Heroes & villains collection first look
The merch for those characters might sell out fast in your store because they get less of it.

I get to see DS in manyd different countries as I travel for work and from what I see, the Tiana and Mulan stuff sells less. Eg Oxford St DS had both and no one was really buying them. I even saw little girls from the demographic I would have expected to go for Tiana or Mulan picking up Alice and Mary Poppins (who are both classic and well loved)

I was in Rome 3 days ago, they had a whole section of Jasmine stuff and no one was looking at it. Most were picking up Ariel or Belle or Inside Out stuff.

I don't think it ha anything to do with race, they are a business and they will keep making what sells. Tiana and Mulan don't sell as well as the rest. And if Disney were all about 'white girls' they' be making Jane and Megara merch too, but they're not. Because Jane & Meg are not popular.

I personally one of the people that grew up with Mulan, Jasmine and Pocahontas. Mulan and Jasmine are my absolute favourites and I'm so sad that I can either never find nice merchandise for them, or its something I can't afford. I'm actually talking myself into the Jasmine doll, the more I look at it the more I want her, even though I am currently volunteering, oversees in the Peace Corps and make no money. But I love Jasmine and am just so excited that merchandise of her/Aladdin is finally out.

When the fairytale collections came out, I bought all of the mugs because even though as a whole they were expensive... it was something I could afford and the artwork was beautiful. I always wish that I could afford the dolls, but they're just so pricey.

I was seeing commercials for the rerelease of both Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid on tv this time the past 2 years when their movies were rereleased. I've yet to see anything for Aladdin besides a few emails from the disney movie rewards and disney movie club.

Not to throw gasoline on the issue, but least where I live no commercials for ANY of the re-released films show up until about a month before they are released. It was definitely the case for The Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty, and most recently 101 Dalmatians, so I see no slight to Aladdin. I'd wager commercials will pop up any day now, and even then maybe just on ABC and other Disney-affiliated channels.

And if anything I'd say that at this point Disney has actually released more merchandise for Aladdin than they did for Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid (limited edition products included).

Disney is inundating us with Frozen merchandise now, but when the movie first came out, Disney didn’t know what hit 'em and there was not enough merchandise for the people who were demanding it, which was why everything Frozen was being sold for so much money on eBay. A few months after the movie came out, people were very angrily complaining on the Disney Store Facebook page that there was not enough Frozen merchandise. If people wanted Big Hero 6 merchandise as much as they wanted Frozen, they would have protested as much as they did over the lack of Frozen merch, and Disney would have met the demand.

Disney didn't start shoving Frozen down our throats until people started demanding it. The movie did not receive any more marketing pre-release than Big Hero 6 did. Most people didn't even know what Frozen was about until the film was released.

Frozen is a worldwide phenomenon that will have a huge lasting impact on our popular culture. Big Hero 6 is a great movie, but it does not even come close to what Frozen did.

This is 100% true. I was not even remotely keeping up with Disney at the time Frozen was released in theaters and only got around to seeing it in January. :) And even then Disney still wasn't trying to re-stock much of the merchandise; I think it was summer 2014 when they finally started putting out new Frozen products because that was the only way to satisfy all the demand. And (no one hurt me) I still haven't seen Big Hero 6, but it's my understanding that it wasn't the critical success that Frozen turned out to be, and like amm3 pointed out it didn't even come close to beating Frozen commercially.

I'm just going to leave this right here and urge everyone to watch it.

It's a sad truth of the western world where pretty white princesses are put on a much higher pedestal than their POC (who are also pretty and in most cases much more fleshed out, interesting, individualized women) counterparts. It's something that starts in us as children, as the video shows, and doesn't really leave us as adults, but most people would NEVER admit to being racist like that. We are though. I am, you are, we all are. You don't like to hear it, but it's true.

This is why little girls who are black or First Nations or Asian will still gravitate to the pretty blondes or redheads with pale skin instead of the princesses who look like them. Because someone who looks like Tiana is "bad" while someone who looks like Aurora is "good". Not going to lie, I know these princesses have their fans here, but the feminist in me DIES A LITTLE INSIDE every time someone says their favourite princess is Snow White or Ariel or freaking Aurora (who has only 18 lines of dialogue in her entire movie and doesn't even speak a word after the fairies reveal to Rose that she's actually Princess Aurora). They are all TERRIBLE role models for little girls (Sleeping Beauty itself is actually pretty strongly feminist but only because of the three Good Fairies), with two spending most of their films unconscious only to be saved by the unconsensual sexual advances of men and the other giving up her most special gift for a man SHE'S NEVER EVEN MET after she becomes creepily obsessed with him. Yet these women end up being more beloved than a woman who stops a potential war and unites two divided people, a woman who works her *** off to achieve her dreams of opening her own restaurant at a time when it was unthinkable that ANY women could be a business owner, let a lone a WOC, and a woman who SAVES HER WHOLE FREAKING COUNTRY.

There's a lot wrong with that.

I want Tiana/Facilier in the next set, if they make another set like this, not just for racial diversity (of which this first set has NONE) but mostly because Tiana is an amazing character who is strong and gorgeous and Facilier is such a cool looking villain who would make an AMAZING doll (they would have to make a new body sculpt for male dolls though as the man is stick thin), but think of how cool his costume would be? It would be based on the scene where he briefly turns Tiana back into a human and she's in that white gown with the feather in her hair and has that fluffy boa/wrap thing. Like the gown her singing doll from last year was wearing only in LE quality. Ahh, just picturing it makes me want that set so bad. And I guess they passed on Jasmine/Jafar since they're getting 17" this year but I would also like to see them in next year's set because repeating dolls sure as hell didn't stop the double coronation/snow queen Elsas from existing, and her "designer" gowns aren't even designer at all, they're literally just smaller versions her 17" dolls wear!

Can we get back on topic now....this conversation always crops up every couple of weeks and everyone has their own opinion but it's not for this thread. If someone wants to create a thread to discuss just that then please feel free to do so.

Matthewlondon - personally I'll be going for Anna/Kristoff & Elsa/Hans only because I'm probably in the minority here but I mostly just collect the designer dolls. That being said I'm not overly impressed with Ariel so far and seein as I have the original designer I think she is one of the best.

Well for me Aurora is my favourite disney character EVER and even though she has limited dialogue I will always be inclined to get her merchandise as I love pink, blonde girly things so the Aurora merchandise is always the nicest in my mind, her pink LE doll is my favourite doll to date. I just think a character like Pocahontas is boring to look at, she may be a better role model and she is pretty but the outfit is boring. I don't buy merchandise just because a character is a role model and I don't care about the colour of the skin but the White promcess's have the nicer outfits and the WOW factor. The princess and the frog is the worst princess movie to me and she spends most of her time as a frog!

I really think race has nothing to do with how poor these sell, and I don't think its Disneys fault either, they market what sells at the end of the day! I think it's more to do with the princess and the frog is just not a popular or very good film( it has its fans but in general it doesn't seem popular) and pocahontas wasn't a critical hit. Elsa, Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel, Rapunzel and Belle just make better dolls..

Yeah I agree this topic does always come up, to get back on topic I really want to see the back of the Anna/Kristoff set. I wonder what details are on the Cape/cloak? And why doesn't Kristoff have his crown on like Anna does:/

It's strange because on the promo pics he has his hat on but he doesn't have it on it in the box. Maybe it made him too tall? I found that with my fairytale Aladdin & Jasmine - his feathers are too tall and they bend over.

Yeah I noticed in the promo and art work he has it, but the boxed picture he doesn't have it. I wonder if it's in the box somewhere? Also just watched that scene again and Anna should have her cloak under the green Cape thing the trolls gave her but on the doll she doesn't have it:( I think it's a cute set regardless and have decided to try for it. I want to get a Olaf or a troll that's in scale to display with them!

Aww, Snow White is my favorite princess. I don't want to make anybody mad, but Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, and Ariel are my favorite princesses. I accept that they have flaws, but as a kid, I knew when the prince kissed Snow White, it was a kiss goodbye. At a young age I knew that the prince was sad thinking she was dead, so when he kissed her it was like a farewell kiss, so to speak. Snow White isn't that naive and stupid many feminists claim. Snow White basically takes charge of the whole cottage, and won't even allow the dwarfs to eat anything until they wash their hands, and one more thing, you can see the hesitation in her face when she is offered the apple. I grew up with these princesses when I was little, and I enjoyed their films more than I did Pocahontas(which I saw a lot). I can identify with these princesses because I'm a shy person, and I guess more passive; I identify with them more because they show how being nice to people, and remaining optimistic can help in the long run. As with Ariel, I have a hidden spunk to my side that doesn't really show in my personality, but it's there in my mentality. I like all of the princesses, but these 4 are close personal favorites. Sorry for the rant.

I love the le Aurora too! She was my first 17in le doll! Even though Aurora doesn't have much screen time, I never really noticed it since her screen time is more spaced out.

Also, Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora have been around a LOT longer than any of the other princesses. When I was a kid, these were the only "princess" movies that existed. So, those original three Disney princesses will always have a special place in my heart that others characters will never be able to touch just for that reason alone. I love the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, etc., but they didn't come around until I was a preteen. I agree that the earlier movies do not have the same strong characters and story lines that modern movies have, but they were made in a completely different time period. Nostalgia plays a huge factor in what people have a fondness for and what they purchase, especially from a company like Disney.

I can't speak for what children today gravitate towards, but I would guess this might be a factor in what tends to be popular in LE merchandise, which is mainly purchased by and for adults.

For me, when I used to live in an apartment when I was younger, one of the first movies I remember watching was Snow White, and the part I remember was being scared during the forest scene, then hiding behind a pillow.lol. One of the reasons why it's one of my favorite movies/princesses. Although both Cinderella movies are a close second!

This is by far one of my favorite posts on the racial topic of the Disney Princess. It's an epic response, and a very reasonable and logical point.

Please note, all obscenities have been blurred out, so it's essentially censored.

http://toprightnews.com/when-woman-...ite-princesses-this-man-has-an-epic-response/

I think this also answers the topic of feminism, as well. Keep in mind what time period each of these stories are from. Many of the early tales came from fairy tales written during time periods when women didn't have the same rights they enjoy today. Furthermore, lately Disney has been acknowledging this change in society and adjusting their memories accordingly (i.e. Rapunzel and Anna).

Now, getting back on topic, when it comes to the Anna and Kristoff set, it could be that we're getting pics of the prototypes. And, if not, then Kristoff's crown and Anna's cape could be present, just not visible.

I think Tiana has a super cute design but I just found the movie quite blah, Facilier is creepy and the songs were just lacking that POW/Broadway catchy style that the rest have...

I'm interested for the next set in case we get Meg, people ask for her all the time. Anna and Kristoff I think will sell faster than Ariel/Ursula because Frozen/scalpers

I'm interested to see if we get Meg now too; since she got a Sketchbook ornament this year it could mean that Disney is finally starting to consider her more when they make new products! :) And Hades/Meg was one of the GREATEST hero vs. villain match-ups in the movies.

A Meg and Hades set is literally my ultimate LE dream, along with 17 inch Hercules and Meg. They would all be stunning dolls, and I am sure they would popular. We can only hope!

So when is the merchandise for this line being released? I don't collect the dolls but I want some of the mugs and journals plus hopefully get the lithographs!

I talked to my store today, they said everything should be in store by September 25th for the first doll release, they might get it as early as the 14th like Story said. I can't wait! That Hans and Elsa bag will be mine!

Hmmm out of these announced I like the most Hook&Pan, than Snow&Hag and the rest is blaah...I mean c'mon...that Ursula is way smaller than Ariel...but Ariel looks good so maybe...just maybe.
What I would like to have is Cruella with few puppies-now that would be a set!!! Also Mal&Aurora and Jafar&Jasmine. Meg and Hades ok....
