Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
I'm still back and forth about Belle/Beast. Which means on Oct 1st getting them AND Ursula. Then two weeks later HOPING to get Ariel/Eric. Why so many dolls in October. Waahhhh. With the release of Sleeping Beauty as a Diamond Edition and the Malificent movie next year, do you think we will see some Sleeping Beauty LE dolls, and merch like they did this year with Ariel? *crosses fingers*
Oh yeas, next year is the year of Aurora and Maleficent!
I know they are having the best year ever. Ha ha. The casting and storyline for Malificent looks interesting. We saw dolls when the did OZ so Im sure they will do some for this movie too, and an LE Aurora doll for the Diamond release. And if they do more couples I could see Aurora and Phillip being one so would fit with the timing too. Just like Ariel/Eric are releasing around the same time as the DVD, and LE dolls.Oh yeas, next year is the year of Aurora and Maleficent!
I would LOVE a Prince Phillip doll!! That would be amazing.I've been waiting so long for her, Aurora is my favorite! I would totally buy a Prince Phillip and a Maleficent doll. I don't love Arial's prince or villain enough this year. Though I would buy every one of her sisters in LE form, oh my goodness.
I've never seen Phillip as a generic prince. He is afterall the first Disney prince who was given an actual name and is the only classic prince who does have one. Snow White's and Cinderella's princes have similar physical features whereas Phillip's differ from theirs. Plus he also received character development which the other two did not. You could also consider him and his horse Samson as a precursor to Flynn and Maximus. Also when Phillip and Flynn met Aurora and Rapunzel respectively, they both thought they were peasants, but later on discovered they were princesses.
I really wish someone would leak photos of the LE Frozen dolls already. I'm dying to see them.
Those are fair points and you are entitled to what you think but I just believe that he really does not stand out compared to other Disney characters. To be honest I would get him confused with the current Prince in the Snow White DFTC set. I think that prince looks a lot like Philip. But that is just my opinion and I could be totally wrong as I have been in the past. Who knows Disney could start a trend with the princes like they did with the villains and release one each year as a 'surprise'. Wish they did Eugene and Naveen as well though.
I agree I can't wait to see some frozen pics of LEs I think they would look amazing based on the current doll releases.
The DFDC Prince doll's face and hair color don't really look like the character's. They're supposed to be continuing the DFDC, so it will be interesting to see how Phillip turns out. I agree with Shivatopia. It really depends on personal preference. To me Phillip was the first true prince in that he had a name and his character was developed. The first two didn't have names and weren't in very much of their movies. Even the dwarves (Snow White) and mice (Cinderella) had names and larger roles. I think Phillip stands out as a Disney prince, but not as much as a Disney character overall. But afterall, there are so many Disney characters and the competition is fierce.
by the way is the second set of designer DFTC set confirmed or is that still a rumor? I can see disney definitely considering it because of the demand from consumers but was not sure if this was confirmed or not?
Disney has not officially confirmed it. I have read that a manager had a meeting with higher-ups who told them that they will be doing a second set. Disney does like to try to keep the next collection a mystery until it gets closer to the release, so it will probably be a while before they announce anything officially. I would say that considering the price of the dolls for this collection, the sets have sold rather well especially considering how many people were turned off by the price.
I'm thinking that with the release of Maleficent and Diamona Aurora that we will see what we did with Ariel this year. At least I'm hoping. I see them continuing the DFDC next year and we will see Aurora and Phillip as a couple. Then closer to the movie releases I think we will see some LE dolls of Aurora, Maleficent and Philip, and maybe some minor characters. Similar to what they did with the OZ dolls maybe.I think Prince Philip will be dependent on the popularity of Eric. I always saw Philip and, Snow and Cinderella's princes as generic princes. They all look very similar and have little distinguishing features, as a result they don't stand out much due to their female counterparts out shining them, so even if Eric is popular it may be slim to see another male doll that soon.
I for one definitely think that if Aladdin does get a diamon edition release in 2015 during the expo year we should be seeing two male dolls. Aladdin and Jafar as they are by far more popular than most other male characters with Aladdin probably being the more popular of the princes (in some cases even more popular than Jasmine).
i definitely agree that we should be seeing an LE doll during the Maleficent movie release. Thing is I doubt it will be a Maleficient doll. It may be another character not played by an actor? That way there won't be an Angelia looking doll. Mind you this is the first time Disney has done a male doll so there is a first for everything so they could do an Angelina looking Maleficent. I hope they don't though.
regardless we should be getting two LE dolls during the Sleeping Beauty diamond edition release. We will definitely be getting an Aurora preorder around July and another "surprise" release possibly Maleficient (or if they do Maleficient during the live action movie release then it would probably be Philip). All I can say is that I cannot wait!
BTW the Little mermaid bluray came out here in Australia this week! Only 2 weeks to go before the doll releases! Getting so excited! Haha
Yeah I dont like the rooted hair on the male dolls. I much prefer the sculpted hair. I also dont see all the princes as the same. I think they are very distinctive looking.I agree with NightmareMermaid that Prince Philip is not what I would consider a generic prince. His features are a lot more angular than either Snow White's Prince or Cinderella's Prince Charming, who also don't really look like each other that much. For me, Prince Philip shows at least as much personality in Sleeping Beauty as Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid. It's all a matter of preference, I suppose. In any case, I would like to see more done for the classic Disney Princes. But if they make a LE Prince Philip doll, I hope they fine-tune the rooted hair on Disney male dolls or they shift over to the DFDC doll-style textured sculpted hair.
This is what I was going to say. Aurora didnt have really as much screen time as Phillip did. The movie version was really about his finding her, and the journey he went on, defeating Maleficent, etc. He definitely had more of a storyline than say Prince Charming who we really dont see much of in the movie.I think Prince Phillip is more of the star then even Aurora, he gets a lot of his own scenes and development. The fairy's feud is the main plot (the people are *almost* pawns in a way). I would adore a Phillip doll. The only dolls I wouldn't be into in 17in scale are the fairies. Speaking of similar, they do share some traits with Cinderella's fairy Godmother. I think Disney does re-use elements a fair bit, as many have pointed out Frozen looks similar to Tangled, but I love that. Classic Disney movies did it so it is okay with me. Going crazy waiting for Frozen LE news.
I think they Princes are more popular now because they are making them as dolls, where as in the past they havent done that s much. Looking at the DFDC dolls that have already come out, I think they sold really well. Both were sold out within a week or so. I think thats pretty good given that most people were unsure about buying them. Maybe its not up to the standards as the Designer Princesses who sold out so quickly,, but still not too bad. At least none of them will get marked down or hit the outlets like say uhm....The Lone Ranger dolls. Ha! And we still see OZ dolls everywhere now marked down. So in their eyes these have to be success and worth continuing the line next year with even more popular dolls for collectors like Aurora, Cinderella, etc.Disney has not officially confirmed it. I have read that a manager had a meeting with higher-ups who told them that they will be doing a second set. Disney does like to try to keep the next collection a mystery until it gets closer to the release, so it will probably be a while before they announce anything officially. I'm holding out hope for LE Aurora and Prince Phillip. Some thing just tells me with the release of the two movies that they are going to do something big.A bit off-topic, but with the Designer/DFDC type collections, I actually don't see why an Expo year wouldn't actually be a better time to unveil a less-popular group of characters because the D23 Expo is definitely a hot-spot for hard-core Disney fans who would actually know who those less-popular characters are and would be drawn to buying those items at the Expo and afterward. Sales at the Expo alone would probably be significant, because hard-core Disney fans do crave more merchandise for the less-marketed characters. True, we did see the Designer Villains in a non-Expo year, but we also have read that these collections typically take at least a year to a year-and-a-half to design, develop, manufacture, and market prior to release, so that means that there is a good chance that the Designer Villains had already started to be planned before the Disney Store knew that the Designer Princesses would be so popular. Just food for thought. That said, I would love to see (and get) a D23 Expo exclusive DFDC Aurora and Prince Philip to seal the trend for there being D23 Expo exclusive dolls for the Classic Princesses. But I also would prefer if the DFDC collection does see its second half next year rather than in two years from now.
Back on topic: LE Ursula's lower half is not as impressive as she could have been. Her tentacles seem stubby and that tulle skirt is just random!
