I know yesterday was terrible.

Today things seem to be snappy, but this "upgrade" hasnt been working out as well as we'd planned.

I HAVE sourced a new host, and I really hope to have some good news for you guys coming up real soon, while we prepare to switch the site over in the next few weeks. The bad news? Once we start migration to the new dedicated server, site site will be down for a few days :(

On the up side, DPF will be the only site hosted on the server, so performance and speed should be miles ahead of the nightmare we've been in as of late.

from FB:

Hey there, DPF fans! We understand the site has been VERY slow and painful over the last couple of months, but we're happy to announce we've (finally) started the moving process!

The site may be inaccessible for a period of time starting tonight at Midnight (12:00am) PST, during which we will be moving the huge DPF forum database to its new home. Bear with us while we get this situated, and hopefully everything goes as smoothly as planned.

Finally, We'd like to extend a HUGE thank you to GoofyMoe and his regional teams that helped organize a huge DPF fundraiser waaaaay back in April, that made this move possible. Thank you also to all of our members for sticking with us through this painfully slow time.

Cheers!
-The DPF Team

Hi, Is there a problem with logging? When I first log in it kicks me back to the log in link so I have to re log and for example I log in I go to my inbox when I reply to my emails in tells me that I am not log in so I have to log in again to send my emails.Even when I open links in the forum this is happening. I notice this a lot yesterday when I was answering my emails. Can this be taken a look at.

Thanks
Maria

New to the site, I have only had one day where the site wouldn't load. However this site is the slowest to load of all the ones I regularly visit (but worth the wait).

I didn't notice problems before the server change, except when the site was completely down. Now, I'm afraid the browser will time out before I get a thread open.

Posting on threads takes awhile and sometimes gives a message of stay on this page or leave when trying to post... very annoying. Also switching between threads is slow. At least I am no longer get the the error 500s anymore

It's a little slow for me, but not bad (same as before). I just still can't create a new line (when I hit "enter" on my keyboard) when I am posting. I am still writing out on my computer's WordPerfect, copying and posting it on DPF and then kind of cleaning it up.

Hi Hannette, having that problem with private messages and posting directly on the forums!

Could we get an update about the status of the servers. I've been experiencing intermittent connection problems since the move, and now we've all been waiting and refreshing for the last hour. Is this what we can continue to expect, or is there something else going on. About the same time, Google was having its own connectivity issues, so is this recent outage a web backbone type issue, or a server issue?

in this case it may have been a backbone issue, since a few larger sites were also affected to some extent.

however, we do have some intermittent issues with the server itself -- apparently the RAM needs to be upgraded because during peak times and peak days (weekends usually), we max out the memory usage on the server, forcing a reboot -- when this happens, the site is usually unavailable for 2-3 minutes while the server comes back online. It has not yet been a month since the move, so once we are billed for the first month, we'll take a look at our usage logs and decide how to proceed with further server upgrades.
