Heroes & villains collection first look
I mean.... Disney skipping out on the black princess doll... This would cause a lot of uproar. But then again. They can use data of past doll releases to justify that.
Disney skips out on ALL the princesses of color, not just Tiana. It would have been a perfect year to release a Jasmine/Jafar set with the designer line but they didn't. You cannot tell me it wouldn't sell because Jasmine/Aladdin were the first set to sell out in 3 days 2 years ago. The 17" Jasmine sold out in 3 days, which is good for those dolls. Only the dolls with the Frozen craze sold out in minutes. The rest sat around for weeks and months. Some even went on sale. The original Jasmine designer doll sold out as well. Jasmine merchandise sells and they make none of it. They keep making merch for their white characters but ignoring their characters of color. It's ridiculous.

Honestly I feel the reason they skipped jafar/jasmine in the fairytale designers is because we're already getting a jafar and got a slave jasmine, it's LE overkill. Kind of like the Sleeping beauty one that got 4 Les and a couple set. I just thought it was too much for one year.

Only the dolls with the Frozen craze sold out in minutes. The rest sat around for weeks and months. Some even went on sale.

Not true. The 17inch dolls released for Sleepy Beauty sold out fast, though even I'll admit a lot of them probably went to scalpers who expected them to be as big as the Frozen dolls. Don't know if this was also the case for the Designer Fairytale releases of Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, or Sleeping Beauty, though. I know the latter two sold out fast on line, but I'm not sure about the former two. And I know that all four of those sets were extremely popular in my store and that they typically battle it out with Frozen as far as regular merchandise in my area.

As for the expectation of the next set, I'd like to say Moana will be included, but there's just no guarantee of how Disney's going to handle that merchandise. I think it can go either way, really.

I have to say, I'm greedy. I really want more than 5 sets. In addition to the sets already mentioned. I also want another Frozen set (don't shoot me), coronation Anna and Hans. I know a lot of people are sick of Frozen dolls and we've now already had a Hans doll, but I missed out on coronation Anna and she would sell well. I'd still pick Alice and the Queen over that set, but again, I want more than 5 more sets. They kind of threw things out sync with the Peter Pan set and adding Frozen to the line up. Not that I'm complaining at all. I like that they are mixing things up. I just want them to keep mixing things up and I want more than 5 more sets. I don't think they will, but still it's fun to think about. We even have a new princess coming out next year, Moana. I can't see them adding her right away unless as part of the promotions, but maybe if the movie does well, and they continue the series past 5 more sets, she could be added. I doubt it and from what I've seen of the promos there's no "pretty dress." That seems to be a huge part of what makes a Disney princess do well in the doll world. IDK... there are so many possibilities if they think outside of the norm.

A coronation Anna & Hans set would be a great idea! I really dont mind if they would make any more Frozen set because I just love Frozen so much. Also I want them to make a LE Alice set. The LE500 Alice really looks perfect but I can't afford it.

Sleeping Beauty was still in the Frozen craze. If the Frozen dolls didn't sell like hot cakes for a year in a half, I doubt Sleeping Beauty would have sold out fast. Also only Maleficent, Pink Aurora, and Blue Aurora sold out fast. Phillip was online for a few days before he finally old out. Belle/Beast sold out within the morning they were put online. Ariel/Eric was the only set in the first designer collection that sold out within the hour. Cinderella/Charming and Phillip/Briar Rose were the only sets from last years set that sold out within the morning. I think both of them stuck around for a couple hours but I don't remember. I know they didn't last long.

I seriously doubt Moana will be in the designer line for 2016 since her movie wouldn't be released until a month or so after the dolls would be released. She will get a 17" doll but I wouldn't expect to see her in the designer line unless Moana does incredibly well. We still don't have a designer Merida and she was a popular princess when her film was released. She still is a rather popular princess.

Oh my ... Well I feel bad for anybody who bought those dolls when we first saw the "leaked photos". But what a shame they were stolen from Disney themselves. You would think they have a better security system when they're doing their "bag checks" lol.

For the next wave of designers heroes vs. villains, I really hope they do Jasmine/Jafar. Makes sense they didn't do them in this set with Aladdin's rerelease, the 4 limited edition dolls we got, & the amazing merchandise we got; it would've been overwhelming. I'm hoping they have some sort of very intricate design on Jasmine's slave outfit. Though I haven't seen anyone's post (or I probably missed it) about a different scene where Jasmine isn't wearing her slave outfit. Remember, there different times that Jasmine had encounters with Jafar. Especially the scene were Jafars reveals to Jasmine who Prince Ali really was. Which I love seeing Jasmine in her lavender outfit & would be epic to see!

But of course I know a lot of people were dying to have a Jasmine in red (including myself) & to see it a D23 exclusive was a disappointment. So based off of that, hopefully we get to have a Jasmine/Jafar in the next set & in her beautiful red slave outfit!

Wow. It's funny because when these showed up on ebay, a few of us were saying on here that whoever it was selling these could get into big trouble. Disney is not a company to play around with. They have always prosecuted anyone that messes with their properties. They've even been known to go after Etsy sellers who sell custom Disney art. I would not be surprised if whoever is behind this ends up in jail. Yikes!

Jasmine is on a completely different level.
Mulan, Pocahontas, and Tiana are always the left overs that go on clearance and sale. No body buys their merchandise and people who complain about the lack of diversity in Disney's product lines are never there when Disney actually makes them. You cannot in good conscience tell me that these 3 characters sell well, because they don't and Disney has concrete proof that they don't sell well.

Jasmine is a special character because she is part of the big four (Mermaid, Beauty, Aladdin, Lion King) and a lot of people grew up watching her movie and liking it. However, not that many people buy the merchandise. She sells, but not as well as Ariel, Cinderella, and especially Elsa.
Disney makes Jasmine merchandise, but it DOES NOT sell! I was just at my local Disney Store and the jasmine section looks untouched while all the other princesses have ravaged sections. I am sorry, but her merchandise is just not that popular.

Disney skipped out on Jasmine on this year's designer line, but that doesn't mean that they will not release her. i agree with keatalex that Disney might be pushing it back to give people a break..

I am getting sick and tired of hearing people accuse Disney of discriminating against ethnic princesses. They are a business. What doesn't sell doesn't get made. Ethnic princesses don't sell, so why should Disney spend time and money making their merchandise? Disney is content with having costumes, classic dolls, and Animators' dolls. That's it. That's what sells. LE items don't sell. So stop complaining because it's not their fault. >_>

It is unfortunate that none of those heroines (Mulan, Pocahontas, Jas) have beautiful gowns. That is a real factor. Many kids and doll collectors like the poofy, ornate dresses. It's part of the dream of luxurious happiness that Disney princesses are meant to conjure up. Despite the fact that their movies don't fit well with dolls in poofy dresses, Disney could have made their classic dolls more appealing than they did. Classic Jasmine is just meh. Pocahantas and her fabric necklace and no shoes....she looks like a cave lady like that, though I think her face is pretty. Mulan's kimono is soooooo plan, and her doll's face is really oval and not true to the animation. I bought Lonnie in her kimono from the Descendants instead. Lonnie looks great! Great hair, great accessories, GREAT kimono. As a character, Mulan has 3000% the personality of Lonnie, but in dolls? womp womp.

I hope the Pocahantas and Mulan classic dolls do go on clearance at my store. They are great characters even if their dolls lack a lot. I don't even buy them at the periodic sales (2 for whatever the price is now) because it's still too much... but clearance would work. All I've seen for clearance though is old Li Shang (rooted hair! yay!) and old Beast (with the prince inside, yay again!) I bought both in an instant. They were great deals at clearance price. No princesses at all, though.

Dang...when I messaged the guy on eBay asking how he came across them (wasn't expecting much of an answer) he said, "Lets just say I happened to be in the right place at the right time". Yeah...no kidding. I'm glad he is being tracked down.

On a side note, I wonder what that Maleficent prototype looked like?

I hope the buyers can be refund (by Paypal (?)) because it is not their fault if they buy something stolen. But I am quite glad that the seller is getting into trouble.

I take some pictures of my D23 exclusive Elsa & Hans.

Agree with this 100% one of he biggest reasons is because how many times can you put the dolls in the same outfits? I'm also getting tired of the discriminating talk. As lordofanime points out if people do not buy the characters why would Disney spend time and effort into producing more LE dolls of them.

That being said I think from a fairness point of view we should still get the 17" LE Mulan & Pocahontas dolls just a smaller edition size.

I'm in the UK and my local store still had all the sleeping beauty LE dolls for at least 3-4 weeks after they were released. Same as the designer couples - I was in two minds about picking up Cinderella but when I saw her I couldn't leave her there.

So beautiful!

Tiana was the last doll standing in several DS when I visited last year, so if they don't make her in the Heroes/Villains set it would have nothing to do with the fact she is black but that she didn't sell out (or well)

She is a gorgeous doll and I love her design but I went for my faves and settled for her classic doll (which is still lovely)

So I'm hoping to get FF anna and Elsa as well as the desigmer Elsa/Hans. If you were getting those three and could get one more doll, which would you choose Ariel/Ursula designer set or Anna/Kristoff?

Absolutely Anna&Kristoff. I dont like Ariel's outfit of this year but I do like the first DFDC Ariel set.

It's a hard choice. I think if I had to pick I'd go with Anna/Kristoff. Without knowing more about your doll collection, I think it'll display better with the other dolls you mention. Also, I'm not crazy about the Ariel outfit and it seems a lot of people agree, so maybe if you want to add it later it will be the easier set to get after market. I personally still plan on getting Ariel/Ursula, but I don't think it's the best representation. I think it boils down to what you prefer to collect and what you already have in your collection. I have Designer Princess Ariel, 17" Ariel, and the Fairy Tale Designer Ariel/Eric, so it'd be easier for me to pass up the Ariel/Ursula since I already have collector editions and have some complaints about the new Ariel. The top is a little wonky. If I didn't have any collectible Ariel dolls I might see things differently. I have the other collectible Anna dolls (except for coronation Anna), but I like the new set and still want it. I really don't have any complaints about it like I do with Ariel/Ursula.

I'm just undecided because I prefer Ariel as a character to Anna and I will be getting FF Anna so should I get Ariel as I don't have a Ariel doll yet and I much prefer this Ariel to her previous designer dolls, I love the sequinned tail a million times more than the hidious tail the 17inch doll got and this Ariel finally has red lips and rounded eyebrows. But at the same time the Anna designer set will fit in more with my collection. It's just with the image we have so far of the Anna/Kristoff set it kinda looks boring and not very detailed? Wereas everyone I have showed the Ariel set to, love it!

Sounds like you prefer Ariel, but then if she will be easier to get later, maybe better to go for the one you know will sell out and get sharked more...?

Just because the Tiana, Pocahontas, Jasmine, and Mulan merchandise does not sell in your store does not mean it doesn't sell in all other stores. Jasmine merchandise sells well when it is released. Jasmine merchandise sells very well in my store. Heck, the Aladdin merchandise is being picked over now that is finally released. Frozen merchandise is sitting in the sales section. Same with merchandise for Ariel and Rapunzel. Naveen was the only doll sitting in the sales section of my disney store that was not a white doll. The princes never sell as well as the princesses, so I'll give you that one. Flynn Rider is in the sales section too and Tangled is more popular than Princess and the Frog. In my store, you are lucky if you find a Mulan, Pocahontas, or Tiana doll. They don't have many and when they are there, they sell out fast. Tiana especially. People ask for Tiana merchandise and they are there when new Tiana merchandise is released. Tiana merchandise has sold incredibly well at Hottopic, for example. People had to petition for it and it sells when they get it. Frozen merchandise is more likely to go on sale at hottopic than Tiana merchandise.

I'm sorry but not everyone who loves Tiana, Mulan, Pocahontas, and Jasmine can afford the LE merchandise. I know a lot of fans of Tiana, Pocahontas, and Mulan had to skip out on the dolls last year because they were out of their price range. Some were able to get them only after they went on sale. However, the mugs and journals for last years collection sold out incredibly quickly. I would have killed for the Pocahontas/Smith doll but $120 for dolls was out of my price range. I may have to cancel my order of the LE Jasmine (I got her through the DS) because I don't think I'll have the money for her when October rolls around. The Art of Jasmine merchandise is selling just as well as the Art of Ariel merchandise. The Art of Ariel merchandise was on the website until about Christmas 2 years ago.

If you give adults affordable Jasmine, Tiana, Mulan, and Pocahontas merchandise it sells well. Also, I cannot stress this enough Disney does NOT market their princesses of color. I was seeing commercials for the rerelease of both Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid on tv this time the past 2 years when their movies were rereleased. I've yet to see anything for Aladdin besides a few emails from the disney movie rewards and disney movie club. They don't market their princesses of color at all. Princess and the Frog had crap marketing when it was released and has NO marketing today. The same is not true for the white princesses. Frozen was shoved in everyones throats. Big Hero 6 did better than Frozen and there was no real marketing or merchandise for that. I can tell you it was because the lead of the movie was not two white princesses. BH6 was overshadowed by Frozen. Pocahontas and Mulan did well when they came out because like the other films from the late 80s and 90s, they were shoved down your throat and marketed incredibly well. When Disney went on to their new films, they got pushed to the side. Disney could marketed these characters but they chose not to. The only exception to that was Aladdin and even by 2000 the marketing for Aladdin was gone. Disney has pretty much ignored that movie for the last 15 years.

Frozen was shoved in everyones throats. Big Hero 6 did better than Frozen and there was no real marketing or merchandise for that. I can tell you it was because the lead of the movie was not two white princesses. BH6 was overshadowed by Frozen.

Sorry, but that is incorrect. Big Hero 6 did not do better than Frozen. Frozen is one of the top five highest-grossing films (ALL films, not just animation) ever made. Big Hero 6 made $658 million in the box office worldwide; Frozen made $1.274 BILLION.

Disney is inundating us with Frozen merchandise now, but when the movie first came out, Disney didn’t know what hit 'em and there was not enough merchandise for the people who were demanding it, which was why everything Frozen was being sold for so much money on eBay. A few months after the movie came out, people were very angrily complaining on the Disney Store Facebook page that there was not enough Frozen merchandise. If people wanted Big Hero 6 merchandise as much as they wanted Frozen, they would have protested as much as they did over the lack of Frozen merch, and Disney would have met the demand.

Disney didn't start shoving Frozen down our throats until people started demanding it. The movie did not receive any more marketing pre-release than Big Hero 6 did. Most people didn't even know what Frozen was about until the film was released.

Frozen is a worldwide phenomenon that will have a huge lasting impact on our popular culture. Big Hero 6 is a great movie, but it does not even come close to what Frozen did.
