Hey guys,

(I found this gif funny lol)

This is a fairly broad question that I need help answering so everyone's answer will help me since there isn't a definite answer to this question. Okay:

1) I know everyone collects a lot of different pins, how do you decide which pins to put on lanyards, in shadowboxes, on pin boards, in pin books, bags, etc.

2) Do you keep most of your pins on boards or in books/bags and then move them onto a lanyard the day before you want to wear it or do you always keep certain pins on a lanyard and never take them off?

3) If you do always keep pins on a lanyard, how do you store that lanyard when traveling since you aren't ALWAYS wearing that lanyard with the pins on it at the airport, hotel, rides, etc.? Do you wrap the lanyard with cloth so the pins won't hit each other?

4) If you always keep your pins on boards or in frames, how do you transport them for trading events?

4) When you frame a set, do you ever bring the whole frame to the pin tables since taking apart the frame would be a hassle to get the pins off?

Thanks for helping me and any answers at all could help me since I'm currently trying to figure out how I want to carry my pins (pin book, pin bag, multiple lanyards, etc.).

I keep all of my pins either on my main board, or on themed displays. I plan to have all of my main collections on their own displays someday, and my board to be for miscellaneous pins I just really enjoy. For me, I like my pins to have specific homes they are designated to. I also really enjoy making said displays, even if they aren't all that great! I just think its fun!

Ah, that gave me a thought for another question. I was considering making frames for most of my sets (I already have 2 sets I am in the process of framing) plus a pin board, but I don't have room for all those boards and then I thought "how do you take the pins for trading event?" So that's my other question

I keep all my Nightmare Before Christmas pins on a lanyard because I wear them at Disneyland. All my other pins are in a pin book and I am thinking about framing them, but I am waiting until each of my collections have a good amount of pins.

I have corkboards for my main collections. I have different holiday lanyards to wear to Disneyland that I leave the pins on. I have a pin bag with nicer traders in it. I have a clear, zippered bag that I put plain ole' traders in. I basically have pins everywhere!

lol okay, thanks for the answers so far guys ^_^ The reason I asked the question in the first place is because I have so many pins I want to frame and put on lanyards, that by the time I'm done with all those frames, boards, and lanyards, there will nearly no pins I need to put in a book except a few traders, so I'm trying to decide what to do...what to do indeed xP

The only pins I frame are ones I'm keeping. There would be no need to bring them to events, since I wouldn't be trading them. If you want to show them off...I'd take some pics and make a small album to show off.

Pins that I have on corkboards are sets I'm still working on. they also aren't going to be traded, so no need to take them anywhere.

I keep my traders in a book. Easy to transport. (Like I go anywhere with them! LOL)

If I had lanyards to show off collections, I would keep them on the lanyards, period. I would wrap them in clothes if I were traveling and taking multiple ones with me.

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much Nettlejeanne, that makes it really clear. My only fear now is if I end up with the pins I want, I won't have any traders to put in a trader book lol xD I do have a few so at this rate I might just get a fairly big one (for future reference) but not a humongous one and then all the ones I want to keep (which are a lot) I'll just keep at home ^_^

Started with a cork board, had to buy books, had to buy Rubbermaid bin for books.

So you don't keep any pins on a lanyard or anything? Is there a reason why? Do pins get easily lost on lanyards? I figured I was going to buy a lanyard and then these backings:

Since I heard they were really good. Or do they still not work well? And then do the pins scratch themselves easily or something?

I have a Wreck It ralph lanyard and a Star Tours lanyard. I keep a few traders I'm a ziplock bag for easy access too.

Trading pins - the regular rack ones and those without cards go into CD cases (you can get these at the $1 store but maybe you have some leftover ones) - the cloth ones that you could put 25+ CDs in when you were in the car?

ones with backs go in baseball card holders and then into binders

PODMs go into cases

jumbos go into photo card holders (sleeves) into large binders

These are all the trading ones.

Keepers

PODMs go in cases
pins go into trading books (not kept on cards, but cards are kept meticulously labeled)

For the pins you guys bring to trade events, would you recommend a bag or a book? I don't have many traders (what you see on my Pinpics account is what I got) so a large pin bag would be overkill, but a medium one (which I had) runs out of room way too fast...if I had a book I figured I could always just carry it in a bag and bring around anything else I wanted to (not just pins) so I'm just mulling over what to do ^_^

For my main Mulan collection, I have them all in my shadowbox. I have yet to purchase a shadowbox for my Agent P/Perry the Platypus pins, but they are on a small pin board. I do have all the nerd pins in a shadowbox and my Pin Trading Knights (Recent Versions) and the Disney Princess Crests in another shadowbox. I have some of my other collections on a big pin board in my room. I only wear a lanyard with pins I am willing to trade with CMs. When it comes to traders, I have my small pin bag that I bring around. If you didn't want to use a pin bag, maybe use a binder? You can use trading card sleeves and put your pins inside of them. You can add extra cushion if you need it. That way, you can easily put it inside your bag/purse/backpack, etc.

Ah okay, thanks guys, I think I'm going to end up wearing a lanyard with keepers or traders (depends on the day) and then all my other traders I'll keep in a pin bag, IDK what size to get though. If you have a large pin bag, does it get in the way of getting on all the rides at both WDW and DLR? All of them I mean, not just the easy ones...

I think i read that you have a trader bag but it is too small. What size is it?

I had too but I sold one. The one I currently have is really small, it's the size of the smallest ones at WDW and DLR that is just like a hip bag, I think about 3 pages where you can pin on both sides and it has a sheet in between each page so the pins won't scratch

PMing you

I have most of my collection on various boards/in shadowboxes/in frames. I try to keep characters/movies together with each other and then my attraction and park pins together. Things that I have in shadow boxes are probably not leaving the shadow boxes like my keeper PODMs and such. Stuff on cork boards is easy enough to transfer to a lanyard so I usually have a trader lanyard and also sometimes I will do a showcase lanyard with keeper pins. It depends on how I feel on a given day, and I don't have too many traders at this point lol. Also with the 2 frames that I have done I took the glass out so the pins are easy to put in/take out.

Thanks for everyone's input. Someone on the forums sent me a pin bag that I definitely am going to use since I love it so I think I'll keep my WiR collection on lanyard and for the time being, all other pins in that pin bag (minus the ones that I'm framing which include 2 sets at the moment) ^_^

Thanks everyone for your input. A great member of the forums sent me a pin bag that I will DEFINITELY be using so I plan to keep my WiR pins on a lanyard I'm gonna get soon and then I'll keep all the other pins in that bag (minus the framed sets which I only have 2 right now). ^_^
