeps or how do you do it?? surely you dont trade pins you like? or maybe you only keep your favouites/speaciel ones???

just wondering how people got started out and what they trade to give me some ideas of what the best things i should be doing are???

Honestly, I buy more than I trade, I hate to say it, but I just cannot anticipate what people will want for what I want.

My best traders are always pins I decide to give up out of my collection because I've moved on/want something more than I want said pin.

I buy a bunch of pins I don't like just so I have the motivation to trade them away rather than fighting with myself, debating if I should keep them or not.

I became friends with a girl who was swapping from pins to vinylmation. I bought her whole collection. Kept some, used some for traders. It was a great move for me. Try Craigslist in your area.

It took 10 years for my trades to get to the number that I have. Some are things that I collected at one time, but decided I didn't need anymore. Some are things that I traded for from CM lanyards (although with the counterfeit/scrapper issue I get less new traders these days). Some are accidental duplicate purchases. Some are from buying discounted pins. Some are from buying a lot of pins with some for my collection and some I didn't want.

The best piece of advice I got when trying to build up my traders was to buy duplicates of the pins you want. That's what I started doing and have quite a few good traders now... but it's hard on your bank account!

thanks for your input people, its quite intresting to here how people built up there collections for trading, and i have a few ideas now of what i might do to start off! thankies will look forward to doing some trades with you all in the future!! ;-)

I found that there are certain characters that have more universal appeal than others- Stitch, Jessica Rabbit, Alice, Little Mermaid, and at the moment Rapunzel are all characters that have a huge fan base. When I get the chance to buy traders, I usually stick to them just because I know they *may* trade easier than other random characters. I'm sure there are other characters that I forgot to mention that are super hot traders, but off the top of my head those are the ones I can think of.

Thanks for the tip, I shall remember to look out for the more popular charaters then!!

I have such eclectic taste i have had to buy the pins i keep....but trading at pin nights and going to MyDpins which is a collectir store down here, I have pulled both collection and trades for a reasonable price. Also... I love to trade so I will often trade someone just for fun. I get traders that way too. It is a hobby... Just remember to have fun with it and collect what you like. Hope to trade with you soon,
Kim
