That's Right... We are going Live Action after receiving several suggestions to give it a try... But to do it right we need things that are gonna make the place jump...!!!

I hope you are pleased with the items you see so far... More specifics will be posted as time draws near...

I will be posting the actual rules as we get closer to the event

Please post your thoughts and questions on this thread...
Thank You and we will see you there...!!!

First, I strongly suggest that you clear this with the Soda Fountain. You wouldn't want people to show up for this only to find out that the Soda Fountain Cast Members have a problem with this and start sending people away. Or, in the event that the Soda Fountain approves this plan, you should find out how many people will be permitted access to the store to participate live for the same reason. You don't want people showing up only to have them be turned away.

Second, once you get things sorted with the Soda Fountain, I think you'll need to find a way to keep track of the bids that you're getting on both ends - i.e. AT the Soda Fountain and on line IN the DPF chat room. You'll need to find a way to do several things at the same time:

1. Keep track of all of the bids IN the Soda Fountain
2. Keep track of all of the bids IN the DPF chat room
3. Find a way to notify all of the bidders in the Soda Fountain of the bids made in the DPF chat room
4. Find a way to notify all of the bidders in the DPF chat room of all bids made in the Soda Fountain

It might not be so bad for those in the Soda Fountain to track the DPF chat bids if they bring their laptops and sign into DPF chat themselves, but those in chat will have no way of knowing what is going on in the Soda Fountain without being updated. Someone probably will have to be designated with this task. The same will have to be done with a leader board at various intervals, if you're going to have one.

Potential problems I might see:
1. People were popping in and out of chat during your last auction, which made things difficult. I think that since you'll be conducting an auction both live and in chat, this will make it so much worse
2. Not everyone will be prepared (especially those offering the pins live at DSF) to provide the Pin Pics #s for their bids. Pin Pics #s will have to be provided for every bid, in order to make things fair and easy to track
3. Establishing a bidding order, both for those in chat and in DSF - and sticking to it

Once again, I'll do everything I can to help make sure this goes as smoothly as possible. Keep me (and the rest of the DPF Staff) updated; remember that we're just a mouse click away.

Again I am sorry to try new things all the time... And you have many valid points, some of which I had already considered others not... I will give a few of my thoughts...

As far as getting this cleared with the Soda Fountain... I am not selling any items, which I know is not permitted on Disney Property... All items are for trade only... Second... the reason it begins at 9:00pm is that is when most businesses are slowing down as well as the crowd waiting in line... This will not be inside the building... It will be on the steps outside while we all sit there in our sleeping bags... Same as any other trading that goes on every time people are waiting in line for pins... The only difference is the Online Option... Now as far as online option... It will not be in the chat room, that is insane... There will be a standard Auction Trade Thread with set Lots posted well in advance... I will suggest that people have their pin numbers and information ready to go... This is Live Action we will not wait for people who are not ready, that is their problem, they will have plenty of time to prepare... There will also be a set rule for bidders that the bid may contain no more than 3 pins which must include the Pin# and the written description... Unfortunatly due to time restraints, we need to know what is offered without having to look things up... On the Live Auction Thread the item Lot# will be posted with a Bidding open Now... Members can use the Chat Room to do real time comments and thoughts... But bids accepted will be just like a real time auction with the people there in person getting the ball rolling with initial bids, and as bidding slows down the top bid will be posted on the Live Auction Thread with 2 minutes in which a counter offer may be made by someone bidding through DPF... After time has run out, A posting will be made stating Lot# bidding has been closed and the winning bidder announced after that... Then hopefully we can continue on the same thread by posting the next Lot# and following the same procedure. But just like in true auctions the live audience takes presidence of the commencement of the bidding. As far as a leaderboard, there is just one top bid at any given moment, when a better bid is offered that person is in the lead... We will not post every bid placed as they do not matter... all that matters is the top bid and the ability to beat it within the two minute window... As far as pinpics #s... Again I would suggest that no bids are larger than 3 pins and we have the ability to figure out 3 numbers fairly quickly... But if the bidders know what they are considering bidding, a list of those numbers would make things helpful for all... Now as far as making it fair for everyone... That is not easy to do... I was hoping by allowing the possability of online bids I was making it fair for all... But if this is not possible to do and people feel it will not work, then I can just go back to the original plan and just stand there and yell loud enough for just those around me to participate.

ok I have a question - so for the people at DSF we need to have pinpics numbers and descriptions?

Yes it would be helpful to have a small list written down somewhere of the pins you may considering trading or bidding so that it can keep things flowing smoother... But it is not a necessity as we will have internet access via about 200 mobile devices in the line... I am sure any pin offered can be found by one of us then listed as the top bid when the top bid is established so that the members online can see the top bid then have the oportunity to counteroffer...

An additional thought... A slight additional value will be given to those who have their pins in hand as this will eliminate the shipping cost... This is more evident in the larger items like framed sets which have a minimum of a $20 shipping tag on it... I want to be fair, but shipping cost must be considered in the overall trade offer as this has bitten us in the butt before...

Do people bring framed sets with them to trade in dark alleys?? Related to this, will people "in person" be limited to trading only what they have on them, or can they make a trade with something at home and mail it to you later? Just wondering, since I'll be stuck in TN watching from afar...

Good question as this has entered my mind as well... I would say that if you are a member of the DPF family and are there in person that I feel I trust you and that if they say they actually have the pin offered I would accept it as a bid and trust that they would honor the bid... But on the other hand this does not apply to PoDM's since the scene cannot be seen... Any person bidding live with a bid of a PoDM must have it in hand or the scene available for viewing via the DPF... Just as the online bidders must post the actual scene offered... Anyone bidding live that is not on the DPF Forum may only bid what they have on hand... No Exceptions... I only trust my DPF family no others...

Before you do this, you need to make sure you comply with Calcivil code re auctioners. under cal law you are requredto be bounded and face fines for failing to do so. And you really need to get Disneys permission because they can kick you out and simply stop allowing pin trading if something goes wrong.

Have we informed president Obama this is going down???

Calm down people...We are talking about auction style pin trading in an alley (usually occupied by bums and weirdos in costumes smoking cigarettes) at a glorified sleepover! Ha! No cash is changing hands so I'm pretty sure it will all be ok!! yowzers.

Not sure if this would apply as there is no money in exchange. It is actually a trade auction.

If this needs to be done it is not only Goofy Moe who needs to review these bond issues, but the rest of us who have done the auctions here on DPF as well as anyone who has offered a pin through pinpics.

The fact that no money is being exchange is probably irrelevant to an analysis if this is an auction. Things of value are being used to as bids for other things of value. Moreover, it is being called and advertised as an auction. A reasonable interpretation is that this is an auction. If not, then it’s simply fishing expeditions.

I have already posted significantly amounts of information that auctions have special legal issues concerning them. Another user has indicated that California law appears to controls them.

There is a large difference in holding a single auction online here on DPF vs. bringing hundreds, if not thousands of dollars’ worth of items to the Soda Fountain and holding a physical auction on their back-porch.

Why is this an issue?

Because we have already lost a lot of pin trading opportunities because of perceived greed by pin traders at the Disney parks. We have lost Tokyo Disneyland Resort. We have lost Downtown Disney in both Florida and California. We have lost pin trading events. Now it appears that we are in position to harm pin trading at the Soda Fountain and threatening this forum. I don't believe this is an issue to be taken lightly with hyperbole invoking the PotUS.

Finally,
PINPICS TRADES REQUESTS ARE NOT AUCTIONS!!!!!

Sorry to yell, but I am tired of people confusing that issue. I can accept or reject a pinpics trade request at any time until addresses are exchanged. Once you bid on an 0 auction you cannot.

Also realize that you will have a large group of people in a relatively small area.

Just a hypothetical situation to think about so that everyone stays safe:
What happens when someone doesn't get their way or they get mad when they don't win the auction. All it takes is for one upset person to ruin the whole thing.
What if said upset person leaves line and finds a cop and brings them back explaining they have been "cheated"? Right or wrong, do you really want to spend your whole night sorting it out with the cops?
What happens if said upset person starts shoving/tries to steal?

Wow, super buzz kill! Why do people need to take lighthearted hobbies sooooo seriously? Ew. If you don't like something than don't participate and keep your comments to yourself. Know what i heard when i read that post? A big fat price is right "waaaaaa waaaaaa" sound they play when you lose. Or the debby downer trombone. Sorry Mr. Goofy_moe that people keep raining (crapping) on your parade. You are just trying to keep it fun.

What's funny is people who wrote negative comments probably weren't even gonna be there, ha! Oye

I was gonna say, how many of the people being negative nancies on this thread where actually going to be there?... My guess is none... Lol.. Way to kill the fun for those staying at the DSF overnight..
